Chapter 415: Chapter 387 Blood of Rosanda
The Laine Empire, a remote small town, far away from those big cities, was the countryside of the countryside.
Kaid Watson lay comfortably in his rocking chair, sipping rum leisurely.
Life was quite comfortable until the hundreds of meteors that fell in the mirror, that apocalyptic scene made Kaid Watson spit out the rum in his mouth.
Tens of thousands of Githyanki, more than twenty dragons, just gone like that?
Kaid Watson, as part of the new generation of Laine, hadn’t really experienced much war; the Magic Dragon War of over a thousand years ago was just history recorded in the books, its true horror hard to imagine.
This time, Kaid Watson was genuinely startled.
Wasn’t this Lich going a bit too far? Even the Laine Imperial Capital couldn’t withstand such a terrifying meteor shower, could it?
Fortunately, fortunate enough, he was mediocre, too high to ascend, too low to sink, and now lying in the countryside, life was already very comfortable.
Even more luckily, he had obtained such a Magic Mirror, and Kaid Watson hadn’t disappointed Amberser; he had already successfully communicated with that Mr. William Harvey in secret and conducted trades for alchemic products like the flying backpack.
Thanks to this Magic Mirror, nobody could imagine that Kaid Watson could contact Harvey in the desert without stepping outside; small items could even be transported through the Teleportation Circle that came with the Magic Mirror.
Although the cost was a bit high, such transactions were truly invisible to gods and ghosts alike.
If only there were more of these Magic Mirrors, it would directly change the nature of warfare.
A Divine Artifact that allows communication anywhere and anytime, what general wouldn’t want that?
Kaid Watson had done a trade worth millions with Harvey, not for his own sake, but to help his brother Allen purchase these equipments.
No matter how much the Young Emperor’s acting skills amounted to, within the populous Laine Empire there were always some keen minds or stubborn individuals who, though outwardly still submitting to this decadent Imperial Family, were already preparing to rebel.
Allen was the figurehead pushed to the forefront, and Kaid Watson worried his naive brother might be used as a pawn by others.
But Allen had no choice; he needed the support of others, which meant stepping into the limelight.
Kaid Watson saw through these matters clearly. The Royal Family of Ryan had issues, Allen was doing nothing wrong, but this was bound to be a difficult path. The Young Emperor didn’t execute Allen outright because the previous defeat hadn’t been forgotten, and Allen was a hero of that war, the Young Emperor didn’t want to dredge up the past.
But once the impact of the defeat had faded, or other big events made the Laine people too distracted to care, the Young Emperor would not hesitate to kill Allen.
Kaid Watson merely hoped that by then, Allen could hold his own.
"Ah, can’t everyone just live in peace? This continent isn’t so small that it can’t sustain so many people. Wouldn’t it be better if everyone just lived their lives peacefully?"
Kaid Watson sighed and continued to look at the Magic Mirror, wondering what grand disturbance the Lich could cause next and thinking if something unpredictable happened, perhaps Allen could still seek refuge with him to save his life.
Closely watching the Magic Mirror stream, what puzzled Kaid Watson was the appearance of a very familiar figure on the screen.
The rum he had just swallowed was sprayed out once again.
"Father?!"
Others might not recognize him, but how could he, his son, not recognize. The man disguised in the image was his father, James Watson!
Just as Kaid Watson was shocked and wanted to see what happened, he found the feed suddenly cut off.
Kaid Watson was so anxious he wanted to hammer on the Magic Mirror, but he quickly calmed down; it wasn’t the Magic Mirror’s fault. It was the Lich who had stopped the stream.
"Lord of the Dawn above, Father, please don’t do anything foolish!"
At this very moment, on the island, Amberser was also full of surprise; this elderly man, wrapped up tightly before him, was none other than James Watson.
This scared Amberser enough to abruptly cut the live stream; if word got out, his identity as an Undead spy would be confirmed.
"How did you get here?" Amberser asked.
James Watson coldly replied, "What’s so strange about that? Seems like you’re not very welcoming of me, eh? You almost blew up my boat just now."
The small island was swarming with Undead, and James Watson had suddenly approached on a little boat after the major battle. The Holy Light power he carried immediately drew the hostility of the Undead, almost causing them to pounce on him and tear him to shreds.
It was Amberser’s quick reaction that allowed James Watson to stand before him.
"Cut the chatter, I’m busy here. If you’ve got something to say, say it. If not, get lost."
Amberser had no good attitude towards this old man, guessing he was one of the "enemies" brought by the Dice of Destiny, but by his manner, he wasn’t here to fight, was he?
James Watson didn’t mind Amberser’s attitude; the grudges and entanglements between them had become too convoluted to clarify. A Light Priest having such a complex relationship with the Undead—James Watson lamented that his predicament was well deserved.
The old man sighed and said to Amberser, "Did you deliberately announce your location to the whole world?"
