Chapter 566: Chapter 505 Coming Soon
Amid all the attention, while everyone was focused on the meeting at hand,
Amberser, the very core figure in this, lay atop a huge pile of gold coins, utterly enjoying the sensation of being buried in them.
However, the others couldn’t remain as composed as Amberser.
Harvey and the recently apprenticed Selwyn were standing by helplessly, looking at their teacher’s posture that was devoid of any semblance of dignity.
Selwyn couldn’t help but poke Harvey in the waist, signaling with her eyes.
Even though Selwyn was decades older than Harvey, Harvey had been an apprentice longer, so, as the senior apprentice, it was natural that he should speak up first in this awkward situation.
However, Harvey didn’t speak; he just stood there quietly until Selwyn couldn’t help but ask softly, "Is our teacher always like this?"
Harvey helplessly replied, "Occasionally... occasionally, I guess."
"How long will it last?"
"We’ll just have to wait."
"Alright then."
...
Hearing the whispers of his two students, Amberser climbed out from the pile of gold and then promptly absorbed all the coins into the Golden Throne.
The Golden Throne had been distorted by the faith of the Kuotuo Murloc and was still an ugly and bizarre shape; even though it was brilliantly golden, it was still quite unsightly.
But Amberser didn’t mind. No matter the shape of the gold, its essence was the same, much like Amberser himself, whose will and pursuit of the eternal remained unchanged.
After collecting the massive amount of gold coins he had recently earned, Amberser then said to his two students, "Aren’t you two supposed to be working instead of standing around watching me lie around like a corpse? Have you completed all your tasks?"
Looking at Harvey and seeing him nod, Selwyn then answered, "Teacher, the facilities on the island are nearly finished, and the first batch of sales staff has become quite proficient. The goblins sent by the dwarves all have decent fundamental skills and quickly grasped the sales plan you devised. However, those goblins all want to meet you in person and have requested that you give them a speech."
Amberser was very pleased with Selwyn, the new student who was older and much more competent than Harvey at handling various tasks on the island.
Moreover, no matter their path, Diviner Mages possess a strong intuition, and combined with the ability to communicate persuasively, they have a definitive advantage in interactions with others.
No wonder Aldalian had said Selwyn would be a great help; indeed, she had solved many troubles for Amberser.
But just the mention of the goblins made Amberser slightly disdainful.
"Goblins are no good. While some of them are clever at business, they lack principles and often cause a mess, expecting others to clean up after them. So don’t interact too much with those goblins. The best way to handle them is to use them and discard them when done."
Selwyn agreed with Amberser’s assessment. If it weren’t for the shortage of hands, she couldn’t stand the smell of goblins wandering back and forth in front of her.
Their eyes were only on gold coins, often handling them dishonestly. Selwyn had no choice but to resort to harsh measures to put a stop to those "under-the-table deals." Otherwise, these goblins would dare to sell Amberser’s products as their own and then report them as "losses."
While the goblins didn’t need attention, other matters did.
Selwyn told Amberser, "Teacher, I’ve arranged for your friends already."
"Oh? So soon?"
The members of the Elegy Poetry Society had arrived, and though Amberser had been too engrossed in the pleasure of lying on the gold coins, it was time to get up and tend to serious matters.
Amberser said to his students, "You two go ahead with your tasks."
As Selwyn left the gold vault, Harvey, who had purposely lagged behind, suddenly turned back and asked Amberser seriously, "Teacher, you’ve been acting out of sorts lately. I have a question and I need you to not lie to me... Have you seen the day of your end?"
Amberser looked at Harvey, puzzled, and said, "Has all this work failed to keep your idle thoughts in check?"
"This isn’t idle thought, Teacher. Don’t forget that I’m also a Diviner Mage, and... my talent is stronger than yours. It’s not just that you’ve seen your future, I have as well."
"And then what? You still ask knowing?"
"But..."
Amberser said with a smile, "Who was it that boasted, if they saw they were going to die the next day, they would calmly read their notes, write a farewell letter, and then wait for the end? Now it isn’t even you who’s dying, and you’re getting so worked up you can’t control yourself?"
"I..."
Harvey was at a loss for words. The Lich who had once been so desperate to escape fate, had he now calmly accepted his end?
Harvey couldn’t help but say, "Teacher, maybe we could try it, using the method you used to save me! I could join forces with Selwyn..."
"Shut up, Harvey!"
Amberser sternly warned, "Selwyn doesn’t know about that method. Do you want to erase her only chance of being saved?"
A Diviner Mage who sees their death in the future can only be saved by another Diviner Mage reversing the past. But once you know about this method, reversing the past loses its effect.
Amberser was well aware of the flaw in the method he had devised, so he would never attempt something so pointless.
Harvey was agitated, but his clenched fists didn’t know where to strike, and he ended up reluctantly letting go.
