Chapter 412: Chapter 384 Superior Spell

High above, Leds rode his own Red Dragon, clutching his chest.

Blood dripped from the wound on his chest, inflicted by Gareth’s blade.

That single strike had already pierced through two dragons and several Githyanki Dragon Knights, but its remaining force had managed to breach his Magic Shield and left him with a chilling wound.

Fortunately, it had missed his heart. Githyanki, even those of a Mage’s constitution, were quite resilient, allowing Leds, though wounded, to barely escape on his Red Dragon.

Leds was a Githyanki commander, and it was he who led the team during this invasion from the Star Realm.

With his flight, the battle was lost.

However, Leds didn’t believe it was his fault, and likely, neither did the other Githyanki.

The plan wasn’t supposed to go like this.

The original plan was to engage in battle with a section of humans upon their arrival and afterward, gain control of a vast kingdom as their domain.

Then the Githyanki would begin to reproduce in large numbers and proceed to occupy this Plane.

This kind of operation was Leds’s specialty; it was his regular practice.

Once the Githyanki population grew, they’d begin to dominate this Plane and plunder all resources to send back to the Star Realm, nourishing the Githyanki people.

The script was meant to play out this way; the Evil Dragon Goddess had explicitly promised so.

They had collaborated many times before, and Leds didn’t believe this Goddess would deceive him.

But unexpectedly, the script went astray right from the beginning.

Those white-skinned humans were much stronger than anticipated, causing significant losses to the Githyanki. But up to this point, the losses were still tolerable. Once they had their territory, they could quickly regain their strength.

Then, everything that followed became incredible, defying all logic.

An entire kingdom’s land just flew away, leaving behind a transformed vast sea.

Cities vanished, and all the resources within them disappeared; their territory was gone just like that.

It seemed that even the Evil Dragon Goddess hadn’t anticipated this turn of events, leaving them waiting for several days before giving new instructions—to have Leds lead the Githyanki to seek out the Dragon Race of this world across the seas.

They expected strong reinforcements, but the Dragon Race of this world was faring even worse than the Githyanki, with nearly every dragon showing signs of malnutrition.

What followed was to assimilate these Dragon Race members and build headquarters overseas... Everything was moving along smoothly until they encountered the fearsome Headless Knight.

Their proud Dragon Knights were merely child’s play compared with him.

Caught completely unprepared, Astral Red Dragons and countless Githyanki were butchered by the Headless Knight.

The Overseas Dragon Clan, who had already agreed to an alliance, immediately wavered after witnessing the Headless Knight’s terrifying power, swinging back and forth indecisively.

If it hadn’t been for the need of these dragons’ help, Leds was almost ready to order the slaughter of all the Overseas Giant Dragons and seize their Dragon Island.

But after much thought, he concluded that he had to rely on himself in the end.

Leds had no choice but to patiently gather information about the Headless Knight’s origin, while organizing his people to settle overseas and dealing with the neighbors around them.

This was humiliating; the Githyanki were conquerors in other Planes and had never experienced such groveling. However, he had no choice. As a Legendary Mage, Leds possessed the wisdom to assess the situation, and the current circumstances necessitated temporary endurance.

Later on, once the Githyanki stabilized their footing, Leds also found his first ally—the Yixi Manta Ray.

This creature, bearing Demon bloodline, hit it off perfectly with Leds. Demons loved chaos and slaughter, and the Githyanki urgently needed such Deep Sea monsters to help expand their sea power.

Once again, everything started to get back on track, and Leds even devised tactics specifically against the Headless Knight.

The brute was simple to target.

Indeed, as he anticipated, with the Dragon Tomb’s Master gone, the opportunity presented itself.

Leds thought his plan was perfect; all it needed was proper execution below, but instead of news of triumph, what came was the furious Headless Knight.

Even if the tactics failed, Leds had backup plans, several tactics in store aiming at the Headless Knight.

But this time, Leds witnessed Gareth in his full-power form.

Fighting alongside Pale Bone, Gareth spent ninety percent of his attention protecting his wife, even unconsciously using himself as a shield for Pale Bone’s safety, which, paradoxically, hindered his efficiency as a Dragon Knight.

This time, however, Gareth rode not his wife but an Eight-Legged Giant Horse.

This was a true mount, a comrade, a tool that didn’t require Gareth’s protective distractions.

Gareth, now entirely focused on the battlefield, was like a changed man—although headless, he seemed to have grown hundreds of eyes, precisely making the best judgment no matter where the attack came from.

Multiple times, it looked as if fireballs had engulfed him, yet Gareth would emerge unscathed from the thick smoke, lifting his hand to slay dozens of Githyanki with a single slash.

In an instant, the Headless Knight could find the weakest point in a saturating attack and cleave a pathway with his Chain Long Knife, faster than any Ranger’s reaction.

And when Gareth charged, the Chain Long Knife in his hand became the Grim Reaper’s scythe, reaping swathes of lives with each swing.

A single strike not only severed bodies in half but also seemed to scorch souls into ashes with its dark flames.

All tactics were useless; the Githyanki on the ground couldn’t form a formation and were slaughtered by Gareth’s charges, killing hundreds at a time.

