Chapter 585: Chapter 521 Decisive Killing
Melina was not a very clever child, and she knew this all too well.
It seemed she was not naturally suited for deep thinking. Complex numbers and issues of the human heart were not as interesting to Melina as swinging a sword directly and simply.
But Melina was also an obedient child; since her parents had told her to be careful of being deceived, she decided not to listen to anyone.
The Flaming Longsword summoned the Gates of Hell and thirteen powerful Cambions as followers.
As Melina stepped through the fiery portal into Hell, the overwhelming scent of sulfur and blood caught her by surprise.
It wasn’t unpleasant; it was shocking.
The sky of Hell was a dark red, with flaming meteors constantly streaking across, the ground was shattered and broken, dry corpses were everywhere, and shattered soul fragments drifted all around.
This was Hell, after all, where sinners bear their torments; naturally, it would not be a picturesque place.
The thirteen Cambions first knelt respectfully before Melina, as it was Zariel’s presence that had summoned them.
The Cambions were tall, and each of these half-demon, half-human beings had crimson skin, horns on their heads, and wings on their backs. Melina couldn’t tell much difference between them at a glance.
And when these Cambions saw Melina, they all showed a variety of strange expressions.
Disdain, amusement, sneers, and so on.
In the eyes of these Cambions, ordinary Melina seemed like a little girl who had casually come upon a Divine Artifact and was using it recklessly.
Bullying the kind and fearing the strong was one of the behavioral codes of devils; if the one summoning them was not powerful enough, they would not hesitate to devour them.
Melina appeared easy to bully, and immediately a Cambion with an unsteady temperament approached with a smile.
"Beautiful lady, please allow me to introduce myself, my name is..."
This Cambion had a handsome face, which in the next second was flattened by Melina’s fist, sending him spinning through the air.
The other Cambions were stunned. What was she doing? Not even allowing someone to finish speaking?
Just as the other Cambions began to feel a sense of shared resentment, Melina had already drawn her sword. The burning Hellfire caused these half-blooded devils to instinctively step back.
The Cambion who was punched and sent flying, though his teeth were clenched in pain, ultimately could only shut his mouth and lower his head. They were devils summoned to serve, and until they could successfully turn against their summoner, they were slaves to Melina.
Under the rules, they could not harm Melina.
Seeing that she had intimidated this group of devils, Melina raised her left hand and said to the little mirror in her palm, "Mother, they are subdued now."
It was Withered Rose who had been giving remote commands, telling Melina to give them a sign of dominance. That smiling Cambion was unlucky to move in just to get beaten by Melina.
Through the Magic Mirror in Melina’s hand, Withered Rose watched the scene unfold and then told Melina, "Let one of them come over."
Melina didn’t understand the meaning, but without asking, she simply pointed at the Cambion she had just punched and said, "You, roll over here!"
The Cambion, holding his nose, cautiously approached Melina and asked, "What are your orders, Master?"
His words were submissive, but inside, the Cambion was thinking of every possible way to get revenge.
"Melina, take out the Magic Scroll and create a Silence Barrier to isolate the other Cambions; then place the Magic Mirror by his ear so I can speak with him," Withered Rose instructed.
Melina did as she was told, finding the Silence Barrier among the stack of Magic Scrolls and enveloping the remaining twelve Cambions within it.
Within the Silence Barrier, sound could neither be made nor transmitted. To most Spellcasters, being muted was equivalent to being stripped of magic since No-spell Casting wasn’t a skill just anyone could master.
But Withered Rose wasn’t trying to prevent these Cambions from casting spells.
As the Magic Mirror was brought to the injured Cambion’s ear, Withered Rose asked, "How do we find Zariel, and in which direction is His palace? Answer my question in the softest voice you can manage; but apart from your mouth, if you so much as blink, I will pluck your head off."
The Cambion was startled, having not expected that the girl in front of him was just a puppet and the real "master" was in the mirror. Moreover, by just one look at this master’s expression, it was clear she was not to be trifiled with.
"I promise not to lie, but getting to the duke’s official residence might be difficult. We are in the wilderness of the first layer of hell, at least two thousand kilometers from your destination. Between here and there lie the territories of three Hell Lords, not to mention the vast Blood River... You must have heard of the Blood River, right? The eternal and unending battle is fought right here, and only by crossing this battlefield can one possibly reach the duke’s territory."
Withered Rose asked the same question three times, and the answers didn’t vary.
Thinking he had passed the test, the Cambion watched as Withered Rose gave the order, "Throw him into the barrier, and bring out another to ask again. If the response is different, execute both!"
The Cambion, whose nose was still bleeding, widened his eyes in shock. This was even more malicious than a devil!
He was sure he hadn’t lied, but what if the other Cambion played tricks?
If Melina had summoned the Cambion in another plane, he wouldn’t have been scared because, due to the laws of magic, devils can’t leave hell at will. Mostly they exist as projected avatars in other planes. If an avatar is killed, it would at most damage their vitality, but in reality
But now, they were in hell.
If killed here, one would be truly dead!
However, his protests were meaningless. Melina grabbed him by the neck and threw him into the barrier, then with a gentle wave of her hand, the barrier grew numerous vines shimmering with blue light that captured another Cambion.
This Cambion tried to struggle but found himself completely enfeebled after being entwined by the blue branches, unable to summon any of his magic power.
Even in hell, Melina could still summon the Whispering Tree, which still possessed a powerful anti-magic effect.
If Gareth was affected by it, let alone a mere group of Cambions.
The Cambion dragged over by the Whispering Tree was asked the same questions, but visibly, this one had not completely let go of his rebelliousness, pointing in a random direction—which was the territory of a particularly brutal Hell Lord.
After questioning him several times, Withered Rose concluded that this Cambion’s inconsistent answers were most likely lies.
With a nonchalant tone, Withered Rose said, "Kill him."
Melina did not hesitate, stabbing the Cambion’s heart with her sword.
The fresh blood that burned with hellfire emitted an extremely foul stench. The Cambion started to thrash wildly, but within a few seconds, went completely silent.
"Good," Withered Rose continued to command, "Pluck his hair and transmit it to me."
The Magic Mirror could carry out transdimensional positioning and transport. Amberser previously conducted trade with the Impure Chant this way, utilizing the Magic Mirror for transdimensional material transfer.
Although the Magic Mirror Melina held was quite small, it could transmit a single strand of hair without a problem.
As soon as Melina transmitted the Cambion’s hair to Gloomyland, Withered Rose grasped the hair and activated her Legendary Grace power.
Gaze of Death, any living creature she perceived and locked onto could be transformed into Undead, and the body of the Cambion was still very fresh.
Unfortunately, such transformation required perception-based locking.
Through the Magic Mirror, Withered Rose could only "see" the images sent from the mirror, unable to use her own senses to lock onto things in hell, which meant she needed Melina to send her some part of the Cambion.
The transformation of the body was swift, and in just a few seconds, the freshly deceased Cambion turned into a Zombie.
The body of a half-blood Devil was very robust, and the Zombie possessed formidable combat strength, although one couldn’t expect any intelligence. It was only suitable to serve as high-level cannon fodder.
Having dealt with the lying Cambion, Melina looked back at the barrier.
Her mother had just said, if the two Cambions gave different answers, both would be executed.
That Cambion with the broken nose... wait, why did several of the Cambions inside also have broken noses?
Melina was shocked to see the group of Cambions fighting amongst themselves, with five Cambions covered in blood.
Damn, which one was it before? She could no longer recognize them.
