Chapter 545: Chapter 488: Kidnapping the Bride Operation

The Grim Reaper—this is a truly unique divine position.

Among the many powerful divine powers, the Grim Reaper is the most special because this position is the most frequently changed.

But it is not because the Grim Reaper is too weak; on the contrary, it is a powerful position that truly dates back to ancient times, existing even before the Magic Goddess was born.

Even a mere insect, if it inherits this deity position, becomes the top deity.

After all, who can kill the God of Death?

Therefore, the shift in the Grim Reaper often comes not from death, but from stepping down.

This tradition, established by the first Grim Reaper, was simple: get bored, then change. However, generally, those who took over did not perform well, leading to frequent changes and even splitting the deity position into several parts.

Such tricky moves were indeed unseen by other deities.

The current Grim Reaper also ascended from a mortal, and his name is Kranvo.

As a powerful deity in charge of such a special and crucial position as death, his talents and wisdom seem not quite up to the task.

After all, his habitual action is—recklessness!

Among all the past Grim Reapers, Kranvo truly was the type to recklessly throw his avatars into the Endless Abyss for a grand slaughter.

In dealing with the deceased, he can be lauded as "fair," but he is far from clever.

Kranvo retained too many of his mortal emotions, to the extent that he once considered dismantling the Wall of the Faithless—the wall where all faithless mortals are stuffed after death, and also the most crucial deterrent compelling mortals to seek protection from the deities.

With the Wall of the Faithless, the Divine Realm seemed extremely precious.

But Kranvo, thinking from a mortal’s perspective, felt this simply forced a lack of choice on mortals, which was unacceptable; he resolved to dismantle it.

Had he not been stopped later, Kranvo might have even alarmed Aeo, causing the God above Gods to slap him.

There are many such stories. While Kranvo made no grave mistakes, he did have numerous minor flaws.

However, in recent years, Kranvo has become much more low-key, becoming as unassuming as the first Grim Reaper, living reclusively, and seldom heard from anymore.

Kranvo became so discreet that even other planes no longer received news of him; perhaps most modern mortals don’t even know the name of the Grim Reaper is Kranvo.

The God of Alchemy, even when he was still mortal, had never heard of him until he was elevated to deity and learned these many tidbits of information.

Staying at home alone is not really strange.

Most deities are reclusive, hiding in their Divine Realms for hundreds or even thousands of years without moving; it is common. The Grim Reaper does not need faith; death itself is the grandest concept, providing an endless source of power, so seclusion does not affect him.

But when the Guild Leader of the Elegy Poetry Society makes a move, it becomes a different story.

Because the Mourner is none other than the original Grim Reaper—Yeg.

It was this venerable gentleman who initiated the forfeiting system for the Grim Reaper position. After resigning, he then assisted successive Grim Reapers as a deputy. Whenever the incumbent Grim Reaper could not fulfill the responsibilities, Yeg would find a way to replace him.

Although he gave up the power brought by the divine position, Yeg could still manipulate these successors with ease. Though the other Gods didn’t know the details, they saw the outcomes.

Yeg remained that same Yeg, but the Grim Reapers kept changing.

When the God of Alchemy was preparing to promote Amberser to Less God, it was Yeg who came knocking, asking him to wait.

Yeg didn’t specify what to wait for or how long, simply sincerely requesting the God of Alchemy to postpone promoting his student.

Without hesitation, the God of Alchemy agreed, having no choice but to comply.

On the surface, Yeg was no longer a deity, at most a clerk under the Grim Reaper.

But everyone knew that the venerable gentleman seldom spoke, but when he did, it certainly meant something significant.

The God of Alchemy guessed that it was because of Yeg’s secret plan that Amberser, despite causing much trouble, had not yet received an invitation from Aeo.

This was a senior who even Aeo had to give face to.

However, the Goddess of Wealth had some doubts.

"Is Kranvo really going to be brought down by Yeg? I recall they had a good relationship,"

The God of Alchemy said helplessly, "It’s just a guess. They indeed have a good relationship. Kranvo was mentored by Yeg when he was still a mortal and was eventually elevated by him to the position of the God of Death. Although Kranvo is not very clever, he has still diligently avoided any major mistakes. Given Yeg’s character, it would not be likely to replace him unless there is some other reason."

Kranvo has been out of sight for a very long time, and that venerable gentleman must have been planning for quite some time. Although curious, the God of Alchemy didn’t inquire further, as he had no right to interrogate Yeg. The God of Alchemy could only silently pray to Aeo, hoping his student would have better luck. Whether or not he becomes the Grim Reaper isn’t important; what’s crucial is that he isn’t completely destroyed by being involved in such significant matters.

It doesn’t matter if the student has no prospects; a teacher always has a place by his side to ensure his student is well-fed, but it’s worrisome that this young man has been marked and cannot keep a low profile.

"Alas, it seems that I can’t bless your student either. If I get involved now, it will only make your student more conspicuous and vulnerable to danger,"

The Goddess of Wealth felt extremely regretful, having finally found a most suitable Chosen of God but could only watch. The Goddess of Wealth had many enemies and her own power was too weak, so she had to stay hidden. The blessings she could offer Amberser were negligible, not only failing to provide much help but also likely putting Amberser in danger due to her involvement.

