Chapter 480: Chapter 445 Truly a Perfect Match
With Amberser’s current status, a Ninth Circle Spell is of little significance to him.
As long as he continues to amass wealth unceasingly, he can easily cast spells like the Revenge Storm, another Ninth Circle Spell, with ’pay-to-win’ tactics. However, acquiring another gift from Talos simply gives Talos an excuse to meddle in his affairs.
But a divine gift does not require the approval of mortals. As long as it doesn’t harbor any malicious intent, a deity is unrestricted in how they bestow their power.
When Shael shared knowledge of the Dark Web with Amberser, it only served a locational purpose and couldn’t be used to harm Amberser. When Rowetta forcibly advanced Amberser to legendary status, reclaiming the unwanted Power of Destiny, Rowetta didn’t leave any traps behind but merely limited the ceiling of Amberser’s Destiny Weaving ability.
So Amberser isn’t worried that the Thunder Mark on his hand will suddenly reduce him to ashes.
It’s just that he can’t refuse this gift.
Aio isn’t strict enough. He should order the punishment of those deities who carelessly bestow gifts, and ideally, he should strike Talos dead this instant and then pass on his divine position to me—that would be fair and just.
Too bad Aio won’t heed his loyal advice.
Mere mortals are insignificant with their feeble voices; just hate those high and mighty gods who don’t have the guts to come down and fight him fair and square.
Having finished with his contemplation, Amberser has no choice but to consider what stumbling blocks Talos may set for him.
As is well-known, the power of Talos is beyond question—he’s one of those brutes who opens the location of his divine realm for all gods to see. It’s simple for the gods to locate Talos; they could go straight to his divine realm and duel with him if they wish.
And Talos has many enemies. The Lord of the Dawn has had a grudge against him for many years, yet all these years have not cost Talos a single hair.
This goes to show just how powerful Talos is.
There’s no helping it; a deity’s power is likely divided into three parts: the primary one being the control of their deity position, the second their level of divine power, and finally, their physical form.
Take Goddess Tiamat, for example.
Her deity position is related to the Chromatic Dragons and falls into the category of a Racial God. If given a score out of ten, this aspect would only earn a six because the Dragon Race is formidable, so her position is not weak. As for the level of divine power, that would at most get a score of two. Tiamat’s own exploration of her divine powers is not deep, and her usage is quite average.
However, Tiamat’s physical form could be scored an eight or possibly a nine. Sorry to say, the gods of the Dragon Race are that strong; they can crush a multitude of weaker deities without even using divine powers.
The Lord of the Dawn, on the other hand, is a God of Faith, whose position is related to light, grand enough to score a seven or eight. The level of divine power is strong, but being greatly influenced by faith, with the current situation of Laine, it might only score a six at best. As for the physical form, rumors have it that the Lord of the Dawn was a mortal who achieved deification. His physical form is merely that of a fragile human, not much to boost this aspect—a generous two points would be an overestimation.
By this reckoning, even Tiamat could arm-wrestle with the Lord of the Dawn. If they truly fought, Tiamat might not win because the Lord of the Dawn possesses a vast amount of Power of Faith at his disposal; however, it certainly won’t be an easy victory for the Lord of the Dawn either.
Now let’s take a look at Talos.
His deity position is associated with destruction, revenge, calamities—just listen to these positions; each one carries a power strong enough to terrify other deities. In terms of combat and destructive power, Talos’s position definitely scores a ten.
Then, as a Concept God with great divine power, minus his childish nature and irascible disposition, that still rates at least an eight.
Lastly, the physical form—according to legends, Talos was an ancient Titan Giant, no less formidable than the gods of the Dragon Race. Add to that his battle frenzy nature, this aspect can’t be rated anything less than a ten, if not nine.
These numbers are merely Amberser’s rough estimates, as actual combat won’t be this straightforward. After all, even God Above Gods Aio had been robbed before; any deity can fall victim to treachery, and divine conflict isn’t just about showing off numbers.
But even if the Goddess of Fate gave Amberser flirtatious glances, he couldn’t ignore these fundamental factors.
Talos is a mighty deity, truly capable of world destruction with a mere sneeze; his strength allows him to affect Amberser in a host of ways.
Take Aeolus, that fool, as an example—he was nothing more than a whim of Talos.
If Talos really became capricious, creating ten Aeolus a day would be trivial for him.
There is no chance of victory in open confrontation; Amberser can only find ways to fulfill the demands of the other party.
It leaves him no choice but to ponder seriously what Talos actually wants.
Although Talos is easier to understand compared to the indecipherable chatter of other deities—judging from their interactions, he’s simply a greedy child eager for thrills and sick of the old.
However, Talos’s requests are peculiar—a wedding?
What does a wedding mean to Talos? Has he been single too long and wants to snatch the bridal bouquet?
Without understanding what Talos is really after, Amberser feels at a loss where to begin.
Meanwhile, Talos sits in his divine realm amidst the ruins, interestedly observing Amberser. With that mark, he can pinpoint Amberser’s location and watch his actions at any time.
This Lich is very intriguing, far more entertaining than that idiot Aeolus.
Talos deliberately kept his words vague, akin to placing an enormous sugar lump around an anthill, to see if these ants could find an exit from the deadly labyrinth.
Talos really enjoyed this kind of game because he had become powerful enough that he scarcely needed to think. If that was the case, what better diversion than to let mortals entertain him with their wisdom?
