Chapter 747: Chapter 618: The First Test in Office

When Amberser produced the contract, the entire first layer of hell trembled with it.

As he had said, this contract held very important symbolic significance, and it was to be assumed that Amberser would not break the contract.

But this was the infamous Deceiver.

At this point, even Zariel had to admit that Amberser was a liar who could make the Deities tremble, his lies potent enough to shake the Deity Position of Hircine.

Could the promises made by such a person really be fulfilled?

Zariel stared into Amberser’s eyes and said, "You must add a time limit!"

"How long do you want to set as the limit?" Amberser asked, "Just to be clear, this is not necessarily a problem that can be resolved in one or two years."

Indeed, it was no joke; reform depends on the individual, Drow Elves had only recently shown signs of change, and for an Angel like Zariel, who had been a Devil for who knows how many years, accumulating countless grudges, to return to Heaven Mountain was not an overnight matter.

"You decide the time, but you must write it in the contract."

Zariel understood that this was no simple matter and thus did not demand too much. In his view, if Amberser could resolve the issue within a few hundred years, that would be as good as his utmost effort.

However, Amberser directly proposed, "Let’s settle on ten years."

Magic power gathered, forming a gigantic clock before the two of them.

Pointing to the huge clock created by the power of Hell Law, Amberser said to Zariel, "Within ten years, I’ll send you back; if I cannot, I’ll set you free and ensure your safe departure from Hell."

Zariel could hardly believe it. He never thought Amberser would dare to make such an offer.

But it was the truth, the clause had been added to the contract, and having been a Devil for so many years, Zariel could clearly see that there was nothing wrong with the contract.

Since Amberser was so sincere, Zariel could not possibly refuse.

The moment Zariel signed his name on the contract, he once again felt the effect of Hell Law on his body.

But this time, it was no longer erosion and torment, just a bind.

This was the content of the contract: Amberser would attempt to help Zariel return to Heaven Mountain, and in return, Zariel must not cause trouble in Hell and had to follow Amberser’s commands.

This clause was written ambiguously; theoretically, Amberser could now demand Zariel kneel and lick his toes, but both understood that such an act was meaningless.

Zariel would rather die than suffer such humiliation again, and if Amberser dared to insult him in such a way, Zariel would dare to break the contract on the spot and commit suicide. After all, death is death, sooner or later does not make much difference.

Thus, even though this clause was unclear, both Amberser and Zariel had their own bottom lines and knew well what they could and could not do.

"Angels cannot linger in Hell for long; just dividing my attention to suppress your Holy Light drains most of my Power. I can give you a quieter environment, although it’s a bit rudimentary..."

Amberser opened a Space Gate, revealing his personal space to Zariel.

Zariel glanced at the messy environment inside, but did not seem to mind.

At least it was just cluttered with bottles and jars, the chaotic notes scattered everywhere, but at least there was no foul smell of sulfur, nor that nauseating stench of blood.

After reverting back to an Angel, Zariel felt a deep disgust for the environment of Hell. Having a "clean" place for temporary residence was considered quite a good treatment.

Zariel’s form shrank to a mortal appearance and slowly entered Amberser’s personal space.

However, before parting, Zariel said to Amberser, "Thank you, you’ve given me hope. Therefore, I too offer you a piece of advice. The Power of the first layer of hell might have chosen you automatically, but in the end, this hell belongs to Asmodeus, so you’d better think carefully about how to explain everything to this Lord of Hell.

"Asmodeus can divide the powers of Hell into nine layers and can also easily reclaim the authority of the first layer. By then, you will still be a mortal."

Amberser smiled slightly and said, "Don’t worry, Devils are not Demons, I have never feared reasoning with anyone, Deities included."

Zariel knew his worries were unnecessary; if there was anyone in this world who could convince the Lord of Hell with mere words, then it was probably only the one before him now.

Taking a deep breath, Zariel stepped into Amberser’s personal space.

Amberser also sent the clock used for timing into the space, displaying a very sincere gesture.

But at the moment the Space Gate closed, Zariel, unbeknownst to him, had entered another Plane where time flowed differently.

Personal spaces were hard to affect Deities in the past.

But now things were different. Amberser had seized the Power of the first layer of hell and could unquestionably be referred to as a "Deity" on a Deity level.

Thus, without Zariel realizing, Amberser adjusted their respective time flows.

One year in Hell was one day in the personal space.

The ten years for Zariel would be over three thousand six hundred years in Hell.

Amberser sighed and said, "Don’t blame me; after all, it’s a bet involving the honor of a Devil, we Devils are like that."

With those words, Amberser waved his hand towards the dilapidated palace.

An indescribable Power emerged from all directions, repairing the palace according to Amberser’s will. The originally gloomy and terrifying, almost ruined palace transformed in a flash into a library brimming with a scholarly atmosphere.
