Chapter 399: Chapter 371 The Authority of the Elegy Poetry Society Must Not Be Violated
Amberser had seen dragons of such immense size before; the Magic Dragon Armament’s transformation into a Time Dragon was roughly this size.
However, because the Bone Dragon had lost its flesh and blood, it appeared much "slimmer."
But no matter how slim it was, the Bone Dragon’s claws were still larger than Amberser’s entire body.
Amberser carefully examined the massive skeleton and quickly noticed several characteristics. A thin layer of light shadow covered the bones, constantly changing colors like a rainbow. Secondly, there was a significant wound on the right side of the Bone Dragon—it nearly severed the entire wing at the root.
This was a Bone Dragon transformed from a Rainbow Dragon, and judging by its size, it must have been an old one that lived during the era of the Magic Dragon Tyrant. The injury on its wing was likely inflicted by those rebellious heroes.
This was a Rainbow Dragon!
The Time Dragon, Rainbow Dragon, and Power Dragon—these three were known as the three legendary Giant Dragons because they were legendary from the moment of their birth.
Rainbow Dragons naturally possessed the power to control light, excelling at magic. They could twist light and shadow to create illusions, completely conceal their massive bodies, and even jump between dimensions, entering another plane to evade damage.
Rainbow Dragons also had exceptionally high magic resistance and the strongest spell casting ability among the three legendary Giant Dragons. A mere juvenile Rainbow Dragon was equivalent to an entire group of high-level mages.
The heroes of the past were truly formidable to have slain such a monster.
The master of the Dragon Tomb, Sevres, bowed his head and surveyed the Ghost Ship with his eyes burning with Soul Fire. After sweeping over the deck, he fixed his gaze on Aige.
With a deep voice, Sevres said, "Master of the Silent Night Sea, your sudden visit is quite unexpected. I hope you have not brought conflict to the Isle of Slumber."
Aige said nothing but stepped aside to make room at the bow for Amberser. Aige introduced Amberser to Sevres, "Lord Sevres, I am but a ship; the true guest is this one."
Sevres turned his head, looked at Amberser with a hint of disdain, and said, "This Lich... I had thought he was your underling. Little Skeleton, who are you?"
Amberser inwardly lamented—the Bone Dragon lacked expressions, making it impossible to decipher the old creature’s thoughts.
For Sevres to claim he did not know Amberser was surely false; after the battle of the Impure Chant, Amberser’s name must have spread throughout the world.
A Diviner Mage who could banish an entire kingdom with such a feat alone was enough to earn respect from anyone. And the master of the Dragon Tomb? How big was this island?
So why pretend not to know him?
Was it to assert dominance, or just simply... Amberser looked at Gareth and indeed saw the Headless Knight making covert hand signals to him: bear with it, consider it a favor owed.
Amberser immediately understood.
His relationship with Aige was different; Aige was a powerful neighbor to the Bone Dragons, the renowned master of the Silent Night Sea. But to the old dragon, Amberser had another role besides being the Diviner Mage and Lich—he was the bad influence his daughter had sought out when she ran away from home.
No way, was this old thing that petty? The master of the Dragon Tomb concerned about such trivial matters?
But considering Miss Bone Dragon’s behavior... it seemed the souls of this undead family were all somewhat flawed, perhaps overly sentimental.
"Respected Lord Sevres, my name is not worth mentioning for someone of my minor stature. There is no need for you to concern yourself with it. However, we are here today for more than reminiscing with Gareth; we also want to discuss the issue of the Astral Red Dragons and the Githyanki with you," Amberser said.
Amberser gave Gareth face by not taking issue with Sevres’s childish antics, instead plunging straight into the main topic.
As expected, once the conversation turned to serious matters, Sevres’s tone changed. He said to Amberser, "What does this have to do with you?"
"Originally nothing, but I heard from Gareth that the Bone Dragon clan has been troubled by those Astral Red Dragons. Lord Sevres, the conflicts between the Bone Dragons and other members of the Dragon Race are of no concern to me. Whether those Githyanki seek to conquer or destroy this world, it matters little to us undead..."
Amberser moved to the bow and flew into the air, approaching the same height as Sevres’s eyes. He said solemnly to the old Bone Dragon, "However, we cannot tolerate an affront to the Elegy Poetry Society. You should know that your daughter and Gareth are both members of the Elegy Poetry Society, and both Gareth and Pale Bone have helped me before. So this time, I’ve come to help them take revenge."
Sevres turned his head and glared fiercely at Gareth.
The recently sea-sprinting stalwart scratched his helmet awkwardly and said to Sevres, "Father-in-law, you know, I can’t let her suffer any injustice!"
Sevres angrily said, "You’ve killed more than a dozen Red Dragons and tens of thousands of Githyanki; isn’t that enough?"
Sevres truly regretted allowing his daughter to interact with the Githyanki. He had missed by just a moment to control the situation.
Gareth, astride Pale Bone, charged into the midst of the dragons, slashing through scales and wings in a chaotic flurry. Those Astral Red Dragons stood no chance against Gareth’s Chain Long Knife, which sliced them into pieces in the blink of an eye.
