Chapter 653: Chapter 573 The Deity Has Lost Patience
Perhaps it was because Amberser’s own experiences were already legendary enough that most people tended to overlook his background.
Moreover, Amberser had always showcased his own wisdom, the eloquence that could cause even the Gods to fall, rather than any formidable power or profound background.
This led everyone to subconsciously ignore his "background".
If a Lich could wipe out your entire family with just his words, would you care who stood behind him? Was it important?
Even Selwyn, a novice student, felt the same way.
Understanding one’s mentor, starting from the mentor’s words, actions, and past deeds, Selwyn had never bothered to inquire about Amberser’s connections. Not to mention the relationship with the God of Alchemy, few people even knew about the Elegy Poetry Society in Amberser’s history.
Now that Amberser had revealed his identity himself, Selwyn was so shocked that he was left speechless.
Being a student of a Deity was far different from being a follower of one, much more formidable than being Chosen of God.
Because the relationship between mentor and student was one of personal equality, whereas the relationship between followers and the Chosen fundamentally involved the Deity bestowing charity upon mortals.
Selwyn had no choice but to ask further, to fully understand what he had missed.
However, the relationship between the God of Alchemy and Amberser was too special for Amberser to elaborate on; he could only say that the God of Alchemy had been his mentor when he was still mortal, and brushed it off in a few simple sentences.
Selwyn was dazed by the revelation, and Amberser could only give him some time to slowly digest it all.
This student had decent talent but had spent too long confined with another Selwyn, not seeing the world nor its people, which resulted in a lack of experience that made it hard for her to keep up with Amberser’s pace. Instead of pressing Selwyn to handle the Alchemist Association’s issues, Amberser let her focus on her own work while centering on the business involving Drow Elf transports.
"Although you’re older than Harvey, you’ve spent decades avoiding reality with that old man. What you need now is to see more of the world, to observe and think more. Start by learning about the viciousness of human nature with those Drow Elves."
This was the task Amberser set for Selwyn, she was talented but still in need of much training.
Selwyn now revered Amberser as if he were a Deity and immediately started packing to travel with the Drow Elves.
As for her other duties, with Amberser present, she naturally didn’t have to worry.
After sending off this promising student, Amberser stroked his chin, pondering how to deal with the old folks of the Alchemist Association.
Although it seemed like Gustavo Flint made mistakes out of arrogance every time, Amberser, as his old adversary, was very clear about his status in alchemy.
If President Gary from those years was the unparalleled jewel of alchemy, making all other geniuses pale in comparison, then Gustavo Flint was the gold that could still be seen under the radiance of this jewel.
Even if the president stole most of the spotlight, nobody could ignore Flint.
Gustavo Flint’s achievements in alchemy could fill a small library, including but not limited to, the efficient purification of most basic potions and the improvement of equipment Enchantment Magic Arrays.
For instance, without Gustavo Flint’s research, alchemy factories would now take three times as long to concoct a Vitality Potion, at one and a half times the cost, and with possibly only a third of the efficacy. His research on enchanted equipment is similar; if this old fellow didn’t exist, the difficulty of manufacturing all enchanted equipment would increase tenfold, and the success rate would plummet drastically.
Although this dark-skinned old man always seemed to be on the losing end, when it came to alchemy achievements, Amberser was far from his equal.
Among the numerous lower and mid-tier alchemists, Gustavo Flint held more prestige than President Gary, because his research genuinely taught the lower-tier alchemists something and changed their lives. On the contrary, that naturally gifted President Gary spent his days researching who knows what; they couldn’t even understand his papers.
This was also why Gustavo Flint was able to quickly establish a new Alchemist Association, his name alone was enough to make the lower and mid-tier alchemists choose to follow him.
And if one wanted to undermine the Alchemist Association from the ground up, they had to put in the effort in this area, to make these lower and mid-tier alchemists abandon their admiration for Gustavo Flint and move into Amberser’s embrace.
As for Selwyn’s concerns that the defecting alchemists would only become financial burdens, that wasn’t an issue at all.
Amberser didn’t plan on having these alchemists work for him; he wanted them to continue working for the Alchemist Association but soon find that their earnings were disproportionately low compared to their "knowledge level". Then, with just a gentle nudge, the Alchemist Association would collapse.
By then, the Alchemist Association would be in disarray, with alchemists possessing skills but finding themselves unable to secure work, standing on street corners with signs seeking jobs, only able to encounter factory screw-tightening tasks and having to compete with a horde of illiterates.
That was exactly the result Amberser wanted to see, and then he casually tossed out some Gold Coins, and those talents would all come surging forth, with no need to spend a fortune to poach them.
However, to accomplish this, he still needed to understand the situation of the Alchemist Association.
With a flash of light from the Magic Mirror, Amberser had already traveled from beneath the desert to the Dwarf Kingdom and arrived inside his former castle.
