Chapter 456: Chapter 428: Connected Dream Realm Large-Scale Exercise
Amberser was immersed in his private workshop, continuously producing blueprints and various basic components.
Within a few days outside, several years had passed inside, and when Amberser’s new model of undead troops had been designed, those generals he had captured to work for him also presented their own answers.
Three thick battle plans arrived before Amberser, who flipped through them casually without really scrutinizing them, and simply opened the Magic Mirror to connect with the Mermaid High Priestess.
"Clearly, these generals from the land have some... um, they don’t understand the sea, so their battle plans have many problems."
The tone of the Mermaid High Priestess was very tactful, but her message was simple; these land-based warriors knew zilch about naval warfare, and their plans were fraught with issues.
Amberser wasn’t surprised, after all, without experience, it wasn’t strange that their work wasn’t up to snuff.
"Do you really intend to use these people for war?" the Mermaid High Priestess asked with slight worry.
Amberser smiled and said, "I can’t very well ask for your help, can I? The mermaids can’t cooperate too much with us undead, can they?"
Yizhuoluo’s attitude had been made clear; the mermaids could send troops to prevent the Yixi Manta Rays from expanding, but they could not help Amberser take over the region.
What Yizhuoluo least wanted to see was the significant expansion of the undead’s influence, and Amberser helping Aige attain divinity was what Yizhuoluo found most difficult to accept.
It was lucky Yizhuoluo was an absolutely neutral deity; any other would have directly ordered the Mermaid Clan to grapple with the undead to the death.
So, the Mermaid Clan could only collaborate with Amberser under the pretext of subjugating the Yixi Manta Rays, and it was out of the question for them to help control Amberser’s undead troops and assist him to take over the Volcanic Ocean Region.
If it weren’t for this, Amberser would have long since hired the mermaids with money and not needed to find help from land-dwellers.
However, devising strategies on paper wouldn’t suffice, Amberser had anticipated that these living people wouldn’t be adequate, but he had already prepared a way to compensate.
"High Priestess, I still need to trouble you with one more thing, I wonder if you’re available today," Amberser said.
The Mermaid High Priestess responded with a sense of helpless obligation, "I haven’t slept for several days, but if needed, I’ll try my best. However, it’s impossible for me to teach them the techniques of naval warfare in a short amount of time."
These past days, the High Priestess had indeed been laboring tirelessly in preparation.
The Yixi Manta Rays had constructed their nest within the Volcanic Ocean Region, and the Mermaid Clan had dispatched a joint force of Roca Murlocs and mermaids for conquest, resulting in a draw between them.
Though neither side suffered major losses, everyone knew this was a harbinger of a larger conflict, so during this period, she too had been swamped with work. The reason she still took time to review Amberser’s battle reports was to urge him to dispatch troops sooner, to alleviate some pressure off the Mermaid Clan.
Mermaids could renounce any coral reef in the volcanic domain but couldn’t let the Yixi Manta Rays develop their power in this area.
Now, the Mermaid High Priestess really wished to get some proper rest, fearing that Amberser would stir up more trouble, beyond her capacity to bear.
To her surprise, Amberser perked up at her words, chuckling as he said, "That’s perfect, I was just about to invite you to have a good sleep."
After an eerie silence, the Mermaid High Priestess produced a trident in her hand and with a very serious tone said, "Master Ultraman, you have ten seconds to explain that statement, or else..."
Amberser was taken aback, asking in confusion, "Did I say something wrong? I’m simply inviting you to have a good rest. While you’re resting, I can bring you into the Deity’s dream world. There, not only can you get mental relaxation, but you can also accomplish many tasks within the dream, saving a great deal of time... These details are hard to understand when spoken, anyway, when the time comes, just make sure you enter the dream realm on schedule."
The Mermaid High Priestess then realized her misunderstanding, perhaps she had been too tense—after all, this was a Lich, and undead have no need for "sleep."
Prompted by curiosity, the Mermaid High Priestess asked, "The Deity’s dream world? What is that?"
Amberser replied, "Ever heard of the Dreamweave Barrier of the Emerald Dream Forest? It’s similar to that. Everyone who enters the barrier will fall asleep, including the undead, and in this dream, everything in reality can be manifested, and the flow of time will be much faster than in reality... It’s hard to understand these details by talking, just be ready to enter the dream at the appointed time."
Amberser took a small amount of gray dust-like powder, put it in a box, and sent it to the Mermaid High Priestess, saying, "When the time comes, just inhaling a little of this powder will allow you to enter the Connected Dream Realm."
Although a bit doubtful, the Mermaid High Priestess chose to trust Amberser.
"Alright, I will enter the dream on time. I am also curious about what kind of dream realm a Deity can create."
It was her habit to believe in people rather than to doubt; she never maliciously speculated about anyone’s motives.
Amberser was grateful, dealing with the Mermaid High Priestess was truly a relief; aside from Katherine, she was the second person Amberser had met who didn’t suffer from delusions of persecution.
