Chapter 646: Chapter 568: The Dwarf King Who Does Not Seek Favor

Allen had promised Amberser that he would help organize the suicide list of elite names.

At first, Allen was somewhat resistant. Even though these people had committed suicide and descended into Hell, in Allen’s heart, they were still the people of Laine. However, Allen had no other choice; Amberser just wanted to obtain detailed information about these individuals.

Could mere lists and detailed information really be exchanged for peace and save Laine?

If he refused, how could he face the Empire’s citizens?

But with this as compensation, Allen always felt uneasy.

It was just a list, merely a bit of trouble with no inherent value. Could the greedy Lich really help solve the Dwarf problem with just this?

The many anxieties increased the mental pressure on Allen, inadvertently causing him a bout of headaches.

Amberser, too, had a straightforward personality. Once he received Allen’s promise, he directly cast a Sleep Spell on him, letting this young man, who was almost burned out, fall into a deep sleep.

Looking at the unconscious Allen, Amberser whispered, "I hope you don’t blame me when you wake up."

The Magic Mirror turned off,, and the next second, Amberser appeared in the Royal Palace of the Dwarf Kingdom.

The aesthetics of the Dwarves had always been very direct — grand and luxurious, contrasting with their small stature and rugged appearance.

This newly built Dwarf Palace, while not like the original, could still be considered a miraculous and majestic palace.

With gold reliefs visible everywhere, gilded decorations, along with luxurious items like chandeliers and velvet, nobody would think that this was something a refugee kingdom could build.

The Dwarves were truly rich, having the unique privilege of living on the ancient sites of the Giant Tribe.

The vast amounts of Gold collected by this once ruling race had all become the treasury of the Dwarves. Grave robbing had made them rich, their main advantage, but being too wealthy led to their mediocre combat abilities, resulting in the Laine People defeating them and taking over half of their kingdom.

Now, all the Dwarves’ faces could hardly hide their excitement.

Because they knew their chance to reclaim their homeland was imminent. The Laine People were about to be done for, and years of grievances were about to be settled.

The battle with the Magic Dragon had just ended, and people were a bit hesitant to move forward, but so much time had passed and Laine was almost in chaos; it was time to act.

Deep within the Royal Palace lay the bedchamber of the Dwarf King.

Since the relocation of the capital, the king had remained indoors, staying in this bedchamber with sealed windows. He attended to governmental affairs by summoning his ministers to him.

The Dwarf King’s own explanation was that having lost much of his kingdom, he felt ashamed before his ancestors and thus did not deserve to sit on the throne again until he could return to his ancestral lands.

Only a few knew that the true reason the Dwarf King hid in the darkness was that he had long since become a Vampire.

Periodically, virgins from various races were sent to the Royal Palace.

The Dwarf King sustained his life on this fresh blood, living much more comfortably than Hake Stone.

With the growing popularity of the Magic Mirror, the Dwarf King found it very useful and no longer needed to have his ministers enter his blood-stained chamber; he could communicate remotely.

Therefore, a large Magic Mirror also stood beside the Dwarf King.

At that moment, the Magic Mirror flashed with a request to communicate.

The Dwarf King, holding a goblet filled with fresh blood, walked over to the Magic Mirror curiously and connected the call.

When Amberser’s face appeared on the Magic Mirror, the Dwarf King was genuinely startled.

"Who are you... wait, is it you?!"

The Dwarf King did not know Amberser well, but after the battle with the Magic Dragon, this hero who had sacrificed himself had become a household name, and the Dwarf King had seen Amberser’s biography and knew what he looked like.

He just hadn’t expected to meet him in the Magic Mirror. What was this, an illusion trick? Fraud by the Magic Mirror?

As he pondered, uncertain, Amberser spoke first, "Respected Your Majesty, I am indeed the Lich you’re thinking of, but you seem quite surprised to see me. May I boldly guess that the Dwarf Gods haven’t told you about my resurrection?"

His words could be taken as an offense, but the Dwarf King did not get angry; instead, he watched Amberser very cautiously.

After a while, the Dwarf King abruptly changed the subject, "Master Ultraman’s resurrection is good news for the entire world, but it seems you don’t want too many people to know about it."