Gareth’s equipment, all forged from the most precious materials in the Dragon Tomb, was terrifyingly powerful—Sevres was all too aware of that. These Githyanki were fools to provoke his son-in-law.
When Gareth went mad, no amount of bone dragons together could restrain him.
It was thought that after that incident, the conflict between the Githyanki and the Dragon Tomb could be set aside; co-existing without interacting with life and death was acceptable.
Who would have known that Gareth would also call over members of the Elegy Poetry Society?
The Elegy Poetry Society is a name known to few, and Sevres is among them.
The year his daughter turned into a bone dragon, becoming a dragon sorceress, an old man appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the Dragon Tomb, laying a Necromancy Codex by his daughter’s side.
Sevres was startled; with countless layers of magic defense inside and out of the Dragon Tomb, how could a stranger break in, especially arriving at the critical area for bone dragon transformation.
At that moment, Sevres wanted to turn the old man into ashes with dragon’s breath yet when Sevres locked eyes with the old man, he felt his whole body stiffen as if every bone was shackled, freezing him in place.
The old man introduced himself, "No need to be nervous, I mean no harm to your daughter. I am the president of the Elegy Poetry Society. I’ve come to invite your daughter to join us. Disrupting the peace of the Dragon Tomb was my oversight. I’ve slept for too long, and my bones are a bit stiff, making my actions clumsy. A small gift, as a token of apology."
The old man left behind an inconspicuous ring and departed.
It was only after the figure had disappeared that Sevres regained the ability to move.
Sevres helplessly accepted the fact that Pale Bone had joined the Elegy Poetry Society and since then had been inquiring about the mysterious society president’s news.
Unfortunately, it was all in vain.
Even the Necromancy Codex could only be used by those chosen; strangers who opened it saw only blank pages.
However, Sevres did manage to get a lot of information about the Elegy Poetry Society from his daughter. Although there were not many members, each one seemed exceedingly mysterious, especially the president, who was unbelievably powerful.
Later on, Pale Bone received Gareth’s call for help through the Necromancy Codex.
At that time, Gareth had just become a Headless Knight and was being pursued by Laine after taking his revenge. He had no idea how he had turned into an undead, only knowing that after his transformation, this Necromancy Codex was by his side.
Then came revenge, followed by the chase from the Paladin Legion.
By the time Gareth sought help from the Elegy Poetry Society, Miss Bone Dragon responded to him.
In theory, bone dragons didn’t belong to the Dragon Race, not greatly affected by the contract of those days, which allowed them to enter the mainland.
Pale Bone used Gloomyland as a stepping stone and, after several teleports, arrived on the border between Laine and the Desert Kingdom.
She had thought it impossible for Gareth to escape from Laine, the very empire of Laine, the powerful enemy of the undead.
Yet, defying all odds, Gareth broke through the encirclement; he took a twisted and winding route, but he indeed fought his way through most of the Laine Empire.
Gareth could no longer remember when he ascended to legend, only that he fled while retaliating and killed many paladins. But by the time he stepped into that golden desert, Gareth was nearly spent, his dark magic power on the verge of depletion.
The seriousness of crossing national borders made the paladins chasing Gareth hesitate for a moment, and in that gap, Pale Bone emerged from hiding, taking Gareth back to the Dragon Tomb.
It was the first time she had used her Legendary Grace in actual combat, never expecting to use it to save someone.
And so, the Dragon Tomb gained one more member of the Elegy Poetry Society.
Sevres regretted it, wishing he had never allowed Gareth to marry his daughter. Undead marrying was pure folly. Who knew what transpired between them, but it turned out they truly developed genuine affection for each other, and if he didn’t agree, Pale Bone was ready to elope with Gareth.
Helplessly, Sevres eventually accepted his son-in-law.
Gareth was usually well-behaved, but who could have imagined he would be so bold this time, bringing other members of the Elegy Poetry Society with him. And these two weren’t ordinary members: the owner of the Silent Night Sea has been an old neighbor, and Sevres knew full well the prowess of Aige, not to mention the infamous lich; this was a sign of wiping out all the Githyanki.
Amberser noticed Sevres’s hesitation this time and asked, "Lord Sevres, I am quite curious, our fight against the Githyanki seems irrelevant to the Dragon Tomb, yet you appear to be against it. If there is any hidden concern, please speak freely."
Sevres sighed deeply and said helplessly, "In fact, you must have guessed already. The Githyanki and those Astral Red Dragons are here to lift the curse of the Dragon Race. By opposing them, you are effectively cutting off the path for the Dragon Race’s return. Though I’ve already turned into an undead, I still hope my kin can leave this damn place and return to our homeland."
Amberser chuckled internally, waiting for just that.
Amberser said to Sevres, "Then, may I ask, Lord Sevres, what exactly is the curse of the Dragon Race, and how do they plan to resolve it? Perhaps, we can find a way that satisfies both ends."
