Chapter 649: Chapter 571: Make Me Forget Her
As the image in the Magic Mirror faded, Allen immediately started packing his luggage to return to Laine.
Laine’s transition to a council system involved numerous considerations, and Allen couldn’t handle it alone. He had to seek advice from the surviving elders and tour the nation.
There wasn’t much time left before the All Nations conference, and it seemed Allen would be even busier in the days to come.
Meanwhile, in the ethereal Connected Dream Realm, Amberser and Withered Rose were discussing matters related to Laine.
The two were snuggled up intimately. The dream realm featured a beautiful beach where the sunlight and the Sea Wind were just perfect, imbuing a sense of lazy comfort.
Perhaps tired of days filled with hatred, Withered Rose always preferred the leisurely sensation of the dreamscape, even her manner of speaking had slowed down a bit.
With a beauty like Amberser in his arms, enjoying the grapes Withered Rose peeled for him, he gently said, "Look, Allen had a great chance of becoming Emperor of Laine, but he let it go just like that. The Lord of the Dawn and Arthur Laine weren’t wrong about him."
Withered Rose nodded and said calmly, "Then let him deal with it on his own. Why drag me into it? As I’ve told you, I no longer harbor any hatred towards Laine."
Amberser’s conversation with Allen had been live-streamed directly, and Withered Rose was well aware that Amberser’s references to an important person were about her; however, she truly had no particular feelings about Laine.
"Books always say that only by letting go of the past can one reborn," he said soothingly. "Regardless, you are still Her Majesty, the Queen of Laine. Putting this matter to rest will benefit you. Trust me, I know souls best."
Withered Rose nodded; she didn’t want to think about anything at the moment, just to enjoy the peace of this instant.
Although it wasn’t the first time she had met with Amberser in a dream, most of the time it was like any couple, strolling, enjoying the scenery, and having Amberser talk to her about the latest knight novels.
Her previous life had been too busy, filled with too much hate. Now, Withered Rose just wanted to slow down time and savor those lost moments.
"By the way, I heard the Elf Tribe is preparing for Katherine’s promotion ceremony, are you sure you don’t want to go see her?" Amberser asked.
"I can’t resist Katherine’s charm right now..." Amberser glanced at Withered Rose, as if unsure whether he should have said that.
Withered Rose said with a smile, "Worried that I would be jealous? I’ve seen the Elf Queen before. I know you’re just telling the truth."
"I was actually hoping you would be unhappy, that would mean your emotions are getting closer to those of the living," said Amberser.
Although Amberser had awakened in Withered Rose a soul longing for beauty, the Undead body was still affecting her soul incessantly. How effective the Connected Dream Realm experience could be was uncertain, even to Amberser.
"Don’t worry about that. Even if I did come back to life, I wouldn’t mind," she said. "You’ve forgotten what the Ryan Royalty did to preserve their bloodline. The education I received since childhood didn’t include such petty jealousy."
Amberser asked, "So, you mean you wouldn’t mind if I took several lovers?"
Withered Rose met Amberser’s eyes and said, "You could try."
"Ha, just joking. I don’t have time for that right now."
Amberser was not a fool; regardless of what his heart truly felt, he would never admit out loud to being disloyal.
Withered Rose was satisfied with Amberser’s response and continued, "But the Elf Tribe is always crucial. Your plan in Hell is not something a mortal can accomplish; you need more Deity assistance."
Amberser hadn’t kept Withered Rose in the dark regarding the End Blood War plan. Although the Undead Queen wasn’t too familiar with the specifics, a matter concerning the entirety of Hell definitely wasn’t to be influenced by mortals.
No matter how clever Amberser was, he ultimately had to leverage the strength of Deities.
Although Amberser had established the Hell Bank in a short time, neither Zariel nor Mammon would assist him in such a mad endeavor. The newly acquired Hell Clerk and the madwoman were far from enough.
The Elven Gods were a fine option. If Corellon intervened, even the Lord of Hell would have to wake up and have a personal chat with the Elven God-King.
This was one of the paths Amberser had planned to take.