Leds tried everything in his power to stop Gareth, planning to utilize the aerial advantage of the dragons to launch an aerial attack. But before he could act, strong winds rose in the sky, endless dark clouds appeared, shrouding the Astral Red Dragons.

Under the shroud of corrupting power, these red dragon scales began to smoke and emit wails of agony.

Such a vast expanse of corruption cloud couldn’t possibly be cast by a single person. Leds hurried to find the enemy, and saw five ghost ships rising from the sea surface.

Countless specters whirled and danced upon the sails, their concerted efforts casting this exceptionally wide-range spell.

The arrival of Aige’s Silent Night Pirate Gang became the final straw that crushed the Githyanki.

Realizing the tide had turned, Leds didn’t hesitate to order a retreat, leaving tens of thousands of Githyanki to cover their escape while leading away all the Yixi Manta Ray Knights and Dragon Knights.

And just when he had to lower his altitude to issue the orders, Gareth, riding his eight-legged giant horse, leapt up high and hurled his long knife towards him.

That strike nearly claimed Leds’s old life.

Now the Githyanki were severely weakened, with little more than ten thousand Yixi Manta Ray Knights left, and only twenty-two Astral Red Dragons remained.

In just a few days, they had suffered such a heavy blow, all because they had prepared in all the wrong ways.

It was as if fate’s strings were being plucked by someone, playing a dirge for the Githyanki.

Just when Leds thought his luck couldn’t get any worse, that nothing could be more wretched than his current situation, a diminutive figure blocked their path.

Before he could get a clear look, a dazzling golden light burst forth from the figure, stinging Leds’s eyes so much that he couldn’t help but close them.

The Red Dragons slowed down, warily watching the newcomer while brewing a fiery breath in their mouths.

Leds, on the other hand, sensed the figure’s attention fixated firmly on him.

As a Legendary Mage, Leds knew all too well what this meant: any slight misstep on his part, and the figure would unleash a powerful spell on him.

But the distance was too great for a lock-on, wasn’t it?

A typical spell had a range of forty to fifty meters; a powerful mage or Bloodline Sorcerer might use certain techniques to extend this range to at most a hundred meters. Thus, an air-to-ground effect was feasible even beyond the range, though precision might suffer.

But Leds was at least five hundred meters away from the figure. That person’s sensory range was simply preposterous; could they really cast a spell from five hundred meters away?

Impossible, absolutely impossible. At such a distance, even arrows might not find their mark.

Unfortunately, the sense of crisis continued to loom over Leds, leaving him utterly paralyzed.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Amberser sat upon the Golden Throne, having already locked onto Leds from afar.

If the spell casting ability of a regular mage was rated at ten, then the threshold for a Legendary Mage would be at least one hundred. Amberser, a mediocre talent with just eighty, could reach a power of five to six hundred under the enhancement of the Golden Throne, and it could be even stronger if he didn’t mind spending gold.

Statistics were just a vague concept and couldn’t precisely differentiate combat strength, but they at least provided Amberser with a tremendous advantage. His casting distance defied logic, and he could launch fiery spells several hundred meters away.

This white-haired Githyanki flying at the front must be the leader of this sorry bunch. It was just their bad luck to encounter him first, making them the ideal targets to build his reputation with.

The Magic Mirror was filming this, and other users of the Magic Mirror must have been watching the live broadcast by now.

For the sake of business, he couldn’t let this show fail.

Therefore, Amberser shifted from his usual amiable persona to one of authority. He addressed the Githyanki with, "Invaders from the Star Realm, I didn’t expect you to join the fray. Bringing an army to kill me is making quite the statement, xp."

Leds was utterly baffled. What was this person talking about?

Leaning in a bit closer, Leds finally saw Amberser’s skull.

A Lich? Why was it blocking their way?

Leds was confused for quite some time until he noticed a tiny island the size of a palm on the ground.

No way, it couldn’t be that the Lich thought the Githyanki wanted to take over his territory, could it? Did it really think they were scavengers for any piece of trash?

That piece of land was barely enough for Githyanki to stand and squeeze together; who would want it?

This was like a giant dragon in distress being bullied by a dog. Since when had the Githyanki ever been humiliated like this, taking crap from a mere Lich?

Leds observed repeatedly, making sure there were no ambushes nearby and only a whiff of undead presence on that island. Finally, he said to Amberser, "You’re a fool. The undead are what I loathe most, and yet you’ve come to me on your own!"

It was the perfect outlet for his frustrations.

Just as Leds was about to order the Lich torn apart, he heard Amberser say, "Hold on. If you truly mean to be my enemy, know that I have never sought conflict; I’ve only ever acted in self-defense when I’ve had no other choice."

Leds felt something was off, but was the Lich showing weakness?

It had jumped out to provoke them all on its own, when it could have just hidden away; and now, was it backing down?

Leds was too tired to argue further and commanded, "Disassemble his bones, burn his island!"

The Red Dragons roared and charged forward. Amberser sighed audibly enough for everyone to hear, "You forced my hand."

Amberser raised his right hand, and the sky suddenly brightened.

Leds looked up in horror, his hand trembling so much he dropped his life-dependent magic wand.

By Aeo, what was that?

Hundreds of meteors rained down from the heavens, engulfing all the Githyanki within their reach.

Amberser had long prepared his ultimate spell—Hundredfold Meteor Burst!
