Chapter 289 Li Moyang
Chapter 289: Chapter 289 Li Moyang
"Hainerd, didn’t he come?" Chen Ke shifted the topic, although he also thought it wasn’t wise to go out and stir up trouble, but Pihom definitely had his concerns.
He didn’t think Pihom was blinded by money and opportunity, but rather believed that the mailman’s current situation must be bad, such as his cash reserves, and perhaps the mailman’s financial situation was already unsustainable.
"I had him use his connections in the inside smuggling network of Holy Relics to see if he could find some potential buyers abroad. Holy Relics always sell; it’s just that they’re too hot to handle, and there aren’t many people willing to take them," Pihom shook his head.
Chen Ke also sighed. If Pihom really managed to sell the diamonds abroad, he would almost have no chance of getting his hands on them.
"It seems we have a conclusion, shall we rest for a while?" Hall said.
"Chen Ke, what do you think?" Lucina nudged Chen Ke with her elbow.
"I... I need to go out this afternoon to handle some stuff; let me know after you’ve made up your minds," Chen Ke said, pulling out his phone to check the time, which was getting tight.
"Oh... enough, Chen Ke. It seems like every time I see you, you’re about to go out to handle ’something’... and then you disappear for a week or two before reappearing, and so on and so forth..." Lucina leaned on the table with one hand and rested the other on her hip, frowning.
"Men always have their... secrets, you know... those kinds of... secrets," Priskin whispered.
The atmosphere turned awkward.
"Chen Ke is very busy, so I think you should wait a while before considering those plans." Just then, Hainerd entered the door, wearing his fishery overalls, filling the room with a smell of fish.
Everyone in the room turned toward Hainerd, and Hall pinched his nose.
"I need to talk to Hainerd alone; everyone else, please leave," Pihom reluctantly said, waving at Hainerd before heading to the planning room.
Lucina looked at Hainerd as if seeking an answer, but Hainerd shook his head and brushed past Lucina’s shoulder.
"Do you have time tonight?" Lucina asked Chen Ke.
"I’m not sure," Chen Ke replied.
"Then it’s settled, we’ll have dinner together tonight; I’ll wait for you," Lucina said, sounding non-negotiable.
"I’ll try to come back... I’ll try my best." Chen Ke put his right hand on Lucina’s shoulder, patted it, and then turned and ran out of the safe house.
The number of taxis on the street had decreased, and in 2008, there was no Uber to use; just waiting for a taxi took Chen Ke half an hour, indicating major changes had occurred in the United Federation during this period.
Fortunately, he still managed to find a taxi and arrived at Raffi Road before 4 PM. He didn’t get off at the entrance of Bozi Bar but instead crossed the street from Golden Arthur Sword Hall.
An eye-catching stretch RV parked on the street; in the depressed Opportunity City, it was rare to see such a luxurious vehicle, only possibly seen in the Holy Oak affluent area with some high-end sports cars.
License plate end with 666, no doubt, Chen Ke checked his phone, 3:42 PM. He walked to the side of the vehicle; a bald man in a suit was standing by the door waiting for him.
His pupils were blue, with Spiritual Vision, there were a total of five humanoid outlines inside the RV: one driver, three bodyguards, and another person who must be the one who had made the phone call.
"Please hand over your weapons first," the bald man said.
Chen Ke hesitated for a moment, but still handed over his Type 67 pistol to the bald man.
"A very unusual gun," the bald man examined the gun and seemed to like this customized weapon a lot.
"Don’t damage it," Chen Ke said sternly.
The bald man opened the car door for him, gesturing for him to enter. Chen Ke bent down and crawled into the vehicle, the door closing with a bang.
The cabin was spacious; this was Chen Ke’s first time in an RV. On his right and slightly to his left sat two bodyguards, and across from him sat an Asian man in a black suit, a small pull-out panel separating him from Chen Ke, with a bottle of wine on it.
The man looked to be in his 30s, his hairstyle meticulous and slicked with hair gel, shining black.
"I hope you won’t be too uptight," the man laughed, holding a small cup and filling it with alcohol before handing it to Chen Ke.
Chen Ke took the drink, not fearing any poison, and finished it with his head tilted back before placing the cup on a small tray.
"Um... I meant to say... that’s not how you drink wine... you should sip, not gulp," the man said.
"Let’s get straight to the point. Who are you?" Chen Ke asked.
"My name is Li Moyang. I’m from the Fei Huang Republic and the president of Wuan Heavy Industry. You aren’t a Fei Huang person, are you? You were born in the United Federation as an Asian, right?" Li Moyang said.
Chen Ke had never heard of Wuan Heavy Industry, but industrial firms weren’t small workshops, and it wasn’t easy for someone in their 30s to become a president... This guy must be a rich second-generation heir.
"You’re the president of an industrial conglomerate? I thought you were in the spiritual power industry," Chen Ke said.
"I indeed am, but only in the United Federation. The Fei Huang Republic has no spiritual power industry; personal development of spiritual energy is illegal there," Li Moyang smiled.
"That sounds reasonable... So, you’re aware that an Asian doing business in a white man’s country will definitely face exclusion and targeting," Chen Ke said.
"Exactly, that’s the game of capitalism, jumping from one circle to another, facing exclusion is nothing out of the ordinary," Li Moyang casually remarked.
"So, the whole purpose of this event is just to help you eliminate business rivals?" Chen Ke sighed.
Li Moyang sipped on his wine, closed his eyes as if savoring the sweetness of the liquor, but Chen Ke noticed Li Moyang was deep in thought.
"Of course not... Chen Ke. Things are more complicated than you think," Li Moyang shook his head.
"Then tell me. Now," Chen Ke demanded.
"I trust your ability, but I’m not ready to disclose everything to you. I’m giving you the opportunity to work for me, and you need to prove that you’re worthy of this information," Li Moyang said.
"This isn’t what we agreed on over the phone," Chen Ke spoke sternly.
"You have to understand, Chen Ke, you’re the first assassin to sit across from me," Li Moyang said coldly.
"You mean, I should feel fucking honored?" Chen Ke laughed.
"When speaking to Mr. Li, watch your language," the bodyguard sitting to the right of Chen Ke threatened.
"And if I don’t?" Chen Ke asked.
"I’ll twist your arms off and stuff them below, then pull your intestines out through your belly button and feed them directly to your mouth," the bodyguard growled intensely, his eyes emitting a purple glow, clearly a spiritual ability user.
"+40 minutes"
"+40 minutes"
"+40 minutes"
...
Chen Ke nearly burst out laughing.
"Relax, gentlemen, Mr. Chen Ke has seen extravagant situations; your tactics won’t scare him," Li Moyang said.
The bodyguard, heeding his boss’s words, retracted his murderous intent.
"You seem to know a lot about me; what all do you know?" Chen Ke asked.
"I forgive your earlier disrespect because I’m aware of your capabilities. Chen Ke, do you really think the trouble you’ve caused these past few weeks hasn’t caught anyone’s eye...? Hmm?" Li Moyang smiled.