Amberser nodded, "What, are you here for revenge too? Coming alone, you think too little of me."
James Watson said, "I am no longer the Supreme Decree of the Laine. I am not even a Laine person anymore, and it is not my place to judge the Undead. I came to remind you, the Laine has sent the Conviction Knight Order to deal with you."
Amberser couldn’t help but laugh out loud, dismissively saying, "The Conviction Knight Order again? Have their wounds healed, and they’ve forgotten their previous agony?"
The last time the Conviction Knight Order came, Amberser captured all of them, holding them tightly in his grip.
How long has it been, and they’re ready for revenge again?
Last time, Amberser only had Gareth as an assistant and those things from Alchemy City looming over him.
But now, Amberser had the full support of Gloomyland, plus Gareth, an anomaly one could not measure by common standards. Amberser wouldn’t hold back this time—if the Conviction Knight Order dared to come, he would strip their tendons and flay their skins for all to be utilized.
However, James Watson shook his head and said, "It’s not the young ones from before. This time it’s the real Conviction Knight Order, a full seven Legendaries, with five Paladins and two Light Priests among them. There’s also a complete legion that masters group spells."
Amberser was silent for a long time before saying, "Are you Laine people sick in the head?"
Seven Legendaries—that was a terrifying force. Were the Laine people no longer guarding their borders? What would they do if the Orcs retaliated, if the Druids suddenly unleashed their hounds, or if the Dwarves took the opportunity to counterattack?
James Watson said helplessly, "I no longer count as a Laine person, so I can’t answer your question. But if you ask whether it’s worth it, the answer is decidedly yes. By now, you should be very clear about your status. Every one of the Laine people are worried that one day you’ll banish the entire Laine into that world of Chaos."
Amberser understood—it was his brother’s doing.
Banishing the Impure Chant was too shocking an act, but it could only be done with a combination of many factors.
Amberser didn’t have the ability to cut fate’s threads, nor did Harvey. Such a situation couldn’t be replicated a second time.
Unfortunately, others didn’t see it that way. As long as Amberser lived, they would be plagued by nightmares.
"Alright, I think I understand your intentions now, but why come to warn me?" asked Amberser.
James Watson said, "Because Allen is now in the limelight. You need to be alive for Allen to live more securely."
Amberser understood James Watson’s meaning. Allen had always relied on his support. As long as Amberser, the Lich, was alive, he would remain the Laine Empire’s primary target; once Amberser was gone, Allen would have to bear all the pressure.
But that didn’t seem like James Watson’s character. Amberser asked, "You were unwilling to pay the ransom and would rather let Allen die back then. How come you’re suddenly overflowing with fatherly love?"
James Watson, without a hint of embarrassment, said, "Back then, I was the Supreme Decree, where Laine’s laws were above everything else. Now, I am just an old man, naturally prioritizing the safety of my family. My whole life, I’ve acted according to my position. What’s wrong with that?"
Amberser gave a thumbs up and said, "You priests are indeed skilled in making excuses."
The old fellow clearly recognized the fall of the Royal Family of Ryan and had only then remembered his son, speaking with such righteousness.
"However, I will acknowledge this favor. Those seven Legendaries, do they have any particular traits... Don’t look at me with those eyes; you’ve already betrayed them. Might as well betray them thoroughly, so I have a better chance, and you haven’t come all this way for nothing," said Amberser.
James Watson thought about it and indeed found reason in that, so he told Amberser, "One of them is my student. If possible, I hope you can show some mercy."
Amberser laughed, "I’ll try to show mercy where I can, but I can’t make any promises. An entire Laine legion is not going to be easy to deal with."
A mass of ordinary soldiers, no matter how many, posed little threat. One spell could wipe out a large number of them.
But a regular legion like Laine’s, with the ability to perform cooperative casting, possessed power that could turn the heavens and the earth.
The Fury Tide Kingdom thought they could take down the Silent Night Pirate Group because they had the Storm Priest Group capable of casting group spells.
A horde of Githyanki, when faced with Amberser’s mass spells, suffered heavy casualties, without even a chance to put up a fight.
This was the power of an elite troop.
With seven Legendaries leading, this force would be incredibly formidable, the natural bane of the Undead.
James Watson understood Amberser’s difficulty and conveyed the intelligence of the officers to him. He also warned at the end, "If I’m not mistaken, they should be bringing a Divine Artifact."
"A Divine Artifact? What type, what effect?" Amberser asked eagerly, for that was the most critical thing.
"The Blood of Rosanda, ever heard of it?" inquired James Watson.
Amberser paused for a moment then fell silent. Just as James Watson thought Amberser was frightened and was about to offer consolation, Amberser burst out laughing, "Excellent, it’s been a long time since I acquired a new Divine Artifact. The Blood of Rosanda should fetch a nice price."
