Chapter 656: Chapter 576: One Strike to Break the City
The new capital of the Dwarves was built right on top of the ruins of Alchemy City, occupying a broader area and looking more magnificent and bustling, yet it was already filled to the brim by migrating Dwarf nobility alone.
Many locals of Alchemy City could only live outside the capital, on the barren lands where they built their own manors and castles, becoming satellite towns and an outer defense ring of the Dwarf Capital.
Raul was among them, yet he felt quite content.
Two years ago, he was merely a freeman scraping by under a Lord, his only property being a shabby wooden hut less than ten square meters. To support his sister in learning Alchemy, Raul had sold just about everything.
As a result of an economic crisis, the siblings had become fleeing slaves.
Whenever he remembered the past, Raul particularly cherished his current life.
Since he started dealing in the slave trade, he had transformed from a poor boy to a rich man. He had bought a significant estate, even larger than that of the Porcupine Knight’s he had initially known. He had many servants, even more than the Porcupine Knight had.
If only his sister could see all of this.
Whenever he thought of Isabel’s resolute face, Raul filled with anger. He downed the wine in his glass and then angrily smashed the glass.
After the clattering sound, someone opened Raul’s room door, and a seductive woman, scantily dressed, entered.
"Master, are you brooding over your sister again?"
Her name was Ivy, originally a slave bought by Raul, but being too tempting, he had made her his woman. This woman was not only delightful in bed but also had a knack for training slaves, which greatly expanded Raul’s business.
Naturally, Raul adored such a woman.
However, it was also because of this woman named Ivy, who often pointed out Isabel’s faults, that their relationship worsened.
But Raul had to admit that Ivy had a point.
The reason he could become a Slave Master here was partly due to the Alchemist Association’s help, which was for Isabel’s sake.
After Isabel repeatedly rejected the overtures of the Alchemist Association, Raul distinctly felt his business becoming less smooth. What used to be convenient now became inconvenient.
Not to mention, it became difficult to buy potions that treated various illnesses. They used to be easily discounted, but now they were frequently out of stock and impossible to buy without a price increase.
Many high-end slaves required these potions, otherwise, they wouldn’t fetch a good price.
Raul knew where the problem lay, unfortunately, Isabel just wasn’t willing to make sacrifices for his sake.
"That Lich is already dead, I really don’t understand what Isabel is thinking. Does she really believe that she can survive in this world on her own?! When we had no one else, didn’t she see the most malicious aspect of this world? How can she still be so naive!"
Raul couldn’t comprehend Isabel’s stubbornness. Isabel had done enough while the Lich was alive; surely, she couldn’t dedicate her entire life to a deceased benefactor.
Ivy lay in Raul’s arms, drawing circles on his chest with her finger, and spoke in a gentle voice, "My Lord, if you ask me, your sister isn’t foolish or virtuous. You raised her as a brother, surely that counts for more than what the Lich Lord did for her. How can she only repay the Undead and not you?"
Raul, his breath smelling of alcohol, asked, "Then why do you think?"
"What else could it be? Your sister has feelings for that Lich. Only a woman can understand, this unrequited crush is unforgettable, hence even though the Lich is dead, your sister hasn’t given up."
"That’s impossible, absolutely impossible. That was an Undead."
Although Raul initially found the idea ridiculous, upon reflection, he did recall seeing Isabel spacing out, not engrossed in her research but rather staring at something the Lich had left behind.
Raul angrily exclaimed, "Has she gone mad? To fall in love with a Lich?!"
Ivy laughed, "What’s so strange about that? Which young girl wouldn’t like a story of a hero saving a beauty?"
"What should I do then? I can’t watch her waste her life."
Raul had never considered this reason; no wonder his sister had disregarded her brother, blinded by love. But the Lich was already dead; how could Raul let Isabel stay trapped in that forever?
Ivy seemed to be prepared, her body coiling around Raul like a python, whispering in his ear, "Of course, you find her a man. It’s just a young girl’s fantasy. Once she experiences a man, she’ll naturally forget the person who isn’t here anymore."
"Just right, I know many nobles are interested in this genius Alchemist, and many among them are from the Alchemist Association, as long as this matter is handled properly, wouldn’t all our problems be solved?"
