Chapter 453: Chapter 425 The Choice of Marshal

"Is it the moonlight on your side that’s too bright, keeping you, a lich who shouldn’t see the light of day, from sleeping? Do you realize it’s the dead of night here?" Aldalian said discontentedly.

Although Aldalian had just woken up, this did not affect his noble demeanor, which Elves seemed to be born with. To put it crudely, even an Elf picking their nose would appear more elegant and beautiful than an average member of any other Race.

Aldalian’s posture, reclining on the bed with dishevelled nightwear, would fetch a high price among circles of noble ladies if it were captured.

But neither Amberser nor Aige, both Undead, were moved by this.

Amberser said bluntly, "I called to wake you up at night precisely to disrupt your sleep, do you understand?"

A flash of anger appeared on Aldalian’s face, but he quickly calmed down and said to Amberser, "Very well, you’ve succeeded, so I might as well turn off this device and continue my sleep."

However, Amberser said, "It’s not that simple. I have to ask you, when I seek help from your Elf Tribe to write a battle plan, what is this nonsense you send me? Is this the level of your Elf Tribe?"

Aldalian said with a smile, "It can’t be helped. Elves are not adept at underwater combat, we could only rely on imagination, so there are bound to be errors. I suggest you do not follow the plan exactly, you need to adapt based on the situation."

"What a pity," Amberser said with regret. "That way, your Elf Tribe stands to lose greatly."

Aldalian frowned slightly, then said, "I know, by engaging with your words, I am accepting a cup of poison, but I still have to ask. What do you mean by that?"

Amberser said with pride, "Exactly as I said. If you don’t help, your Elf Tribe will miss an excellent opportunity."

"What opportunity?" Aldalian asked again.

"An opportunity for a cost-free, extensive battle command practice. Aldalian, you might not be aware, but I have sought not only the help of your Elf Tribe but also the military experts of other kingdoms, including the Laine Empire. I was planning to gauge the merits of your plans and then let more astute generals take command.

"That’s a massive battle involving hundreds of thousands of troops, a chance your Elf Tribe might only come across once in how many years? And, you wouldn’t have to send a single person, resulting in no losses at all, simply remote commanding through the Magic Mirror. And what could you gain? Not merely command experience, but you could witness the combat methods of the Sea Tribes, even how Laine people lead their soldiers..."

Aldalian’s heart was struck by Amberser’s words, and he said in astonishment, "You dare let us take command?"

"It all depends on who’s capable. This is a grand battle of an entire kingdom, with a battlefield spanning tens of thousands of square kilometers, and countless bizarre underwater terrains. Do you think one person can oversee it all? I need many professional commanders, with my provision of the troops and your command."

"Would you miss an opportunity that could cost me?"

Aldalian scowled deeply, if it weren’t for the Magic Mirror, Amberser’s words would be deceitful, as the Elf Tribe would not possibly send people deep into the ocean to lead his troops.

But with the Magic Mirror, it’s different—the Elf Tribe could indeed control the battle remotely from home, without any risk at all.

More importantly, if Laine were to get involved, then it was something the Elf Tribe ought to seriously observe.

By now, the Elf Tribe was aware that the increasingly extreme Laine was the real trouble; if Laine did not fall, a battle between Silvermoon Tribunal and Laine would be inevitable. Plus, given the longevity of the Elf Tribe, even a hundred years of delay would still be a war for ’current’ Elves.

Better to know beforehand and be prepared.

If it were possible to learn even a little about Laine’s military intelligence from this battle, it would be pure gain for the Elf Tribe.

But Aldalian was puzzled: could this Lich be so benevolent?

Greed often leads to loss when facing this Lich, and Aldalian decided to trust his instincts and declined, "The Silvermoon Tribunal has now closed its borders and cannot help you in battle. That’s a political reason, don’t overthink it."

Amberser was somewhat surprised, could this youngster endure so much?

In Amberser’s plan, Aldalian, an ambitious Elven King, would surely be tempted by his words, even at a loss. But instead, the guy had restrained himself?

Amberser sighed, saying helplessly, "You don’t listen to kind words, well, that’s your choice. Do you know that this sea area is a critical route for Drow Elves? It makes no difference if I lose, I’ll have Katherine lead the Drow Elves through by force. I believe with the protection of the Elf Queen, my shipping route will still be safe, even against the assault of millions from the Sea Tribe."

Upon hearing this, Aldalian almost leapt from the bed in anger, saying furiously, "How dare you threaten me with Sister Katherine?!"