Engaging several Deities in the abduction of the Koutao Mermaid Goddess, he now sought to end the Hellish Blood War, ensuring to win the support of well-known and mighty Divine Forces.
If Corellon, Rosanda, Talos, and Ogma, with their great divine powers, worked together, then cutting out a branch of the Nether River wouldn’t be difficult at all.
Amberser had never seen Corellon, but Katherine was the Elven Gods’ most favored disciple, and through Katherine, he could certainly communicate with Corellon.
Withered Rose believed that Amberser couldn’t miss this opportunity.
Amberser was well aware of this, and Katherine had also taken the initiative to invite him for a meeting, but Amberser really had no confidence in maintaining his rationality in front of Katherine.
Especially after experiencing the crisis of transforming a Mirror Spirit, Amberser realized that his willpower was actually at the level of a mortal, unable to compare with a hero like Arthur Laine, and not even close to Allen.
Helpless, how could someone who lifetime indulged in pleasures and had no grand ambitions possess any willpower to speak of?
And Katherine’s charm had a very special effect: initial astonishment upon first sight, followed by a deeper impact the more one knew about her.
For outsiders who had only seen Katherine once, they might be charmed at the moment, and then gradually forget her if they do not see her again for a long time; however, those who have been in her presence continuously would be seriously affected.
The current Elven King was a case in point—no, the entire Elf Tribe was the best example.
Katherine caused half of the elves to be afflicted with Mana Addiction Disease, bearing such a heavy stigma, and yet the Silvermoon Tribunal’s unanimous punishment for her was merely to be grounded. Anyone else would have been executed without delay.
Amberser was all too familiar with Katherine, and merely recalling the times they spent together could make Amberser’s "heart flutter," bearing in mind that he was a Lich at the time and that this memory had been filtered of many subjective feelings.
Once they met again, Amberser would fall instantly, rendering the meeting meaningless. He couldn’t just suggest to Katherine, "Why don’t you turn into an Ogre for our meeting?"
Withered Rose was also quite helpless and tried suggesting, "Why not find someone else to convey the message? Melina could go, perhaps?"
"Our daughter wanted to marry this Elf Queen the first time she saw her. You’d better not let Melina go. The more innocent the person, the deeper Katherine’s influence. Perhaps only the chaotic and evil Abyssal Demons could resist it."
Withered Rose sighed, then said, "Then there’s no way around it. Let me represent you to meet Katherine."
"You’ll go?" Amberser looked at Withered Rose in surprise, trying to confirm if she was being sarcastic.
"At least I am still a Lich now, and Katherine’s influence on me is minimal. As long as those elves do not object to an Undead going to the Silvermoon Tribunal, then I’ll go and talk to the Elf Tribe on your behalf."
Withered Rose was serious, and to her now, nothing was more important than Amberser’s affairs.
However, Amberser replied, "I am afraid that you too will be charmed. You are not the simple Lich you used to be, with emotions although diluted, you are still significantly subject to Katherine’s influence."
Katherine’s charm did not distinguish between genders, nor races, and if the hard-won Undead Queen was charmed by the Elf Queen, Amberser would truly be devastated.
"Really?"
Withered Rose said this, but couldn’t help recalling the first time she met Katherine, and then she unexpectedly found herself having a somewhat favorable impression of her.
It was outrageous; even memories could be influential?
Amberser, keenly aware of the change in Withered Rose’s expression, hurriedly said, "See, I told you it wouldn’t work. I’ll just write her a letter instead, let’s skip the meeting. Maybe we can communicate normally after she ascends to Deity, at which time she might be able to control her charm."
Withered Rose stared at Amberser for a while then suddenly said, "I can’t accept having favorable feelings for an elf."
Amberser, perplexed, asked, "What do you mean by that?"
"I’ve said it, I can’t accept even a shadow of Katherine in my heart, not even a little."
Amberser frowned, this sounded a bit off; was this jealousy or an emotional affair?
Katherine bit her lip, her eyes seductive as she looked at Amberser, and then whispered in his ear, "Now, make me forget her."
Amberser looked at the beauty in his arms; this time, he understood.
Amberser said with a smile, "As you command, my Queen."