Raul hesitated and said, "Could she agree after being so resolute before?"
Ivy whispered in Raul’s ear, "Don’t you know my abilities? Just nod, and I naturally have ways to make her agree. Women, you know, they all say ’no’ but after getting married, it’s all the same."
Raul frowned deeply, he was well aware of the methods Ivy was referring to, the same ones used on slaves. Was he really going to hand over his sister to those nobles?
Seeing Raul unresponsive, Ivy asked doubtfully, "What’s wrong, my lord? Can’t you bear it? You truly are a good brother, but your sister didn’t think of you as her kin when she rejected you."
Raul’s face showed anger, and Ivy thought she had persuaded this Slave Master. However, Raul pushed her away and roared, "Whether she sees me as her brother or not, she remains my sister. Put away your tricks, or I will turn you back into a slave!"
Ivy quickly bowed her head, saying in panic, "Calm your anger, my lord, I truly was just trying to ease your burden. If my lord is unwilling, I would never dare to act recklessly. My lord, you saved me, and all I have is yours, my loyalty to you is absolute."
Although she spoke humbly, her expression was filled with resentment, but she bowed her head deep enough that Raul could not see.
Hearing the woman’s words, Raul irritably said, "Get out, I don’t want to see you tonight."
Just as Ivy was twisting her body to leave, she suddenly heard the alarm ring through the estate.
Raul was startled and, ignoring Ivy, hurried out to check the situation.
Standing atop the high castle, Raul saw a strange figure standing outside the estate’s wall.
Under the illumination of the fire, Raul could only see that the figure was tall and clad in black armor, resembling a formidable Knight, but he had no mount, nor could Raul see any weapon.
What could this odd Knight want at his estate in the middle of the night?
As if sensing Raul’s gaze, the Black Knight looked up towards him.
The next second, the Black Knight shouted, "Raul, come down yourself, don’t force me to act. My master commanded me to bring you back, dead or alive!"
Raul felt a surge of rage go straight to his skull; since he had become a Slave Trader, ’master’ was a term others used to address him. Who was this fool, daring to come alone and provoke him?
Raul angrily ordered, "Bind him! Add an auction tomorrow and sell him as the final slave!"
Quickly, Raul’s order was relayed, and soon a great number of soldiers appeared on the estate wall, hurling fist-sized stones at the Black Knight.
Anyone who had fought in battles knew that such thick Heavy Armor was not much affected by arrows unless used by an immensely strong archer with Armor-Piercing Arrows. Ordinary people found throwing stones directly more effective against Heavy Armor Knights.
Amid the clattering chaos, the Black Knight seemed to move clumsily and was soon hit by a dozen stones.
Just when the mercenaries thought him a fool, they witnessed a scene they would never forget.
Behind the Black Knight, two brilliant flares appeared, the strong propulsion allowing him to rush towards the wall at a speed faster than a warhorse’s charge.
With a loud bang, the two-three layers of wooden stakes making up the wall were smashed apart, and many mercenaries were immediately sent flying upon impact, landing with broken limbs.
Dragging two fiery trails, the Black Knight charged directly towards Raul’s castle, obliterating both soldiers and structures in his furious rush. The mercenaries and desperadoes Raul had hired couldn’t slow him down; those who ran too slowly were turned into pulp by his charge.
It was only under the small castle’s walls that the Black Knight finally stopped.
Just as Raul thought this monster couldn’t break through the castle walls, the creature raised its right hand, and a silver-white liquid flowed from his body, enveloping his fist and then transforming into a massive Meteor Hammer.
The Black Knight swung the silver Meteor Hammer, its whistling painfully piercing, and after two rotations, it smashed heavily against the castle wall.
The thick stone wall couldn’t withstand this fearsome Power, and was directly smashed into a large hole.
The Black Knight then put away the Meteor Hammer and strode into the castle.
Raul heard the Black Knight’s voice again by his ear.
"I can reach the highest point of the castle in at most two minutes, Raul. If you don’t surrender before I reach you, I will only be able to take your corpse back. My master said, dead or alive!"
