This Lich Requests More Remuneration
Chapter 503 - 463: Why Is It with You?

Chapter 503: Chapter 463: Why Is It with You?

The continent was in turmoil, and the Emperor of Laine used the Power of Time to resurrect twenty thousand men destined to die, which greatly boosted the confidence of the Laine People.

After several counterattacks, they were unable to completely retake their cities, but in the end, they managed to win a brilliant victory. Laine lost one Legendary Holy Warrior but took down two Orc legends in exchange.

Ange Watson would not normally resort to the tactic of sacrificing eight hundred of his own to kill a thousand enemies, but the situation was different now, forcing him to make such a desperate move.

Though the battles were bloody, they ultimately forced the Orcs to abandon their plan to cross the river and attack.

The two sides re-entered a stalemate, but since the Emerald River limited the mobility of both parties, the Orcs’ miraculous operations of merging and splitting forces temporarily lost their advantage.

The well-equipped and high-spirited Laine People naturally regained the upper hand, but they were temporarily unable to recapture the lost territories. While Ange Watson focused on setting up the defenses, he began to earnestly investigate all intelligence on the Orcs.

He needed to find the key figure controlling the entire Orc army.

It was very difficult to defeat this opponent on the battlefield, but the battlefield wasn’t limited to the front lines.

Ange Watson even petitioned the Emperor, hoping to make an exception and enlist the help of that Lich.

The Orcs’ ability to mobilize all their forces at a moment’s notice hinged on another precondition: that they could easily grasp the entire movement of the battlefield.

How did they do it?

Quite simply, they ordered a few airships with no combat capabilities, purely for reconnaissance, and placed their observers aboard.

As long as the weather did not interfere, there was little on the battlefield that could escape their gaze.

Even though the Laine People knew that those few black dots were the Orcs’ scouts, they had no means to counter them.

It wasn’t that they couldn’t fly, but rather, they couldn’t keep up.

The Flight Spell, with its speed of thirty or forty kilometers per hour, couldn’t even catch the shadow of an airship.

Having experienced multiple Connected Dream Realm war simulations, Ange Watson was well aware of how terrifying the war machines created by that Lich could be.

Even though they had tried very hard to mimic them, the gap in alchemy technology was simply too vast.

Just the high-priced, stealthily purchased micro jet engines alone were something the vast Laine Empire couldn’t replicate. It wasn’t that they couldn’t make them at all, but the failure rate was too high; no one could guarantee that there wouldn’t be problems during flight.

Such an accident could easily be fatal.

The Laine People had many who weren’t afraid of death, but they couldn’t be sacrificed so easily.

According to Ange Watson’s view, they only needed to purchase the jet engines; they could completely avoid touching other Undead Troops.

The Lich used the Undead to control warships, but the Laine could use living people, ensuring just the most basic safety. Ange Watson had come to understand these weapons, and he himself could train a special air force to confront the Orcs.

However, the identity of that Lich was too sensitive, and now, with the Emperor in need of rest, would the Empire approve this request?

But without seeking the Lich, they could only turn to the Dwarves. How could the Dwarves possibly sell these jet engines to Laine? They would rather see the Laine People lose further and then directly rise up for revenge.

Ange Watson didn’t know that even if the Laine Empire agreed to collaborate with Amberser, he wouldn’t be able to find the Lich anytime soon.

Amberser had just stepped out of the Undersea Labyrinth, having crossed the inner and outer vortexes and the endless Thunder, officially entering the inner part of the Thunderous Sea Area.

At the exit of the labyrinth, there was a staircase already severely corroded. The two walked up the staircase, which almost turned into a ramp, all the way up to the sea’s surface.

Directly in front of them stood a huge archway constructed of piled-up rocks, which had been there for an unknown number of years yet showed little sign of damage.

The air was filled with the smell of ozone, causing Airel to hold her nose involuntarily.

Though unpleasant, breathing was not an issue.

Amberser was unaffected, but he was drawn to the huge stone archway in front of him, as he seemed to remember seeing something like it somewhere else.

Amberser walked swiftly to the arch, touched its gray and rough surface with his hand, and tried to chip off some material to examine it but found that the archway was incredibly hard, leaving not even a mark.

Curious, Airel approached Amberser and asked, "Master, have you discovered something?"

After a moment of contemplation, Amberser replied, "I have seen this material elsewhere, constructed from corpses that have been specially processed."

The material of the arch was very similar to the ancient civilization Amberser encountered underground in the desert.

Made from the corpses of unknown creatures that had undergone special treatment, even Katherine’s arrows could only leave a small mark, showing how sturdy it was.

Amberser never expected to encounter it here.

Could it be that the Storm Coliseum was actually built by the lost civilization beneath the desert?

Amberser vaguely guessed that the ancient Giant Race were devotees of Talos, constructing magnificent cities for Him, including the Storm Coliseum. What led to their extinction was unknown.

Perhaps it was a special plague that wiped out the race, or maybe they encountered another more powerful Race and were annihilated. Of course, the greater likelihood was that they offended Talos and were punished with extinction.

Later, the land where they lived was flooded by the sea. After some time, the sea turned into a desert, burying this civilization deep underground.