"It doesn’t matter, after all, he is a Lich; he won’t mind this delay. Given his nature, commerce will flourish in the coming years, and your power will grow rapidly."

The Goddess of Wealth cheered up and firmly stated, "Exactly, I will also try to help him a bit. In the coming years, his business will be much smoother than others, that’s my promise."

"Well, it’s about time. I am now heading to the Water Elemental Plane."

The God of Alchemy crammed a vast array of differently shaped objects into his mechanical backpack, a small space seemingly containing an entire castle. For working for Amberser, the God of Alchemy had practically emptied his entire household.

As the Space Gate opened, the God of Alchemy stepped into that azure world.

Meanwhile, three Archdukes of the Devils in Hell also received the message; the Hellish Army was already assembled, only waiting for the God of Alchemy to lure out the Koutao Mermaid Goddess. The three Archdukes would hesistate no more and pounce to capture the Goddess alive.

Such a significant event had already resonated with many deities, even before the battle had officially commenced.

Movements in Hell affected countless planes, and with the leaders of the first and third layers of Hell both mobilized, this fact could hardly be concealed.

Not to mention Talos, the loudmouth.

Eager for excitement and sensing the stirrings in Hell, he immediately understood the situation and rang the doomsday disaster bell in the Tower of Ruins within his Divine Realm, the sound echoing across the heavens.

The bell’s sound, imbued with smugness and arrogance, as well as the context of the situation,

had informed almost all who heard it—Hell’s deployment of three Archdukes was to aid Talos in a forceful bridal quest.

The Lord of the Storm, terrifying as such, actually had the Archdukes of Hell aiding Him in snatching a wife?!

The Lord of the Storm laughed boisterously, with thunder unceasing in His Divine Realm!

But the God of Alchemy and those three Archdukes were seething with anger.

This Talos would really spoil things! Kidnapping a Goddess was already disgraceful; without external knowledge, others would have to speculate about Hell’s motives, worrying about unwittingly falling into a trap and getting killed.

By exposing the matter, Talos had left no secrets unturned. The absence of mystery turned the situation into whether or not the deities bearing grudges against Hell would take action.

What if the Lord of the Dawn, the God of Justice, and other lawful good deities disapproved and felt compelled to intervene? Wouldn’t that be troublesome?

Accidentally starting a war between Hell and the forces of good would be disastrous!

The three Archdukes of Hell quickly located the God of Alchemy. With the situation at a critical point, they needed to discuss whether to withdraw temporarily or continue, to decide a course of action.

The God of Alchemy was also indecisive at the moment; he wasn’t someone adept at plotting or making decisions, merely exerting effort according to the plan Amberser had previously set. Who could have expected Talos to pull such a stunt?

Zariel and Goddess Tiamat also felt it was inappropriate and advocated for a temporary retreat. After all, they had already been paid; the best outcome was to not perform the job and just earn a net profit.

Only Mammon decided without hesitation to continue and even demanded an accelerated pace.

"Now all deities are aware of our goal. If we don’t act before they can stop us, by next time even our speed advantage will be lost. What if some powerful deity decides to give Hell a hard time and recruits the Koutao Mermaid Goddess to their ranks? We would have wasted all our efforts!"

"Don’t think I don’t know what you two are thinking—just planning to take the money and do nothing. But now that all the Gods are aware of this matter, if we retreat temporarily, would we even be able to conduct business with others? Couldn’t you at least honor our contracts? This is how your reputations as Devils are tarnished."

Mammon, too, wanted to profit without effort. Theoretically, it was indeed possible, but He saw further than Zariel and Tiamat.

Everything depends on influence. When few were aware, the truth could be bent slightly and debated word for word, and all kinds of extremes could be used for victory.

But the impact was too great this time. The gods would not listen to the Devils’ explanations or what the contract stipulates.

As the greatest miser in Hell, Mammon valued the Devil’s reputation more than anyone. Devils could be cunning, malicious, and brutal, but they could never be perceived as untrustworthy. Even mere rumors or insinuations could not tarnish this reputation.

Already belonging to the Evil Camp, being said to lack a spirit of contract would make future work for the Hell Demons impossible.

If the Lord of Hell found out, skinning and flaying would be the least of their punishments.

This situation had no opportunity for turning back from the start, and Mammon, as a pure-blooded Devil, understood what a contract meant far better than any newcomer did.

The God of Alchemy understood Mammon’s intention and decisively sided with Him.

Just then, the deity rummaged through his backpack and pulled out a multitude of parts, rapidly assembling them.

In the blink of an eye, a device resembling a sonar horn was fully installed, with the modified Bone Whistle inserted by the God of Alchemy before He activated the machine.

A low, eerie tone sounded in the azure sea, spreading faster than the speed of light to every corner of the Water Elemental Plane.

Soon, a roar from the depths of the ocean came from the Koutao Mermaid Goddess: "Kill! Slay all brain-eating hybrids!"
