Chapter 555: Chapter 494: Truly Encountered a Smart Person
Amberser conscientiously made preparations for the upcoming "World Peace Conference."
In a short time, he had transformed from a poor Lich into a friend of the world. Amberser clearly felt he had bitten off more than he could chew.
His career was taking off, but the people around him couldn’t keep up.
That kid Harvey was going crazy just trying to manage Amberser’s invitation list and personnel arrangements, scratching his head so much that he’d lost dozens of hairs.
The Elf Tribe couldn’t be arranged next to Orcs. Dwarves couldn’t have rooms facing the sun, Druids needed to be near running water... Were these requirements that hard?
Somehow, the kid struggled for days without getting it right, and even with the help of a Magic Mirror for constant contact, he still hadn’t completely figured out the room assignments.
Clearly inexperienced with life’s harsh lessons, organizing a conference properly was about confirming the number of attendees and their arrival times, yet Harvey had been arguing with the Orcs for ages about whether they could bring their own barbeque.
Idiot. If they keep arguing like this, the Dwarves will start insisting on constructing their own accommodations.
However, after only a couple of comments from Amberser, it was up to the kid to figure it out for himself.
Amberser was surrounded by research talents but lacked someone to handle these petty chores efficiently. He should have hired someone, but there was never time.
The conference location had been set at the former Kingdom of Impure Hymns, which was now an ocean, but Amberser had altered the terrain to create a huge island.
This place would not only serve as the venue for the conference but would later be redeveloped into a nearshore trading center.
Products from the Dragon Race and various treasures from the sea depths produced by the Fury Tide Kingdom would be brought to this island, making it a new hub for commerce and tourism.
This worldwide peace conference would bring fame to the island. If they could make a strong impression on the leaders of these kingdoms during the conference, they wouldn’t be short of orders thereafter.
Therefore, Amberser paid extra attention to the construction of the island. This opportunity to advertise was definitely not to be missed.
Luckily, Liches don’t need sleep, so he could meticulously follow the construction of the island from start to finish.
Although there was plenty of time, taking things lightly would lead to losses. So, Amberser was now even more focused on this than studying to counter the Magic Dragons in the Connected Dream Realm.
After walking around the island a couple of times, Amberser pointed at the venue and said to several artisans from the Fury Tide Kingdom, "This will display the magical materials of the Dragon Race. It must be shocking, who would be intimidated by a giant dragon model only ten meters tall? Would the Elven King or Dwarf King be shocked by such a petty model?"
"But that’s about the size of giant dragons."
The people from the Fury Tide Kingdom had seen Giant Dragons. The younger generation of dragons was somewhat malnourished, roughly that size.
Amberser, however, waved his hand dismissively, and the ground heaved as he sculpted rock formations with his hands.
A hundred-meter Giant Dragon appeared before everyone.
The astonished artisan said, "Sir, isn’t this dragon too large? Even the greatest dragons aren’t so big!"
"The Dragon Race hasn’t appeared for a thousand years. Who remembers how big they were? This is an exhibition hall for advertising. Do you understand advertising? It’s about leaving a striking impression at first glance. One look and people think the products here are of high quality, cost-effective, and have excellent results!"
Amberser was a bit irritated; these people didn’t grasp the most basic marketing strategies. He had to hand-hold and teach them one by one.
Just as he was about to proceed to the next exhibition hall, Amberser saw a handsome Elf dressed in an emerald green robe appear before him.
Amberser greeted the elegantly demeanored but gloomy-faced Elf, "Yo, Elven King... Your Majesty, what brings you here?"
"Hmph, could I afford not to come? You’ve even brought out the Magic Dragons."
Though his tone was unpleasant and his face unsightly, he could still make the passing women turn their heads frequently.
Amberser expressed his dissatisfaction, "There’s no need to wear a mask if there’s nothing wrong. Don’t hinder others’ normal work. Do you know how much money I pay these people in a day?"
Aldalian glared at Amberser and said angrily, "This is exactly why I must come here. You Lich are only thinking about money! Do you realize what you are doing, and the consequences of unveiling the identity of the Magic Dragon?"
"It means that everyone will join forces to deal with the Magic Dragon."
Amberser asserted naturally, "Initially, with the entire Dragon Race backing it, our ancestors also strived to kill the Magic Dragon. Now that our entire continent is without dragons, save for one Magic Dragon, are we still unable to defeat it?"
Aldalian stared at Amberser and said, "Then you will become the great hero who exposed the Magic Dragon’s identity. After killing the Magic Dragon, you will shift the blame to Laine, forcing the Laine People to compensate for the losses caused by the wars all these years, and then you’ll nominate your puppet, Allen Watson, as the new Emperor of Laine. After that, you can take control of this vast empire under the guise of collecting debts or rebuilding Laine, turning it into your money-making machine! Am I right, the great New Holy King, Master Ultraman?"