Amberser laughed and then said, "I heard that Your Majesty was a hot-tempered brute, but it appears that was a rumor."

Earlier, the Dwarves had behaved poorly, and with the Dwarf King’s reputation for being fickle, everyone saw him as a despicable tyrant. But now, the Dwarf King’s thoughts were clear, he didn’t just respond to Amberser’s remarks, but hit right on Amberser’s concerns. Such a person could not be a brute.

The Dwarf King, however, ignored Amberser’s flattery, as he was very tense inside. What did this Lich suddenly appear for?

It was no wonder the Dwarf King was nervous; Amberser’s influence was indeed too significant.

Not to mention his accomplishments in saving the world, just the industries under his name were enough to shake the world’s economy. Previously, everyone thought he was dead, and were slowly nibbling away at his wealth. Although the effect was moderate since the Lich was dead, they were not in a hurry and could afford to take their time.

But if this Lich were still alive, with his previous business acumen, within ten years all the kingdoms of the world would have to rely on loans to survive. Compared to this future, the Dwarf King’s identity as a Vampire seemed less significant.

"Your Excellency resurrecting is such a major event yet not made public, but you come visiting all of a sudden, it seems there’s an extremely important matter to discuss. Please speak, I am all ears."

Amberser was really pleased; he liked dealing with smart people who know their boundaries because it was easier.

Amberser said calmly, "I am here for the Empire of Laine, Your Majesty. I have protected this troubled empire."

The Dwarf King furrowed his brows, it really was a big matter.

"I wonder which Laine is in the mouth of Master Ultraman? Is it the Laine that invades others’ territories, loots resources from other countries, and slaughters other races?"

"Well, I initially thought to say that there is no right or wrong between nations, only conflicts of interest. But I gather the Lord of the Dawn would not agree, so I’ll just answer this question of yours. The former Laine was fanatical and cruel, now suffering punishment. Thus, your demand for reparations from Laine makes sense. But, you want more than reparations, don’t you?

"You want to erase Laine, take this opportunity to smash Laine’s territory, and then swallow it bit by bit.

"Silvermoon Tribunal is too far, the Elf Tribe won’t intervene, Orcs are still struggling with their famine—barely capable of seizing a few cities, hardly a match for you. Druids are confined to the Emerald Dream Forest, usually reluctant to leave the forest... With such a tasty piece of meat like Laine in front of you, you can take the biggest bite, so you want more than reparations, you want the extinction of Laine."

"Your Majesty, do you think I am right?"

"Yes, you are correct, but what’s wrong with that? From my position, shouldn’t I act this way?" The Dwarf King did not deny it, knowing well that the Lich before him was a smart man and that concealing the issue was useless.

"Of course, that’s correct, but I think, Your Majesty, you have overlooked one thing. This benefits the Dwarf Kingdom, but is it really good for you personally?"

This remark made the Dwarf King look confused and he retorted, "How could that not be a good thing?"

Amberser smiled and said, "Of course not, Your Majesty. Do you think that by transforming into a Vampire, you can eternally rule this kingdom, so the larger and stronger the country, the better?"

Amberser directly exposed the secret of the Dwarf King, causing his brows to furrow even deeper.

But considering the relationship between Hake Stone, who transformed him, and this Lich, the Dwarf King was not surprised; it would have been strange if the Lich did not know.

Discontentedly, the Dwarf King said, "Master Ultraman, I think you should clarify your purpose quickly. In a little while, the new negotiations will begin."

"All right, let me be clearer then. Your Majesty, you always think expanding territory is good, but have you ever considered the stance of the Gods? Since you fell gravely ill, how many mistakes have you made, why were the Dwarves without the protection of the Gods when in peril, watching as half of the territory was lost? And after your transformation into a Vampire, can you still consider yourself a follower of the Dwarven Gods?"

"Your Majesty, do you think that your territorial expansion now is not simply making things easier for the next Dwarf King?"

Bricks crumbled under the feet of the Dwarf King, and a cluster of bat wings unfurled behind him as the Dwarf King said angrily, "Lich, do you know what you’re talking about?! You will pay for your reckless words!"
