Chapter 611: Chapter 542 Hake Stone’s Way Out

It’s not unreasonable for Amberser to suspect a conspiracy. When he stepped out of his role as a member of the Elegy Poetry Society and took another look at the organization, he began to feel that something was inherently wrong with it.

Yeg was selecting a successor for the Grim Reaper, but what does that have to do with the undead?

Apart from Yeg, the original Grim Reaper, was there any other Grim Reaper who was undead? Including the current Grim Reaper, Kranvo, he was a human, not deified in undead form.

It was already illogical for the Elegy Poetry Society to only choose the undead. There must be some hidden factors, which Amberser could not clearly state, but with his friends’ safety at stake, Amberser felt compelled to consider the worst.

This was also the "trouble" of being reincarnated as a human; Amberser needed to start thinking about those around him, rather than treating them as a Lich would, seeing how much Gold Coin they could produce.

Hake Stone shook his head and said, "I’ve never heard of anyone leaving the Elegy Poetry Society. You’re the first one, and I don’t even know how many members there are."

Ms. Aige also shook her head and said, "Though I’ve been a member for a long time, I’ve mostly steered clear of socializing with other members of the Elegy Poetry Society, and I know very few people. However, there are indeed some names that haven’t appeared for a long time, but I can’t be certain if they have vanished or are merely in deep slumber."

That is exactly what makes the undead so troublesome.

In other organizations, if a living person hasn’t made a sound in a hundred years, you can assume they’re dead, which is probably accurate.

But with the undead, anyone could just lie down in a coffin for hundreds of years, and it’s really hard to say when they might reappear.

Since even Ms. Aige doesn’t know, Amberser decided not to inquire further, and instead, he returned to the main issue.

"I’m not saying that everyone is definitely in danger, but I think it’s best for everyone to be more cautious. If the Elegy Poetry Society was indeed established for some specific purpose, and you are all unaware of it, then it’s likely that you are not participants, but rather... expendables."

Amberser spoke very directly, but neither Hake Stone nor Ms. Aige objected.

Because, according to normal reasoning, that was indeed the case.

But Hake Stone couldn’t help asking, "How could you not tell this to Gareth?"

Amberser shook his head and said, "It’s no use telling Gareth, he just lives his life with his wife, and as long as he doesn’t act, others won’t provoke him."

Gareth wasn’t considered under normal circumstances; in the words of Ms. Aige, he was a divine power trapped in a mortal’s body.

You’d best not provoke him. If something tragic were to happen to Pale Bone, Gareth could very well unleash enough fury to destroy this Plane. Presumably, even if there were a mastermind within the Elegy Poetry Society, they wouldn’t dare to easily provoke Gareth.

Schemes and conspiracies were pointless against such reclusive powerhouses. Why force him into a frenzy of vengeful slaughter?

It was safer for Gareth to remain unaware of everything, as Amberser saw it.

"What concerns me are you all. Ms. Aige is about to ascend to deity status; once she gets past this hurdle, all should be well. Pale Bone and Gareth needn’t worry, and I can help Rose, but as for you..."

Amberser looked toward Hake Stone, this giant incarnated as a dwarf was already sweating profusely.

As Amberser had pointed out, it seemed that the most at risk within the Elegy Poetry Society was indeed him—having neither strength nor backing... If the Elegy Poetry Society was indeed playing some kind of "sacrifice" game, could he be the next to disappear?

With his heart racing, Hake Stone quickly asked, "Do you have any suggestions?"

"Don’t rush, all these are just my conjectures. Maybe the Guild Leader and the Poet are merely bored, so they gathered all these eccentrics together to pass the time watching us chat," Amberser speculated.

Hake Stone was hardly convinced, finding the conspiracy theory more and more plausible. If the Guild Leader and Poet were merely bored and wanted entertainment, why gather a group of undead who hadn’t spoken for centuries, when summoning a few Bards for a meeting would be much more amusing?

