Chapter 634: Chapter 558: It’s Hard to Be a Good Person_3
Succubi were fairly strong devils, and they were particularly well-suited for Domino Lauri to harness.
The other nobles of Impure Chant followed suit; the millions of nobles who descended into Hell shrank to a mere hundred thousand in just a few days. However, this sacrifice, completely indifferent to kinship, granted these tens of thousands of nobles immense power. They were practically all forces comprised of high-level devils, and if they worked together, they could sweep over many territories and become a massive force.
This wasn’t difficult, after all, everyone knew each other well, and none were good people; nobody would choose to dredge up the past at this time.
As a result, Domino Lauri quickly regained control of power and reassembled the Council of the Unpure, aiming to carve out a place in Hell.
And then... she was conscripted by the Blood River Fortress.
"Sorry, the Blood War is supreme; all devils must heed the call to arms. Your hundred thousand high-level devils are excellent soldiers, and Duke Bayer isn’t blind."
Caught off-guard, Domino Lauri became a mere soldier on the battlefield of the Blood War. Although she gained a large amount of magic equipment and Duke Bayer didn’t scatter their troops, a hundred thousand devils were insignificant on the battlefield of the Blood War.
In the first month, half of the hundred thousand perished.
Only when facing demons did they realize that the wars of the Prime Material Plane were child’s play. In other races, fearlessness was a trait of the most elite forces, but on the battlefield of the Blood War, fearlessness was just standard for demons.
Demons who, even with bodies hacked to pieces, still bit fiercely, were commonplace.
Anyone with even a slightly weaker will would go mad in a day on this brutal battlefield, then become food for demons.
Domino Lauri, however, survived. After all, she was one of the Hell Knights who had followed Zariel into Hell. She adapted better to Hell and in the harsh test of life and death, picked up her long-forgotten combat skills.
By the time Domino Lauri and the other surviving Tifflin "refugees" came to seek him out, Amberser could hardly recognize her.
As one on the list of enemies, although not very high up, Domino Lauri smartly chose "peace."
Unlike the other idiots who came knocking just to fight, Domino Lauri was restrained from the start, saying she wanted to meet with Amberser, and her request was swiftly answered.
Amberser was surprised by the transformation of the former Tifflin Queen, not just in appearance, but most importantly, in demeanor.
Domino Lauri, however, didn’t mention any of the past events, not even uttering the name of Mr. Misfortune, and directly asked Amberser how to cooperate.
In Domino Lauri’s view, the reason Amberser made her identity public, attracting all her enemies, was definitely not to eliminate them and then print money from it. Facing this Deceiver who could even fool a Deity, Domino Lauri had long since abandoned the idea of being sneaky and just wanted to negotiate benefits in the simplest and most direct way possible.
"Hell really does forge people," Amberser mused and then discussed employment with Domino Lauri.
The group of Tifflin that descended to Hell, now only fifty thousand survived.
Although their numbers had dwindled, after being tempered by the flames of war, they had become a well-known force on the battlefield of the Blood War. Moreover, since they had received numerous commendations, the area of the battlefield that Domino Lauri was responsible for included a "shortcut" leading directly to the Blood River Fortress.
This privilege was a gift from Duke Bayer; when facing an overwhelmingly powerful enemy, a small portion of them could use this shortcut to quickly retreat to the Blood River Fortress for safety. On ordinary days, this shortcut could also serve as a route for transporting vital supplies.
Only those forces that truly had earned their stripes on the battlefield of the Blood War received such a "reward."
This was the shortcut that Melina encountered the Cambion on when she went to Hell; the shortcut that the Cambion mentioned was the one controlled by Domino Lauri’s transportation channel. But at the time, the Cambion was just bragging; he had no connections with Domino Lauri, merely having dealt with low-ranking soldiers of that force and knew of such a shortcut, yet couldn’t guarantee actual access to it.
In the end, Domino Lauri received a sizable loan from Amberser, enough for her entire force to re-equip. What Domino Lauri had to give in return was minimal—just a bit of interest—surprising her, as it seemed unlike Amberser to be so easy to negotiate with.
Concerned that Amberser might have other traps prepared, Domino Lauri repeatedly confirmed the terms with him.
Amberser was too lazy to discuss further; for him, Domino Lauri was just a nail planted on the battlefield of the Blood War, not very useful yet, but better than nothing.
What truly interested Amberser was another piece of news just received. Upon hearing it, he promptly ignored Domino Lauri.
One of those three names finally had some news attached to it.
Salvador, the Clerk of the Second Layer of Hell!