In the largest Alchemy Laboratory there, the light from an illumination technique made the room as bright as day. Isabel was intently watching a glass bottle in her hand, and beside her stood a twelve or thirteen-year-old girl, nervously clutching the hem of her dress.
This was Isabel’s newly-taken apprentice, who, like her, came from the slums. Today, she had just learned how to concoct a Tranquility Potion, a Magic Potion that could suppress extreme emotions and maintain calm. However, the dosage had to be moderate; too little would have no effect, and too much could cause mental damage.
Isabel swirled the bottle, carefully observing the color of the potion. She was about to comment when Amberser’s voice came through the Magic Mirror, "Very nice, it looks better than the Tranquility Potion you concocted in the beginning."
Isabel nearly dropped the potion bottle, turning back in surprise to look at the Magic Mirror.
Seeing the youthful appearance of Amberser, Isabel said in a hoarse voice, "Master, have you really come back?!"
"Didn’t I tell you that I had already been resurrected?" Amberser said.
Although not many people knew he had been resurrected, Amberser certainly couldn’t keep it hidden from the most important few around him. Withered Rose must have informed Isabel early on just to put her mind at ease.
Isabel wiped away tears from the corner of her eyes and smiled, "Lady Rose indeed mentioned it, but I was always a bit worried without seeing you with my own eyes. Now that I see you are all right, I feel at ease."
Amberser praised, "Isabel, I’ve heard about your achievements. Legendary Spells even published your paper; you’re way more formidable than your old master. In just a short time apart, you’ve become an Alchemist capable of standing on your own."
Not long ago, Isabel had published a paper on the improvement of the formula for a condensing potion. The new formula she presented not only significantly enhanced the condensation speed but also greatly reduced production costs, making a potion that once had a very narrow and expensive range of applications become essential in most Alchemy Laboratories.
Too many Alchemy experiments needed low temperatures, and this new type of condensing potion was much more useful than the Ice Freeze Technique.
Isabel’s research received recognition from all Alchemists and was published in the main issue of "Legendary Spells", although it was one of the later papers in the magazine. For someone of Isabel’s age to publish a paper in "Legendary Spells" was a surprising achievement.
At Isabel’s age, Amberser had only known to go to taverns, play dice, and swindle money from others.
Moreover, the research on the condensing potion had been entirely solved by Isabel on her own. Amberser, as her teacher, had at most only provided her with a library for her to consult at will and had not given any substantial guidance.
Faced with Amberser’s praise, Isabel revealed a radiant smile.
"I can’t let you down, Master. After all, I am your student."
Then, Isabel led the timid little girl to the front of the Magic Mirror and introduced her, "Master, this is my newly-taken student, Jiana. She also has great talent in Alchemy. Jiana, the person in front of you is my master, the great Legendary Mage Diga Ultraman, the smartest person in the world."
Listening to Isabel’s introduction, the little girl curiously glanced at Amberser, then quickly knelt down to curtsy, but her prostrate posture revealed her identity.
"Is Jiana of slave origin?" Amberser asked.
It was the kneeling tribute of slaves in the presence of nobility; Jiana clearly saw Amberser as a noble, and old habits didn’t change on the spur of the moment.
Hearing Amberser’s question and thinking that he might dislike her, Jiana shook with fear so much that her body trembled, crawling quietly on the ground towards Isabel’s feet.
Isabel nodded and said, "Recently, the slave trade on the Dwarves’ side has become more frequent than before. Jiana... she’s a runaway slave, just like me."
Amberser told Jiana to stand up first, and the little girl hid behind Isabel in fear, clutching Isabel’s dress.
Amberser casually spoke a few comforting words, then asked Isabel, "Runaway slaves? The Dwarf Kingdom has been doing quite well recently. Laine’s compensation is about to come, and the lost desert is going to be reclaimed. Why does it sound like there’s unrest brewing?"
Isabel explained, "Actually, after the Dwarves’ migration, a number of problems arose within the Kingdom. Previously, many Dwarf Lords were dissatisfied with the King’s reign, the new territories after the migration didn’t meet their expectations, and they had many conflicts with the new King. But at that time, the situation for Dwarves was not optimistic, so there was no internal strife.
"But recently, for some reason, many Lords have already started to openly oppose the Dwarf King’s orders. Although it hasn’t reached the level of rebellion, the situation is indeed a bit chaotic. Many Lords are recruiting soldiers and buying horses; naturally, the slave trade has become more and more frequent."
Amberser immediately understood after listening. The Gods of the Dwarves had less patience than he thought; they were probably already selecting a new Dwarf King as they were very dissatisfied with the Vampiric Dwarf King.
But that was not important; Amberser didn’t care about the fate of the Dwarves and directly asked Isabel, "How well do you know the middle and lower echelons of Alchemists in the Alchemist Association, and if you were to host a gathering, how many people could you invite?"
