Chapter 464: Chapter 435: The Generous Lich Who Loves to Help
Gustavo Flint was seriously considering Amberser’s suggestion.
Honestly, the customized "undead" by Amberser didn’t pose much of a technical challenge, because what Amberser had customized was only the shell.
The real core of the matter was Amberser’s Pseudo-Soul crafting technology, and the special ability to convert inorganic matter into corpse attribute.
Without these two cores, the only thing worth mentioning about the shells Gustavo Flint produced was the miniature jet engine.
But without a way to remotely control them, these jet engines were less useful than ordinary enchanted arrows.
It’s a pity that alchemy has developed thus far, yet it still can’t achieve low-cost, long-distance control.
For instance, the Magipuppet Automatons legion. If the controller wants to actively control them, the maximum distance cannot exceed thirty meters due to the pervasive magic elements that severely interfere with remote control, making thirty meters the limit; no one has yet surpassed that number.
Once the Magipuppet Automatons are beyond this distance from the user, they can only follow the pre-set programs.
Otherwise, that Legendary Alchemist from before wouldn’t have had to ride his own Magipuppet Automatons to battle against Amberser; instead, he should’ve been hiding somewhere remotely controlling them, befitting an alchemist’s stature.
As for the auto programs of the Magipuppet Automatons, too few alchemists have researched this in recent years, and the occasional ones aren’t geniuses, leaving this area without progress.
Amberser’s products are different, though. What he calls "remote control" is actually issuing commands to his undead minions.
To put it non-prejudicially, Amberser’s technique isn’t remote control at all but the most traditional Necromancer strategy, employing the Skeleton Sea tactic and having skeletons kamikaze themselves.
It’s just that his skeletons look different from everyone else’s.
That’s how alchemy is; a breakthrough in technology often triggers a domino effect. The alchemist who invented the Mana Refining Furnace turned alchemy from a small workshop individual production into factory mass production, bringing alchemy into a new Chapter.
Now it seems Amberser also has a hint of this trend, and he’s pushing alchemy in a brand new direction. Maybe in the near future, Undead Alchemy will become a new subject in alchemy.
But does that mean I should agree to Amberser’s terms?
The fees for shipping Amberser mentioned aren’t a small amount; for Gustavo Flint at present, it’s a considerable sum of money, and if I have to pay out of my own pocket, even my own business would be impacted.
Yet Amberser’s proposal is really tempting. If the scene of this chaotic battle at sea could be used for an advertisement, it would indeed attract many customers to order products.
Nowadays, anyone with a normal IQ can see that the continental situation is unstable. The banishment of the Impure Chant is not the end but the beginning of chaos.
Weapons of war are bound to sell well.
Wait, the sales prospects of war weapons?
Gustavo Flint suddenly felt something was off and quickly asked, "Are you trying to use me to peddle your undead troops?"
Amberser said openly, "What’s wrong with that? You’re one of the manufacturers. The better my undead sell, the more money you make. Isn’t that a win-win situation?"
"That’s not right, hold on. You’ve already offset the cost of manufacturing these undead shells with the blueprints for the miniature jet engine. Now you want me to pay for the shipping, then I endorse you and help you sell your undead troops, and I still have to give you a cut? From beginning to end, you don’t have to spend a single gold coin; are you treating me like a slave?"
Gustavo Flint was sweating profusely; he had just realized all of this.
Without spending a penny, Amberser had acquired so many undead troops, and Gustavo Flint, to recover his investment, would have to work hard to advertise for him in the hopes of making a profit.
Such a fearfully cunning chain-plan. Amberser’s ability to turn nothing into something was truly frightening, and Gustavo Flint broke out in a cold sweat at the thought.
But Amberser tried to reassure him, "Look at what you’re saying, it’s not that exaggerated. Does crafting a Pseudo-Soul cost nothing, does converting attributes cost nothing? If it wasn’t for our old friendship, would I have approached you to collaborate? Flint, when did you become so paranoid? Ask yourself, do my products have a market, can they make money?"
"They can, but you earn the most unless you share the technology of crafting Pseudo-Souls and attribute conversion with me!" Gustavo Flint exclaimed loudly.
Amberser shook his head and said, "You’re thinking too much; that’s the power of Legendary Grace. How can it be shared?"
"I don’t believe it; at least one of those isn’t a power of your Legendary Grace! It’s a benefit you traded for with Alchemy City and the deity. I deserve a part of that benefit!"
Gustavo Flint was sharp-eyed and had guessed that Amberser had traded with the God of Alchemy, and since then, the Lich had started rising rapidly, growing his influence and earning more and more money.
Gustavo Flint couldn’t accept that after so many years of effort by Alchemy City, all the benefits had been reaped by the Lich. It burned his heart like wildfire every time he thought about it.
But Amberser shook his head and said, "You’re always too greedy, thinking too much. Let me think about it for a bit."
Amberser turned off the communication through the Magic Mirror, stroked his chin thoughtfully for a moment, and then took out the Artifactual Coin capable of converting properties.