Amberser laughed and said, "What are you talking about? It was your Elf God who appointed Katherine to take charge of the Drow Elves, how is that related to me? I merely provided a path for Drow Elves to become lawful. Aldalian, let me be frank with you, I have set my sights on this sea area, and if you don’t help, I’ll have Katherine do it. It’s your call."

Aldalian clenched his fists tightly, he truly wanted to punch this despicable Lich in the face, but he could only grit his teeth and endure.

Now is not the time to break with the Lich. The Elven Gods indeed have a deal with him, and before this deal is done, Amberser simply grasps the Elf Tribe’s vitals. For Katherine’s safety, Aldalian, however unwilling, can only agree.

Aldalian calmed down quickly. After all, as the Elven King, every action had to be considered in the light of the bigger picture, so he made his decision swiftly, "Fine, you wait. I will have someone draft a new plan for you."

Amberser said cheerfully, "That’s more like it. We can definitely work well together. I’m telling the truth, where else can your Elf Tribe find the opportunity to command hundreds of thousands in battle? Long periods without war led to a spell addiction epidemic, shouldn’t you rectify that immediately? Moreover, this time you have the chance to command me in battle, don’t waste this opportunity."

That last sentence made Aldalian grind his teeth as he said, "Rest assured, I definitely won’t let you down."

After speaking, Aldalian couldn’t hold back anymore and cut off the magic mirror communication.

Aige admired, "You are really something. Now, three kingdoms will do their utmost to provide you with combat plans, even providing high-ranking officers to command remotely."

Amberser replied, "Still not enough. I will create a large chat group later, where they can argue face to face. Withered Rose, Laine, Silvermoon Tribunal, plus our people and the mermaids, everyone can communicate face to face. Tiflin hates Laine to death and will definitely create trouble on various details, and the Silvermoon elves can’t afford to lose face in front of others, so these three nations will surely argue."

"They will dig at each other, bringing up pitfalls we can’t even think of, with the mermaids there as technical advisers, that’s when the tactics will be as close to perfect as possible."

Imagining these people cursing each other from thousands of kilometers away or even across planes, Aige faintly looked forward to it; such a scene was truly rare in a millennium.

However, Aige quickly asked again, "What are we still lacking now then?"

Amberser said, "I guess we are missing at least two important things. The first, of course, is regular troops. Even if we’ve conned a bunch of high-ranking officers into helping with command, where are the soldiers for them to command? The Silent Night Pirate Group, when put together, only amount to a few soldiers, definitely not enough to support an entire large-scale battle."

"Troops... that’s not difficult."

Amberser nodded, "Exactly, after all, we are Undead."

Undead are best at overwhelming with sheer numbers. Creating a large number of low-level Undead in a short time is not difficult; all it requires are enough materials.

If necessary, they could even borrow from Withered Rose.

But that is a story for later. The Undead of Gloomyland might not be suitable for naval warfare; in this regard, it’s better for Amberser to handle it himself.

"Besides basic troops, we also need a heavyweight general. Laine People, Tiflin, Elves—all these races are too proud to cooperate fully. War changes in the blink of an eye; it’s impossible to act entirely according to the plan, so conflicts are bound to arise."

"I don’t like the idea that they might just argue for days when the time comes, so we need a marshal who can unify everyone at critical moments to ensure the execution of tactics."

Aige felt puzzled upon hearing this, "There’s no way such a person exists."

Tiflin and Laine have deep-seated blood feuds, and the pride of the Elf Tribe is well-known. There can’t possibly be one person able to make them all nod in agreement.

Unless...

Aige looked towards Amberser and couldn’t help saying, "It seems like only you can pull it off."

Amberser had just shown his mettle; the upper echelons of three countries had no choice but to bow down to him. This was not any form of tyrannical oppression, but rather, Amberser had genuinely grabbed everyone’s weak points, dictating their actions to his liking.

This skill, once the war started, would surely make everyone succumb to Amberser, ensuring orders were followed without internal conflicts arising.

But Amberser shook his head and said, "Making them obey is not difficult, but if I can’t discern which advice is appropriate when they argue, even if I can suppress them, I cannot give orders."

That was Amberser’s biggest problem; he had never been a soldier in his life. Even when he was an adventurer, the highest number of people he had commanded was a dozen, and that was just for an hour or two of adventuring. He lacked military talent and had never learned it, so he really wasn’t up to the task of being the marshal.

"Then who should we look for?" Aige asked, confused.

Amberser mused, "The person doesn’t need to be very strong in military talents, just someone more capable than me, who has studied military basics and has the ability to command everyone’s trust..."

In Amberser’s mind floated that peerless beauty.

Could there be anyone more suitable than Katherine?