"Stop beating around the bush. Since you brought me here, you must have a solution. How much money, name your price! I’ve just made some money lately, and I’m not afraid of your outrageous demands!"

Amberser unexpectedly glanced at Hake Stone, pondering if the dwarf had unearthed yet another new tomb?

Speaking of which, when the Giant Tribe ascended to Talos’s Divine Realm, Amberser, who was blessed by Talos and had passed the ancient trials of the Giant Tribe, should, by all accounts, own the gold left behind by these giants, shouldn’t he?

Indeed, he thought to discuss this with the Dwarf Kingdom—that gold was left to him by Talos!

When faced with persistent questions from Hake Stone, Amberser didn’t broach the subject of money directly, but rather soothed him by saying, "The more anxious you are, the likelier mistakes will happen. Even if the Elegy Poetry Society indeed has some secrets, it wouldn’t result in the disappearance of a few members over thousands of years. I just left the group, and it might be another few millennia before it’s your turn."

Although Hake Stone felt this was absurd, he was somewhat calmed by it.

Amberser then continued, "We are ignorant of the secrets, so all we can do is two things: strengthen ourselves and find a strong backer. Your abilities are just so-so, and I presume you won’t progress much over a few hundred years. The Guild Leader treats all members equally, which doesn’t count as a backing, so you need to find a new backer."

"Who?" Hake Stone asked.

"Two choices, with the first, of course, being Ms. Aige."

Upon looking at the nearby Aige, Hake Stone immediately understood what Amberser meant. She was on the verge of becoming a deity, an initial possessor of a Divine Realm. If he could form a good relationship with her, perhaps he could "ascend to the Divine Country" at a critical moment.

Hake Stone hurriedly said to Aige, "Please give any orders you have."

Yet Aige appeared puzzled. She was almost a deity now and really didn’t need much; moreover, what could this Dwarf Vampire offer her? A painting, or perhaps a novel?

Amberser reminded her, "Ms. Aige, after becoming a deity, you won’t be able to directly look after your followers. The restored normal Koutoa Murlocs and the mermaids sent by Goddess Yizhuoluo will have to adapt to a new religion and new doctrines. Hake Stone might not be very capable, but he indeed possesses the best literary skill in the Elegy Poetry Society.

"Organizing and writing the doctrines; he is the most suitable candidate for that."

Amberser’s statement wasn’t an exaggeration; he had read many of Hake Stone’s related works. Although lacking in professional matters, his storytelling was truly first-rate, and he had a profound understanding of history.

As is well-known, in a world with deities, the so-called history is essentially the history concerning deities.

Hake Stone could turn straightforward and dull minor events into stirring sagas, particularly when writing hymns for deities at special times.

Hake Stone quickly said, "Exactly, exactly, I am very confident in that respect."

Aige’s eyes lit up. This was indeed a great suggestion, as she also lacked talents in that area.

Aige said to Hake Stone, "Then I’ll trouble you to help with this."

But after saying this, Aige couldn’t help but look towards Amberser; this man had really prepared everything for her, and she didn’t know how to repay him after her ascension to deity.

However, Hake Stone, the dwarf, seemed confused; having just gained Aige’s approval, he couldn’t help but ask, "You just mentioned two choices, but what about the other two?"

Amberser glanced at the dwarf, thinking, the fool, couldn’t he have asked quietly later? Just after agreeing to help Aige, he was now inquiring about the other two bosses; it was clear that he was thinking about jumping ship. After living so many years, does he not understand the basics of human relations?

In fact, Hake Stone wasn’t clueless; he was usually quite adept at these matters.

But some people are just like that; when danger strikes, their IQ plummets. No matter how calm they usually are, the moment someone points a gun at them, they can’t stop screaming, as if afraid of dying too slowly.

Hake Stone now was utterly unable to control himself and wanted only to know more of his "backup plans."

Amberser didn’t remind him but frankly stated, "The second option, well, is the same as mine, to sell oneself to Hell. What do you think?"
