Chapter 629: Chapter 557: Is it that exciting?
Melina’s territory gradually became bustling.
Not only because here lay the richest Soul Fragment resources within thousands of kilometers, but more importantly, the Lord here did not seem to be the traditional kind of devil.
She was actually quite nice.
This was the evaluation of Melina by most devils.
Although the "tax" of the territory was not cheap, the rules of this territory were transparent, and there had been no instances of "talk about rules and I’ll write you one right now."
Such things sound ridiculous, isn’t this what normal people should be able to do? But remember, this is Hell.
Among those who descended into Hell, perhaps some were wronged, but those who were wronged often didn’t live long. Those who could still survive in Hell must be criminals of the worst kind, with crimes so numerous they couldn’t be fully recorded; things like murder and arson might not even rank here in Hell.
In this place where everyone was wicked, there was actually a Lord willing to abide by rules.
It wasn’t that there were none, but it was extremely rare.
With resources, enough to eat, and a Lord who was easy to talk to, such good places easily attracted a large number of wilderness wanderers. Just give them a taste of Soul Fragment, and many devils would choose to stay in the territory temporarily. Although taxes had to be paid on time, this place was really rich, much easier to find food than in the wilderness, and there was no need to risk one’s life for it.
Private fights were strictly prohibited in Melina’s territory, whether it was active Provocation or self-defense, once discovered, the consequence was expulsion at the least and death at the most. This rule was domineering and unreasonable, but it was still clearly written in the contract, so it wasn’t like you were being cheated.
On the other hand, prohibiting private fights was a safety guarantee for the weaker devils, which made even more lesser devils head towards Melina’s territory. Before long, an overcrowding issue arose.
With the influx of a large number of devils, occasionally there were a few who came seeking revenge on Amberser.
Melina meticulously scrutinized each one, eliminating those not on the list immediately, and dealt with those on the list according to their different significance.
There were three levels of classification; the weakest would get hands-on attention, captured first and questioned later. The second level would be dealt with through negotiation, needing to inform Amberser quickly to handle the matter. The most troublesome were the three names marked in red, which were posted in public notices, in hopes that the people concerned would see them immediately, and that Amberser would sense them at once.
When Parurier reached Melina’s territory and saw her name posted on the castle gate, a playful smile appeared on her face.
"Indeed, that bastard is deliberately exposing himself, just to draw us old enemies out," she said.
Parurier glanced at the other notices posted on the city walls.
"Line up to enter the city of your own accord, those who disrupt the order die!" This notice was posted in the most conspicuous position, visible to almost everyone at a glance.
Parurier’s eyes rolled, and she flicked a Soul Currency into the air.
"Heads, I storm in and capture that bastard! Tails, I give him a little surprise," she declared.
Parurier murmured to herself, but after catching the Soul Currency, she sighed.
It was tails up.
"Alright, looks like it will take some effort. Goddess of Fate, I’ll listen to you," she murmured.
With a blink, Parurier’s appearance started to change. With just a bit of alteration, she took on an entirely different look, ensuring that Amberser would not recognize her if they met again.
Parurier looked at the long queue in front of the fortress gate and sashayed to the front.
Just as she was about to enter the queue, a Cambion at the front said loudly, "Hey, girl, get in line!"
With a face full of shock, Parurier responded, "Get in line? In Hell, we still have to queue?"
Her voice was tinged with tender surprise, making those who listened itch at heart. Many turned their attention here, and when they saw a Succubus, they started to enjoy the drama.
The Cambion was also itchy with desire, but he was not about to give way, he said loudly, "You have to get in line anywhere, don’t try to tantalize me! I’ve been in line for quite a while!"
Now everyone knew that inside this fortress was a rare "Heaven" in Hell, and everyone was desperate to get in; but as the count of devils kept growing, access to the city had been limited, with a fixed daily quota, and nobody was willing to yield.
A Succubus, after all—once inside the city, wasn’t it still easy to find one?
Parurier let out a seductive laugh, continuing to address the Cambion, "I come from the Sixth Level of Hell, I really didn’t expect the devils from the first layer of Hell to be so orderly. Sorry, I’ll just get in line behind you."
Parurier naturally took her place behind the Cambion, pushing a Little Demon further back in the process.
Little Demons were almost the weakest in Hell; a single glance from Parurier, a Succubus, left them in a daze, offering no resistance to her cutting in line.
The Cambion just looked, spat disdainfully: "Trash."
He didn’t mind, after all, it wasn’t ahead of him.
But Parurier’s act of jumping the line wasn’t just about squeezing that Little Demon back; a chain reaction affected all the devils behind her, and the queue erupted.
"What the hell? Get out!"
"You asking for death!?"
"Quick, get rid of that bitch!"
"Guard, someone is cutting in line; aren’t you supposed to maintain order?"
...
After half a day of shouting, the ears of the Cambions responsible for order at the gate of the city were buzzing and finally, a guard couldn’t stand it anymore and came over to tell Parurier, "You, no cutting—go back to the end of the line and start over."
