Chapter 280: Chapter 280: Turn-Based Combat
"Fuck! Fuck!" Chen Ke felt his hair stand on end from that chilling gaze and quickly retracted his hand.
Chen Ke wasn’t unprepared for the fact that An Helei was imprisoned here, but he had imagined that, like Faralis, she at least maintained a complete human form, not this inhuman horror he saw before him.
It was impossible to determine whether the madwoman was dead or alive; when Chen Ke uncovered her hair, she came completely to life, her body contorting nonstop, trying to break free from her bonds.
But with several iron nails piercing through her body, the idea of her freeing herself from these restraints was pure fantasy. The chains, stirred by An Helei’s struggles, clanged chaotically, echoing throughout the modestly sized stone chamber.
"What on earth does extinguishing the flame mean...?" Chen Ke stepped back slightly, unsure of what to do next.
Should he use the great sword to cleave her from head to toe? Or something else? Chen Ke had no idea, but given An Helei’s frenzied struggles, just waiting seemed futile.
"Clang!"
With a powerful effort, An Helei managed to tear down the heavy iron yoke and smashed it on the ground.
She swung the yoke, smashing it at the chains wrapped around the frame on the sides of the iron rack, freeing her feet with a single blow, and then she crawled on the ground, head raised high, her terrifying visage emerging from the black hair.
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!"
"-10 minutes"
"-10 minutes"
"-10 minutes"
"-10 minutes"
"-10 minutes"
...
Chen Ke’s head throbbed painfully; the woman’s screams carried an attribute of mental attack, which Chen Ke could resist with his lifespan, but the excruciating headache was inescapable.
Fortunately, An Helei didn’t continue her screams; it was more like a show of force, what came next was her real intent.
She crawled back and forth on the ground as if she were pacing, those sinister eyes fixed on Chen Ke, her behavior akin to that of a dog.
The yoke binding her hands dragged back and forth on the floor, producing an ominous noise, especially unsettling in the silence of the space.
"If I had known it would be like this... I should have cleaved you the moment I came in," Chen Ke sighed, the blue luminescence of his Moonlight Greatsword intensifying as if it was fully charged.
In this stone chamber, the only sources of light, besides the faint white light at the entrance, were the glow from Chen Ke’s Moonlight Greatsword.
"+100 hours"
"+100 hours"
"+100 hours"
"+100 hours"
"+100 hours"
...
Here it comes! Chen Ke bent his knees, shield up in front of him, and instantly activated Spiritual Vision, the red, dog-like shadow charging towards him.
As it neared Chen Ke, it reared up, swinging the heavy shackles on its wrists, aiming a ferocious blow toward Chen Ke’s head.
Chen Ke braced his left arm with his shield, only to feel his whole left side go numb from the vibration. Despite his body being weighed down by his armor, he was knocked off balance, staggering several steps to the right.
But Chen Ke didn’t panic. He had mentally prepared himself to withstand a great impact, so as he stumbled, he quickly leveraged the momentum to spin around, completing a turn to the right and swinging his Moonlight Greatsword horizontally behind him.
He heard a "duang" sound and indeed felt parts of the blade strike something.
When Chen Ke turned around, he saw a red outline thrown into the air, crashing to the ground and rolling several times before coming to a stop.
"Just this... and it’s supposed to last 100 hours?" Chen Ke scoffed disdainfully.
At least to this point, the toughest monster he’d encountered was probably a contract demon. That was the only one that put him on a one-second regeneration cycle for each year of his life.
Next were the Pope Mazville and that H.C.P. tin can. Mazville lost his head and became a Clan member, but that situation didn’t count.
That tin can had speed far beyond that of ordinary people and advanced weapons and equipment. It made perfect sense that it would put immense pressure on Chen Ke.
But the presence before him had once been human—a Queen, now devoid of human traits. Chen Ke could hardly believe that she could bring 100 hours of murderous pressure on him.
However, as of now, the Life Countdown had never made a mistake in quantifying the threat of an enemy.
Chen Ke took a deep breath and didn’t dare take her lightly. The Queen had just been slashed up close by his Moonlight Greatsword and been thrown away, indicating she wasn’t so simple.
Chen Ke considered himself strong and robust. The spin and counterattack he had performed were executed with deadly intent, aided by the Moonlight Greatsword’s magic damage attribute and its sheer weight. Even in An Helei’s current state, being bisected would have been normal.
But that hadn’t happened.
Chen Ke inspected An Helei, unable to find any trace of the sword wound. The Life Countdown couldn’t be wrong, so Chen Ke’s momentary scorn quickly dissipated.
He approached An Helei, this time opting for a vertical slash, extending his arm fully and using the length advantage of the Moonlight Greatsword, aiming at An Helei’s head.
There was a sharp "snap" as the sword tip struck the stone ground, sparking blue flames.
An Helei, like an unleashing wild dog, darted to Chen Ke’s right.
Chen Ke could see her trajectory. In the past, he might have lifted his sword, but this time he didn’t. Instead, he swept the sword horizontally across the ground, slashing diagonally towards An Helei.
An Helei leapt, charging towards the glow of Chen Ke’s sword, her body grazing the blade, and pounced directly at Chen Ke’s face.
Staring at An Helei’s face through the slits of his helmet made the hairs on Chen Ke’s back stand on end. Even for someone as stoic as Chen Ke, close encounters with such sinister visages made his flesh crawl with cold sweat.
"Get off!" Chen Ke yelled, tossing his greatsword aside and grabbing An Helei’s long hair, attempting to throw her off.
The weight of the chains on An Helei also pressed on Chen Ke, making his steps wobble, as if a child suddenly clung to his upper body.
"Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah!!!" An Helei screamed almost in Chen Ke’s face.
Her soul-piercing screams made Chen Ke’s face bleed from all orifices, his eardrums burned, his eyes wept bloody tears, his mouth felt sticky, and a warm flow surged through his nostrils.
Spiritual Energy burst forth!
Chen Ke focused his mind, snapping out of his panic, and snapped his fingers at An Helei.
"Bang!"
A colossal thrust sent An Helei soaring into mid-air, and before she flew off, her gaunt hands clung to the wings on Chen Ke’s helmet, yanking it off his head.
With the helmet gone, Chen Ke immediately felt a coolness on his face. The stuffy feeling inside the helmet wasn’t pleasant; it was like wearing a mask. Now, he was himself again.
"Now, onto the second round!" Chen Ke snarled, drawing out his M1911A1.