"Teacher, are you there? I need your help with something." Amberser shouted loudly and disrespectfully at the Gold Coin.
After a short while, the apparition of the God of Alchemy appeared, smilingly saying, "My dearest student, who are you planning to swindle this time?"
Amberser also chuckled and said, "Teacher, has your divine power grown stronger?"
The God of Alchemy also had a face full of joy, and said to Amberser, "Hehe, thanks to you, there are now quite a few people who understand that alchemy is not just about bottles and jars."
"That’s great. I just came across someone who was disrespectful to the God of Alchemy, and I was just about to discuss with you how to swindle him... no, I mean how to let him contribute to the development of alchemy."
"My dear student, speak plainly, don’t I already know what kind of person you are?"
The God of Alchemy didn’t hesitate to expose Amberser’s schemes, but obviously, He had no intention of refusing.
Amberser also knew that there was no need to hide anything from Old Pete and said directly, "Can the ability of this Gold Coin be modified to only convert other substances into Corpse Attribute?"
"Strengthening the effect is not possible, but reducing it is so simple, just add a Seal," said the God of Alchemy.
"Can it be changed back later?" Amberser asked again.
"Restoring it to its original effect is no problem at all, but why would you want to reduce the power of a Divine Artifact?" the God of Alchemy asked curiously.
"I intend to sell this thing to Gustav Flint, but I can’t let him use this artifact for anything else; it should only provide me with a steady supply of materials for Undead Alchemy. By the way, when I’m doing the transmuting and charging so much, then when Gustav Flint uses the Gold Coin... you know, just slightly increase the usage cost. It’s still a weakening of the artifact and not a strengthening, right?"
The God of Alchemy laughed, "We split it seventy-thirty."
Amberser quickly said, "Isn’t that a bit excessive? Aren’t you, a God of Alchemy, beyond needing gold? Can’t you just transmute stone to gold?"
Originally, Amberser’s plan was to get the God of Alchemy to double the conversion price and then transfer all the extra Gold Coins to himself. He intended not just to scam Gustav Flint out of a large sum of money but to keep scamming him consistently.
The God of Alchemy explained, "Rules are rules, even deities can’t meddle with the Mortal Realm at will, as you know. Gold may not be very useful to me, but that doesn’t mean it’s entirely useless. Only if I pay a sufficient price can Aeo avoid being slapped into Hell by you, understand?"
Amberser said unhappily, "I don’t believe it. Why should there be a thirty percent fee just for intermediation?"
But the God of Alchemy said, "You’re overthinking it; seventy percent is mine!"
"You might as well just rob me!" Amberser said angrily.
After all the hard work swindling a fat sheep, why should seventy percent go to someone else?!
The God of Alchemy stubbornly stuck to the seventy-thirty split, responding that it was Aeo’s rule.
With no other choice, Amberser could only grit his teeth and say, "When I become a deity, I’ll have to ask Aeo if this rule really exists!"
The God of Alchemy said cheerfully, "Then you’d better hurry up. Here’s a tip for you: The Elf Tribe has already started a war with Rose, and it’s intense. Rose is completely outmatched and hiding everywhere. The effects of the divine war will soon reach the Mortal Realm, and the deities related to warfare won’t miss this opportunity to bolster their divine power. They will instigate wars in the Mortal Realm lively, so you better be prepared. Regarding the gold issue, don’t worry; I’ll double the price, so your thirty percent will become sixty percent. Satisfied now?"
In his heart, Amberser was full of disdain. Did He really think he was a fool? No matter how much the price increased, thirty percent was still thirty percent!
The God of Alchemy, seeing that Amberser was not pleased, reassured, "Don’t worry, as you know, gold isn’t much use to me. Besides, the rules set by Aeo restrict me and I can use this money to gain some advantages for you."
"What advantages?" Amberser asked curiously.
"I can open a door for you; you know about the Goddess of Wealth, Wojin, right?" the God of Alchemy asked.
"I pray to Her every day, but, unfortunately, I have never received a response," Amberser sighed.
The God of Alchemy asked, "This Goddess has actually been paying attention to you for a long time. No one else in the world can make money like you can. You should have been chosen by Wojin a long time ago. Why do you think there’s been no response until now?"
"Why don’t you just tell me? How could a mere mortal like me guess the actions of the divine? Perhaps this Goddess has encountered some secretive event unknown to mortals?"
However, the God of Alchemy did not explain, instead following along with Amberser’s words, "That’s right, drop the curiosity. Anyway, your teacher will solve this problem for you. I couldn’t do it before, but now, if you continue to expand the influence of alchemy, I might just be able to do it."
After pondering for a long time, Amberser said, "Teacher, let’s just double the price, instead of a higher markup; let’s leave some profit margin for Gustav Flint. The development of alchemy, relying solely on me, is too slow."
Between a little money and the Chosen of the Goddess of Wealth, Amberser could still tell which was more valuable.
Ah, Amberser felt he was really too helpful and too generous. Having lost a bit this time, he must make it back from somewhere else!