Amberser fell silent for a moment before saying, "Back then, when you were tricked out of money by me, you were playing along with me, weren’t you?!"
Aldalian nearly couldn’t resist striking the Lich with his sword, grinding his teeth as he said, "I won’t always be the naive and innocent child I was. The world’s intelligence isn’t limited to just you!"
Amberser, however, asked curiously, "Why prevent it? Young Elven King, how does this harm you and your Elf Tribe?"
However, Aldalian said, "Because your greed is endless. After gaining control of Laine’s finances, you will extend your reach to other kingdoms. The Fury Tide Kingdom has already become your moneybag, the Overseas Dragon Clan your livestock, the Dwarf Kingdom, Emerald Dream Forest... When will you start on the Elf Tribe? Greed for wealth is your obsession; you will never be satisfied in your lifetime. You will only lead the world to destruction after seizing all wealth."
"Who do you think is the Magic Dragon, in my eyes? Is it the Time Dragon that has managed to hold on until now, no one knows how much strength it has recovered. It’s you; you are the greatest devil of this world, and you will surely drag everyone into The Abyss."
Amberser quickly waved his hand and said, "This slippery slope fallacy of yours is a bit much. I’m just making some money; how did you get around to saying I’ll destroy the world."
Aldalian sneered as he said, "The wealth of the world has its limits. There is only so much Gold, and you won’t accept Gold going into someone else’s pocket. You’ll just aim to have all the wealth for yourself; such is your obsession. Can you, a Lich, change that?"
Amberser really wanted to roll his eyes, but his Skeleton head couldn’t perform the action, so he could only shrug to express his speechlessness.
"Your Majesty, you understand me well, but you don’t really get economics. Have you ever heard the phrase, ’Gold and silver are not naturally currency, but currency is naturally gold and silver’?"
"What are you babbling about?"
Aldalian originally thought Amberser wanted to quibble, that it was just some roundabout nonsense, but after thinking it over carefully for a moment, he suddenly felt something was off, that the sentence seemed to have a deeper meaning.
Amberser continued, "Gold and silver existed before the intelligent Races appeared. When no one used them, gold and silver were just gold and silver, not wealth. They became currency because of their rarity and ease of storage and transport. Then, do you think there could be something else with purchasing power, just as convenient to store and carry, that could replace gold and silver?"
Aldalian quickly caught the key point and retorted, "That’s meaningless. No matter what name gold and silver are given, or if you cast some other metal into Gold Coins, the outcome is the same. Seizing all the wealth is your goal, and you will never be satisfied. When your wealth reaches a certain proportion, the world will collapse."
"I prefer to call it wealth redistribution," Amberser shook his head, "Your Majesty, you always get something wrong. Nothing in this world is uncollapsible, including those kingdoms. The Magic Dragon’s rule collapsed, Laine is about to collapse, Tide Fury Kingdom as well; it has already lost its economic autonomy. Even Deities will fall. What eternal are you chasing after?
"Even if I do plunder all the wealth in the world one day, the wealth in my hands will be meaningless because others will no longer use my Gold for transactions. By then, someone will either take me down or someone else will rebuild another economic system to become my new adversary.
"To put it in terms used by your Elf Tribe, the moon has its phases and no one’s tide of fate always runs high. We progress through competition and collapse through strife, but eventually, we will head towards a future set by fate. One day, capital will become a behemoth that towers over nations, a monster that will begin devouring people on its own, including me on its hunting list."
Aldalian was shocked by the future painted by Amberser, smart enough to imagine the terrifying scenario, but he quickly shook his head and said, "You almost took me on a detour, but I’m talking about now! Why should I let you swallow Laine and threaten the Elf Tribe?!"
"Why should our Elf Tribe help you, a Lich, loot everything in Laine? Even if the Magic Dragon is revived, at worst we will completely seal off the Silvermoon Tribunal. The Elven Gods are about to win the divine war, the return of the Drow Elves is a done deal, and once Sister Catherine becomes the new deity of the Drow, what does the Silvermoon Tribunal have to be afraid of? Mana Addiction Disease? I’m not Sister Catherine, I can sacrifice all elves afflicted with the disease for the protection of the Gods, and I dare say that the Elven Gods will support my decision."
Amberser was stunned for a moment and asked, "Then what do you mean, Your Majesty?"
"My Elf Tribe wants half!" declared Aldalian firmly.
Amberser: ...
Damn it, this time I’ve truly encountered someone clever.
