Chapter 708: Chapter 604: Truth is a Bird That Can Never Be Caged
Amberser did not take Bartle and the other Mercury Avatars with him, he merely healed their injuries and then allowed them to hide and wait for his command.
This natural Mercury River was the most suited environment for their growth; as long as they sank to the bottom of the river, ordinary demons would not be able to do anything to them.
Amberser’s initial plan was for Bartle to stay here to observe the movements of the demons, and when necessary, he could always use the Magic Mirror to tinker with this spatial passageway.
But Bartle had a different idea.
As a loyal follower of Amberser, he inherently regarded Amberser’s wishes as the goals for which he strove.
Although Bartle did not know what Amberser’s real plan was, he knew that Amberser aimed to confront the demons, those endlessly sprawling hordes of demons that extended as far as the eye could see.
Bartle hovered above the surface of the Mercury River, transforming his arms and pointing at the shattered space in the distance, "Our enemies are there! The Bone God wants to kill these demons, but we are too weak. Even if we join forces, it would still be exceedingly difficult to kill just one of them."
Previously, those winged pig demons could only be killed with the aid of Amberser’s Illusion Technique. Without the illusion’s assistance, it would merely take some time before the demons could tear them all to shreds.
The Mercury Avatars had high Magic Resistance and could be immune to some physical attacks, but if they were hit by an unstoppable explosive force, survival would be difficult.
For the first time since his birth, Bartle directly felt his own weakness. The other Mercury Avatars also felt somber; this was the first time they truly experienced the discrepancy in strength since they were born in the Divine Realm.
"The enemy is right there!" Bartle emphasized again.
The rest of the Mercury Avatars could only say helplessly, "But we can’t win, there are too many of them!"
Bartle said, "Our numbers can also be many. This is a Mercury River; food will not be scarce for us. My brethren, are you willing to give your all for the Bone God?"
"Willing!"
Different voices, a simultaneous response; all the Mercury Avatars were willing to give everything for their creator.
Bartle took on the form of a human, raised his right hand high, and loudly proclaimed, "For the Bone God! For our creator, eliminate these demons!"
One by one, the Mercury Avatars boiled with fervor, taking the form of various lifeforms, and issued loud shouts!
After the impassioned declaration, a Mercury Avatar immediately spoke up, "Bartle, we can still split and reproduce twice. Just give us time, and our numbers can fill this space!"
However, Bartle shook his head and said, "It’s not that simple. Although our offspring grow quickly, what can we do with bodies alone? Those drooling demons have swords and armor; why do we have only our bodies? Brethren, we were graced in the Divine Realm; within our inherited memory are countless knowledge of alchemy. Are we doomed to fight with mere fangs and claws like beasts?"
The rest of the Mercury Avatars fell into contemplation.
Bartle’s body suddenly surged upward, his left hand transformed into a longsword, and his right hand into a Mercury staff.
"The Deity told us that the World Laws have limited our power, causing the powerful Evil Silver Gradient Ancestor to be trapped within the Divine Realm. But the World Laws only forbid the transfer of power, not the development of wisdom. We have inherited all our Ancestor’s wisdom and insights from birth; can we not use this wisdom to do more for the Bone God?!"
Bartle raised the Mercury staff high, began chanting a complicated incantation, and a flame condensed atop the staff. A fist-sized flame shot out ten or so meters, scorching a small pit on the bank.
Rocket Technique – it wasn’t even worthy of being called a spell, rather just a kind of trick.
Bartle hadn’t systematically practiced magic; this trick was one of the few pieces of magic he had mastered.
"Magic, alchemy, this is the power of wisdom. Since we’ve been granted wisdom, we can’t waste it. Brethren, pray to our Deity, ask him to bestow more knowledge, so we can conquer this world!"
Following Bartle’s cry, all the Mercury Avatars began to chant, "For the Bone God!"
Unfortunately, by now, Amberser was still only a mortal, so this faith could only flow into his Golden Divine Throne, becoming one of the countless mountains of gold.
The gold formed through the conversion of faith was so minimal that even Amberser could hardly notice it.
However, in the Divine Realm, the Evil Silver Gradient perceived this with distinct clarity, as in the strict sense, the Evil Silver Gradient was the true Racial God of the Mercury Avatar Race. It was just that from him, the object of all Mercury Avatars’ faith had shifted to Amberser.
Sensing the emotions transmitted by Bartle, the mountainous Evil Silver Gradient blew a few bubbles.
"Knowledge? Magic? Alchemy?"
The massive body of the Evil Silver Gradient shook, then realized it understood none of these.
As the first Mercury Avatar, its intelligence was not yet on par with a normal human, at best equating to a child of just over ten years old. Physical strength did not bring a qualitative change in wisdom; Bartle’s request was an impossible mission for it.
The Evil Silver Gradient originally didn’t want to pay any mind to Bartle, his many times great-grandchild’s plea, but Bartle mentioned it was for "the Bone God."
"Ah, for the Bone God."
The Evil Silver Gradient reluctantly wriggled its body, moving in front of a massive Magic Mirror.
