Chapter 717: Chapter 608: Amberser’s Principles for Life
Amberser was busy with his own affairs when the God of Alchemy summoned him to attend the All Nations Conference. He explicitly refused.
"The conference hosted by the Lord of the Dawn is, on the surface, about Laine apologizing and making reparations, but in reality it’s about giving the Lord of the Dawn some face. What’s there to talk about? It’s just about seeing what benefits the Lord of the Dawn will offer."
Amberser disliked such boring games of cake-cutting, especially when the knife was held by a Deity.
Moreover, his relationship with the Lord of the Dawn was currently stable; there was no need to create discord over the minor benefits of the Mortal Realm.
"This is Flint’s suggestion. It’s rare that he’s figured it out."
The God of Alchemy conveyed Gustavo Flint’s thoughts to Amberser. However, Amberser showed no happiness upon hearing this and instead sighed, "Teacher, I think you simply pity him and that’s why you believe his nonsense. A sudden epiphany is highly unlikely in his case."
The God of Alchemy stroked his chin, puzzled, "Are you perhaps too suspicious? What conspiracy could he possibly have? Now that the Alchemist Association is in chaos under your influence, even if he borrows from the Goblin side, it will only be a temporary solution. With the continuous spread of alchemy knowledge, these old methods of hierarchical profit-sharing won’t last another few years."
Amberser shook his head and said, "It’s not that he has a plot that could harm us; it’s just... never mind, I’ll talk to him personally. Aren’t I supposed to offer strategies to the Dwarves? This is also a good opportunity to speak to the new Dwarf King."
The Magic Mirror allowed Amberser to appear anywhere effortlessly, so there was no need to waste time traveling; he could appear in that dark, secret room underground in the blink of an eye.
When Gustavo Flint saw Amberser appear wearing a Clown Mask, his eyelids twitched uncontrollably, but he quickly mustered a smile and said, "Old friend, long time no see."
"Yes, long time no see." Amberser greeted him perfunctorily, then turned toward the younger Dwarf beside him.
Although Seth Yuri knew whom he was about to meet, he couldn’t help but feel a bit excited when he saw Amberser.
Seth Yuri excitedly said, "Master Ultraman? Is it really you?"
Amberser also politely responded, "Lord Yuri, I didn’t expect I could still meet a descendant of the High Mountain Clan. Back when I was a novice Adventurer, I knew a Dwarf Warrior of the High Mountain Clan named Zane Yuri."
"Uncle Zane? You knew Uncle Zane? But I’ve never heard him mention your name," Seth Yuri said in surprise.
Amberser reminisced for a moment then said, "We were close friends... Oh, I used a different name when I was an Adventurer. Let me think, when I adventured with Zane, my name was Tav."
"Tav!" Seth Yuri’s previously excited expression turned somewhat awkward.
"That name... um, Uncle Zane did indeed mention it often."
Seth Yuri struggled to speak; the heroic uncle he adored did often mention that name. But most of the time it was "that greedy, cunning human Mage," "I’ve never seen such a ruthless person," "His brain is a precision instrument made of gold, but only calculates money."
However, whenever trouble arose, Uncle Zane would also say, "If only that rascal Tav were here."
When he returned from the battlefield resisting Laine’s invasion, the aging Dwarf Warrior seldom spoke of the old days again, but on his deathbed, he still mentioned, "That scoundrel Tav still owes me a cup of the finest ale."
Growing up listening to these stories, Seth Yuri, although not entirely sure whether they were friends or foes, had no doubt that Tav was a person whom a Dwarf would remember for centuries.
No one had imagined that this Tav was the same great hero who perished alongside the Magic Dragon.
"How is Zane doing?"
Amberser, noticing Seth Yuri’s embarrassment, was unfazed, well aware of what he had done over the years; one doesn’t survive without thick skin.
Seth Yuri said with a tinge of sadness, "Uncle passed away twenty years ago, returning to Moradin’s embrace."
Years of war and injuries had claimed him prematurely by Dwarven standards.
"Oh, that’s unfortunate. I still owe him a cup of good ale," Amberser remarked.
Though it wasn’t the first time he heard of a friend’s departure, Amberser still felt a touch of melancholy.
"Well, since you are a descendant of an old friend, let’s skip the needless formalities. Lord Yuri, are you prepared to take over as the new Dwarf King?"
Seth Yuri regained his composure, embodying the demeanor of a rebellious leader.
"I only dedicate myself to faith; I do not covet the position of the Dwarf King. Moradin wants me to restore our Dwarven faith to the right path, and the first step is to eliminate this Vampire."
"So, the All Nations Conference isn’t of much importance to you. You are fighting for legitimacy and justice, not mere benefits."
Seth Yuri nodded and said, "Faith is my goal, but I also do not want the Kingdom to suffer great losses. Master Flynn said this conference will affect the development of the Alchemist Association, a matter that could influence the entire Kingdom, so I hope you can also help us fight for greater rights."