After disconnecting from her, Amberser hurriedly got in touch with Tiflin and the Laine People as well, sending them Dream Dust and coordinating a time for them to enter the dream
Finally, he reconnected with the young Elven King.
Aldalian still wore a look of profound animosity—he could never let go of his hatred for the Lich for as long as he lived.
With dissatisfaction, Aldalian said, "I’ve noticed you seem to enjoy disturbing people’s sleep, is this a routine for your Evil Camp?"
"I can’t choose the time you elves sleep; if I could, today’s task would be impossible. Your Elf Tribe isn’t affected by any spirit influences, so we can only wait until you fall asleep on your own," Amberser said helplessly.
Aldalian asked curiously, "What do you mean by that?"
Amberser explained the Connected Dream Realm to Aldalian. The Elf Tribe is troublesome; for instance, Katherine could walk freely under the effect of the Dreamweave Barrier, completely unaffected.
The other High Elves were the same; merely inhaling this powder wouldn’t force them into dreams, so they had to be willing.
After hearing Amberser’s explanation, Aldalian said in surprise, "You want to conduct military exercises in the dream realm? Can it really perfectly showcase the situation in reality?"
This kid had hit the nail on the head, truly worthy of someone who could become the Elven King. Unlike Old James Watson, who didn’t understand military affairs and was only slightly surprised.
Amberser didn’t explain further, but said to Aldalian, "Why not give it a try? I’ve set the time; don’t get too excited and end up unable to fall asleep."
"Hmm, I know my limits," Aldalian said, though he could hardly contain his excitement.
Dreaming isn’t strange, and seeing anything in a dream isn’t strange either, but what if a dream can simulate everything in reality? How terrifying would that dream be?
And how fearsome would the Lich who mastered this dream realm be?
Even without this exercise, Aldalian had decided to enter this Connected Dream Realm to see what it was all about.
Amberser still sent over the Dream Dust, having asked Laila specifically; as long as the Elf Tribe was willing, the Dream Dust could still transport them into the dream realm. However, the elves would be less influenced in dreams and could wake up any time they wished with their own volition.
This was the formidable blessing of the Elf God, rendering all forced spiritual influences ineffective on the Elf Tribe, ensuring their absolute free will.
When the agreed time to enter the dreams arrived, Amberser casually found a spot on the bunk and lay down, using the Dream Dust to enter the dream realm.
Under Laila’s divine power, Amberser arrived at a surreal underwater world, surrounded by dazzling coral reefs and colorful schools of fish.
He wasn’t the first one there; several Tiflins were already present in the dream realm, marveling at its realism.
Although they could breathe underwater, they could genuinely feel the coolness and pressure of the water, and the fish swarms were within reach.
Such a realistic dream realm was something these Tiflins had never seen before.
When Amberser appeared, the Tiflins hurriedly greeted him with respect.
Amberser casually returned the greeting, then addressed the leading young man, "Are you the commander from the Unclean Chant Sect here for this battle? You look very young."
Though most Tiflins didn’t appear old due to their devilish heritage, this Tiflin was excessively youthful, seemingly barely in his twenties with a yet immature visage.
"Respected Master Ultraman, please be assured, in the name of Mr. Misfortune, I won’t disappoint you," said the young Tiflin excitedly.
"What’s your status, to swear on the name of my senior brother?" Amberser asked in a grave tone.
The young man hurriedly replied, "My ancestor was the younger sister of Mr. Misfortune. Originally, our family had stopped using the Rostov surname, but Mr. Misfortune reclaimed our honor for us, so please rest assured, Master. Even at the risk of everything the Rostov Family has, I will not let you down."
Amberser was silent for a while before asking, "Then what’s your name? How many in the Rostov Family are still alive?"
"Not many, including me, there are only eight of us left. As for my name, I no longer have one, just like the homeland we’ve lost. Since the Unclean Chant Sect was banished to the Chaos World, we, the Rostov Family, have entirely abandoned our names. We all call ourselves Dispossessed until we can lead the kingdom back to the original world, we don’t deserve to bear this surname representing honor," explained the young man.
Although the youth was immature, Amberser vaguely saw Mr. Misfortune’s shadow in his face.
Back when his old friend was young, he was just like this child: naive, placing family honor above all else, fond of talking about grand, lofty ideals.
The first generation Rostov brought shame to the surname, Mr. Misfortune restored it to glory, and their descendants carried on the burden to the extent that they dared not use the name lightly.
Were all people of this family so stubborn?
However, it didn’t matter now. Amberser wasn’t one to dwell on the past. He nodded to the young man and then reminded, "There’s something I must warn you about when you see those Laine People later..."
Before Amberser could finish, three young humans appeared in the vibrant ocean area, unmistakably dressed as Laine People.
Without waiting for Amberser to finish his sentence, the other two Tiflins had already charged forth, hammers suddenly appearing in their hands, smashing towards the three Laine People who had yet to react.
Amberser was speechless; he looked at the youth who claimed to be Dispossessed, and the young man was smiling brilliantly.
One to distract, two to strike without warning—the Tiflins were cunning indeed.
But perhaps this was precisely the sort of cunning that Amberser was looking for.
