Chapter 508: Chapter 467 Intelligence Obtained
The Githyanki did not recognize Amber in his human form, nor did they recognize Airel and Arthur, but something felt off. The aura of the three before them was starkly different, even contradictory; could this really be a team?
But they were indeed very powerful; the elite squad they had brought had no chance to fight back at all.
Although the Githyanki were fierce and violent, they did not wish to die meaninglessly. Since these three were willing to communicate, they decided to stall for time until their other comrades arrived.
The leader of the Githyanki said to Amberser, "Who exactly are you?"
Amberser calmly replied, "Before asking someone’s identity, it’s polite to introduce oneself first; that’s the etiquette in the Prime Material Plane."
"I am the leader of Group Eight, Seventh Column of the Star Expeditionary Army. My name is General, now it’s your turn."
Amberser did not bother to remember this convoluted name and was not about to reveal his true identity. After all, he was a Lich who had slaughtered several thousand Githyanki. Therefore, Amberser responded, "I’m just a Necromancer passing by, you can call me Kel’Thuzad."
Airel glanced at Amberser. Was this Lich always so natural at using a fake name? She wondered how many times he had practiced and deceived others.
Wait, could the name Diga Ultraman also be fake?
While Airel was pondering these questions, Amberser had finished exchanging pleasantries with the Githyanki leader and had gotten a rough idea of their situation.
Only two thousand seven hundred Githyanki had managed to arrive here alive; several hundred more died passing through the Undersea Labyrinth, and by the time they reached the first altar, their numbers had dwindled to less than two thousand.
As Amberser had guessed, they initially chose the Trial of Destruction, only to lose heavily against the three Giant Puppets. Around three hundred Githyanki were killed, their flesh absorbed by the Giant Puppets.
At any other time, the Githyanki might have fought back, but they were now pushed to their limits and did not dare to confront the enemy head-on, so they could only retreat.
Normally that would be impossible, as there was no way back in the Storm Coliseum; any who shied away from the challenge would be killed by the guards of the coliseum.
But it had been deserted for many years, so their retreat was unimpeded.
Then they chose another path, the Trial of Fury, which to their surprise turned out to be unexpectedly simple. By the time they reached the first platform, all they felt was a faint psychic power influencing their thoughts, amplifying their anger.
But what of it? The Githyanki were naturally hot-tempered and irritable. This slight increase had no effect on them.
If the arena were still intact, challengers entering this platform would have been overwhelmed by uncontrollable rage, attacking each other until only the victor was left to advance to the next section.
But time is the most ruthless; most of the coliseum’s facilities had already worn away, resulting in an almost negligible effect of the Trial of Fury.
The Githyanki could finally catch their breath.
What was even more pleasing was that the coliseum was built over the sea, and the ocean surrounded each platform. Places that were supposed to be inhabited by fearsome Sea Beasts now only housed skeleton remains, and there were plenty of fish living among them.
Having a place to rest and food to eat meant, at the very least, they could breathe for a moment.
It must be said, the Githyanki’s adaptability was truly strong.
With the help of a few Mages among the survivors, they constructed their own "Nest" on the platform. The remaining thousand plus people squeezed in to live there, occasionally sending out some to scout other areas of the coliseum.
They would then discover that apart from the path of the Trial of Destruction where invincible foes lay, other areas were abandoned. Discounting those zones constantly afflicted by winds and hail, which were uninhabitable, the arena was almost as big as the small island they lived on before.
And it seemed the three Giant Puppets would never leave the thunderous area, so the Githyanki comfortably settled here. It wasn’t a long time, but it was enough for them to recover some vigor.
Nests were constructed, and Githyanki eggs were set to hatch in the Acid Pool.
Yes, the Githyanki were oviparous; they had a very special hatching method that allowed them to produce a large number of offspring in a short time.
In this brief period, the population of Githyanki which was less than two thousand had been restored to three thousand.
But that was the limit; any more and the coliseum would not be able to sustain them.
And just recently, when the ceaseless Thunder had vanished, they dispatched teams to inspect the area. This particular squad was unlucky to be the first to encounter Amberser.
Of course, this information wasn’t provided by the Githyanki themselves, but as a Diviner Mage, Amberser made it difficult for the Githyanki leader to conceal too much.
After understanding the Githyanki’s situation, Amberser thought for a moment and then said, "Take me to your leader. I have some information I’d like to inquire about. In exchange, I can..."
Before Amberser finished speaking, another group of Githyanki appeared before him.
This time, without any introduction, Amberser knew it was the Githyanki leader.
A Mage who made no effort to conceal his Magic Power, a Mage of Legendary Rank.