"What will this lich do, I wonder?"
In Talos’s expectant gaze, Amberser did something — he sought out his mentor, the God of Alchemy.
Even though he had lost the Artifactual Coin, Amberser didn’t need it to find the God of Alchemy; every magic mirror was connected to the God of Alchemy’s Divine Realm and Amberser could reach his mentor simply by dialing a number on any mirror.
Of course, that was only if the God of Alchemy was willing — not everyone was given such privileges.
The God of Alchemy was holding something that resembled a hammer, but it was made of radiating crystals, and there was also a pile of instruments in front of him that Amberser couldn’t recognize. It looked like he was conducting an experiment.
While assembling the various components, the God of Alchemy asked, "Didn’t I already send you the money? You’re not here to check the accounts with me, are you?"
Amberser thought to himself that it wouldn’t be out of the question — who knew if Gustavo Flint had taken kickbacks on the side — but now was not the time to ponder on such matters.
"Lord of the Storm has got his eye on me." Amberser raised his palm to show the God of Alchemy the mark.
Frightened, the God of Alchemy’s hands trembled, and the crystal hammer was dropped in shock, landing on the table and exploding into blinding light, turning everything on the table into ashes.
The God of Alchemy waved away the smoke, casually touched the table, and everything was restored as if nothing had happened, including the crystal hammer.
As the God of Alchemy, he could effortlessly recreate any part of an alchemy experiment; no damage didn’t mean there were no concerns.
With some resignation, the God of Alchemy said, "How did you get involved with Talos again? Weren’t you on good terms with his followers? I’m only of intermediate divine power, and Talos — I truly can’t handle him."
Which of the gods could claim they were capable of withstanding such a brutal and mighty deity? Even if the God of Alchemy reached a higher divine power, the thought of defeating him was out of the question.
"Don’t be so pessimistic. Look carefully, this is a blessing. Talos has granted me the power to use Revenge Storm freely once a day," Amberser told the God of Alchemy.
Yet, the God of Alchemy replied with sarcasm, "You’re my student; don’t I know what kind of person you are? If there was a real advantage, would you even tell me?"
"You hurt my feelings saying that." Amberser retorted, "Your divine power is growing by leaps and bounds, and I can sense it just fine. How can you say I’ve never brought you any benefits?"
As the Black Tide became more visible on increasingly numerous battlefields and as more and more clients sought out Amberser’s Undead Alchemy, everyone in the world began to rethink the concept of alchemy.
Moreover, with the widespread use of magic mirrors, influential figures everywhere were realizing the impact of alchemy on the world.
This was undoubtedly the greatest boost to the God of Alchemy’s ascent, who had long since made up for his previous weakness, with his divine power still progressing. Becoming a powerfully divine entity seemed only a matter of time.
And all of this could be credited to Amberser’s efforts.
Though the mentor and student often saw little in each other, they always worked hard for one another’s sake, since their fates had long been tied together — sharing both glory and ruin.
With a sigh, the God of Alchemy said, "I’m not trying to shirk responsibility, but do you not realize how powerful Talos is? Why would you provoke Him?"
The God of Alchemy felt helpless, as if a child had just earned thousands of Gold Coins for the household only to spit in the King’s face.
"It wasn’t me who provoked Him." Amberser helplessly explained everything and then asked, "I just want to inquire about information concerning the Lord of the Storm. I don’t believe he only wants to marry Airel off. I need to understand what he truly desires."
Unfortunately, as Talos was a deity, Amberser couldn’t use prophecy to get the relevant information and had to resort to asking others.
Expecting the God of Alchemy to be put in a difficult position, he was surprised when an answer came right away, "The Lord of the Storm simply enjoys watching people struggle to survive. The wedding isn’t the focal point; what matters are the choices mortals make under disaster. He delights in grand epics, in human courage, in the tears of joy following a breakthrough from hardship. And then, He will grant the survivors glory."
Talos burst into laughter upon his throne amidst the ruins in the Divine Realm, proudly saying, "This little God of Alchemy does understand me well. That’s right, I enjoy this. Still, it feels a bit cliché. I’m tired of the usual heroic epics; how many can stir me as much as Arthur Laine did?"
Withdrawing his gaze, Talos thought, now that the lich had found his direction, it was time to stop watching. Continuing would spoil the plot, and therefore ruin the fun of the story.
"Don’t disappoint me, mortal, or I will be very displeased. Hahaha!"
Talos’s laughter echoed throughout the Divine Realm, turning into ten thousand thunders, impacting the realm as his struggling followers knelt and sang praises to him.
Only after Talos withdrew his gaze did the God of Alchemy say to Amberser, "Okay, now that Talos has averted his attention, that lunatic wants to see mortals’ struggles and screams, just like pouring boiling water on ants. The wedding? I think he’s more interested in seeing how a man juggles a bevy of women, only to be torn apart by them in the end.
"The uglier the death, the better, and it should come just as he’s about to successfully appease all the women, with the starkest conflict erupting suddenly, resulting in a slew of deaths, and the male lead has to have an expression of unwillingness and frustration. If you could give Him such a drama, perhaps you could satisfy Him."
Amberser:...
What a fucking nutjob!
The Lord of the Storm and the Koutoa Mermaid Goddess are truly a match made in heaven!
