Chapter 553: Chapter 492: Pure Conspiracy Pure Evil
Deities always stay aloof, and their thoughts are unfathomable to mortals.
But in reality, deities share many similarities with mortals, and only by setting aside their reverence and treating deities with a common mindset can one possibly deduce everything related to them.
However, due to long-term cultural influences, deities always seem unreachable, to the point where the idea of treating them as equals is considered blasphemous.
"Perhaps, it is precisely for this reason that the deities have become overly arrogant, to the extent that they are easily deceived by mortals. Don’t you agree, Shael?"
A voice with a barbed tone echoed in the dim temple.
The barely recovered Shael opened her eyes, only to be surprised that her Divine Realm had been invaded by another deity.
Although the invader hadn’t entered the Divine Realm directly, their Divine Power had already infiltrated, enabling them to transmit their voice directly into Shael’s ears.
Shael sneered and said, "So it’s you! Since you’ve already found my Divine Realm, why not come in and sit for a while?"
The eerie voice let out a strange laugh before replying, "Even a weakened Dark Goddess is immensely powerful within her own Divine Realm. I simply sensed the scent of conspiracy and decided to have a few words with you."
"Conspiracy? That excuse is utterly ridiculous."
As the Dark Goddess Shael, she was constantly conspiring to kill Serene and the Magic Goddess in order to take their places. Since her Divine Power was reduced, Shael had never stopped engaging in deceitful plots.
Being thoroughly enmeshed in conspiracy herself, did she still need to wait until now to discover it?
"No, this time it’s different. Shael, all your previous calculations, all your conspiracies, were about seizing the powers of other deities for your vengeance. But what about this time? This time you’re not doing it for your own benefit; you’re simply out to harm others, regardless of whether you win or lose.
"Oh, such a pure evil thought it excites me."
Shael made a face of disgust and said mockingly, "I merely sought vengeance on that Lich, and here you are, coming to me. Don’t tell me you’re looking to collaborate?"
"Of course, as you know, I enjoy such devious plots. But it’s still lacking something—Kalsass’s Deification Magic is nowhere near enough."
Shael, no longer mocking, became somewhat curious and asked, "You want to intervene?"
"Indeed, but not just me. Shael, you’re not the only deity with a grudge against him. There are so many deities who would love nothing more than for that Lich to die."
Shael, however, retorted, "But what does that have to do with you? Do you have a grudge against this mortal? You should be well aware that everyone who has dabbled in conspiracy with him has met with terrible defeat, and even deities haven’t fared any better."
"That’s precisely why I want to get involved. As I said earlier, the reason for your disastrous losses is because your conspiracies aren’t pure enough. A conspiracy that’s purely to harm is sufficient. When you add self-interest into the mix, it leads to more calculations and more flaws.
"Shael, when you no longer wish to gain from your schemes, you won’t lose, not ever. It’s the same with lies. When you deceive not to gain anything, you never have to worry about being exposed because it doesn’t matter if you are; you can just continue with the next lie, the next plot.
"And as long as you succeed once, you’ve won. We are Deities, and Deities should be like this, not lose so thoroughly over a bet with mortals."
"Everyone says you’ve gone mad, and I thought it was just a rumor before, but now it seems you truly have. Do you realize what incident that Lich is involved in? The Deity Position of the Grim Reaper is about to be replaced, do you want to give Kranvo an excuse to kill you?" Shael spoke coldly.
Before accusing me, have you ever considered what you’ve done? That is Kalsass’s Deification Technique, are you not also inciting strife between the Magic Goddess and the Grim Reaper? If so, what difference does one more make to me?"
Shael rebutted with increasing displeasure, "If that’s the case, why tell me? Do whatever you want to do, I’ve long since stopped caring. The Dark Web is the last chip I have to play, you don’t need to tell me what you want to do with it."
The voice in the darkness let out a series of grating laughter.
"Hahaha, Shael, you really didn’t listen to me, did you? I never needed your consent in the first place, nor do I need you to join me. I was simply letting you know, I too am arranging my plans. Pure conspiracy needs no profit, it only needs an audience."
"And you are one of them, I hope you enjoy the upcoming plot."
This malicious voice slowly faded away as if it had truly come just to chat with Shael, merely to inform her to watch the play.
After carefully checking to make sure that the invasion of alien divine powers had vanished, Shael taunted, "No interest, just for the sake of conspiracy? You can deceive yourself with those words, but if you don’t act soon, your Deity Position will be snatched away by that Lich."
"I’ve already given all the knowledge of the Dark Web to the Poet. If he wants to tamper with anything, he is sure to clash with Yeg. Ah, this plot feels like we’ve gone back to before Kranvo became the Grim Reaper."
Suddenly, Shael felt an irresistible urge to laugh. Since accepting her defeat, she had completely distanced herself from the matter. When a Deity admits defeat, one can simply hide in the Divine Realm and act as if nothing happened. This is where Deities are superior to mortals, who cannot detach themselves and are swept up by the world’s changes, pushed forward by the tides of the times.
But for Deities, if you’re restrained enough, you can easily enjoy the show.
Especially for a Deity like Shael who had hardly any followers, the only things truly constraining her were her unwillingness and greed. Shael was now looking forward to it, whether this Deity was really as she said, her schemes never failing, never getting hurt.
Shael even anticipated with eagerness her "sisters" like Rose and Rowetta being stirred up by this Deity, opposing the Lich again and then one by one being cast down from their thrones, just like the Deities who fell during those turbulent years.
Only, Shael had misjudged the process.
After departing from Shael’s Divine Realm, this enigmatic shadow didn’t seek out other Deities with grudges against Amberser, but instead transformed into a pale-faced, dark-browed Elf and silently arrived in the Imperial Capital of the Laine Empire.
Centuries of devotion should have turned into Holy Light, eternally scanning all parts of the Imperial Capital, allowing no evil to invade. Yet this power completely failed to detect the avatar of this Deity, who appeared in the deepest reaches of the Royal Palace and met with His Majesty the Emperor of Laine, who was perusing the battle reports.
Upon sensing this unwelcome visitor, the Dragon Emperor instantly enveloped the surroundings with the Power of Time. However, just as the Dragon Emperor prepared to use the Power of Time to teach this assassin a lesson, he found his powers to be ineffective against him.
The Dragon Emperor became instantly alert and said, "May I know which Deity’s avatar has graced Laine? You should know that this is the domain favored by the Lord of the Dawn."
The pallid man laughed and said, "Don’t scare me with that, if the Lord of the Dawn were to intervene, the first to be purified by the Holy Light would be you. Am I right, Atros the Eternal, once the Dragon King of Time?"