The Githyanki favored more tactical proportions, but to truly lead their people to survive in such a complex environment, it was the Mages with the widest array of tricks who had the advantage.
The Gith Yankee Mage brandished his magic wand aloft, with immense magic power gathering on it, and threatened Amberser, "Release my kin, or you’ll get a taste of what a Starburst is like!"
Ninth Circle Spell: Starburst, it sounded intimidating, but casting this spell in front of a Diviner Mage was simply too foolish.
Amberser just raised a finger and shot out a beam of red light, and the Legendary Mage’s face turned pale instantly, his magic wand’s power becoming chaotic.
"Spell Countering?!"
The Gith Yankee Mage was incredulous.
It was true that Spell Countering could interrupt most spellcasting, but was he not Legendary?
Reaching this realm, a Mage’s understanding of magic and control over magical power was supposed to be at an extremely high level. Normally, it was impossible to interrupt the casting of a Legendary Mage, and Spell Countering was nearly guaranteed to fail.
Was he just that unlucky to fall into that minuscule probability?
When Amberser made his move, Airel and Arthur also snapped into action.
All three Legendary figures displayed their power without restraint, imposing a vast pressure on the Gith Yankee Mages present.
Especially Airel, the terrifying electric light swirling around her was reminiscent of the old Thunders, reminding the Gith Yankee Mages of those three formidable Giant Puppets.
"Let’s all calm down, folks. I, Kel’Thuzad, and my companions didn’t come here to fight with you. I’m just here to inquire about something, and once I have the information, I will leave," Kel’Thuzad said.
Amberser’s words cooled down the leader of the Gith Yankee Mages; currently, the Gith Yankee Mages were too weak, incapable of engaging in another bloody battle - a negotiation would be far preferable.
"Master Kel’Thuzad, what information would you like to inquire about?"
Amberser spoke bluntly, "About the Heart-stealing Demons—I’m trying to find traces of these creatures and intend to capture a few for experiments. I know you Gith Yankee have harbored a grudge against them, and you’ve been hunting Heart-stealing Demons across various planes. You must have a special method to locate these monsters, right?"
Upon hearing the name Heart-stealing Demons, an expression of hatred surfaced on every Gith Yankee’s face.
The days of enslavement were an indelible grudge for the Gith Yankee Race, which could only be eradicated by the complete extinction of the Heart-stealing Demons.
"We indeed have a way to track those despicable brain-eaters, but what have you to offer in exchange?"
The Gith Yankee leader was still looking to bargain, hoping to gain some advantage from Amberser, but Amberser responded calmly, "How about exchanging it for your lives? My friend, do you truly fail to grasp the situation? Keeping calm and restrained, refraining from violence - that is the utmost mercy I am extending to you."
If it had been earlier, Amberser wouldn’t have minded trading them some food or other goods for information, but these Gith Yankee had struck first. They were the type who respected force but not kindness and hence, did not deserve any courtesy from him.
Amberser’s threat made all the Gith Yankee show angry expressions, but Amberser didn’t bother to be polite with them. He waved his hand and brought out the Giant Puppets from his personal space.
Even though they were just unmoving "corpses," their four-meter-tall size still posed a considerable threat.
"You should be aware of the might of these Puppets, and now, they’ve become my spoils of war. Are you sure you want to force my hand into violence?"
Ultimately, the Gith Yankee capitulated.
The memories of the three Giant Puppets had left a deep impression; if Amberser could kill them and appear unscathed, it signified he possessed the power to slaughter the entire Gith Yankee Race.
The Gith Yankee were brutal and quick-tempered, but they were not fools.
When the situation overpowers you, bowing your head is required, just as they did before the Heart-stealing Demons.
These Gith Yankee also held deep grudges, and if given the chance, they would not hesitate to exact their revenge on Amberser.
The Gith Yankee leader tossed a disk-shaped object to Amberser, then said, "Take it. It contains everything about the Heart-stealing Demons."
This material of the disk was unique to the Gith Yankee, a special recording tool able to hold vast amounts of textual content in a small piece.
Amberser had expected the Gith Yankee to play some tricks, but instinct told him this man hadn’t lied.
After receiving the disk, Amberser scanned it with his perception, and the disk opened layer by layer, rotating on its own.
The information on the Heart-stealing Demons he had long sought appeared above the disk as a projection.
After a brief examination, Amberser finally found what he wanted.
Where Heart-stealing Demons resided, there would often be exchanges of psychic communication, and the disk contained records of a magical artifact able to detect this type of psychic activity from a distance, thus pinpointing the location of the Heart-stealing Demons.
"Fortunately, I am still an Alchemist," Amberser said with satisfaction.
