Chapter 337: Chapter 314 Zariel’s Descent
The powder was given to Amberser by the Lady of Mist, allowing him to enter a dream at any place and time, where his consciousness would go directly into the Dreamweave Barrier of the Emerald Dream Forest.
Originally, it was the Lady of Mist’s "room key" for Amberser, meant to enable private meetings with her in the dream. Amberser had unexpectedly shared the powder with others.
Although he had notified the Lady of Mist in advance through the Magic Mirror, it still caused the Goddess a bout of complaining.
This was the crystallization of her Divine Power, which she had managed to condensate with difficulty. It would take a long time to replenish once used up.
However, Laila wasn’t one to hold grudges, and she stopped caring after a few words.
Once they confirmed that Domino Lauri had fallen asleep, the two slipped directly into Amberser’s personal realm, the most suitable place for dreaming, where no one could find them.
A powerful Mage could create their own demi-plane, but Mr. Misfortune was still astounded by the sheer size of Amberser’s massive private space.
"How did you get this space? Its stability is ridiculously high, wait, what is that, a Time Freeze barrier?"
Mr. Misfortune was like a country bumpkin in the city, emitting exclamations one after another.
Laymen would just watch for fun, but only a real Mage could understand how outrageous this private space was.
Mr. Misfortune was quite envious; the magical space he created was only a third the size of this one, and he was unable to control the time inside it.
"Alright, stop being so alarmed. I’m a Lich, it’s only natural for me to have some cards up my sleeve."
"You call this natural? I’m really jealous, Arthas. You must be the illegitimate child of the Goddess of Fate!"
"Hey, hey, you’re blaspheming against a Deity there."
"That’s because Fate decreed it so!"
"...You win!"
In matters of fate, Amberser was indeed no match for Mr. Misfortune. Not only was his brother more powerful in manipulating the forces of fate, but his research was deeper, and his understanding more profound.
"Come on, choose a comfortable place to lie down and start dreaming. Time in the dream is infinitely extended, so don’t worry about not having enough time for her nap."
Amberser chose an operating table to lie on and then stuffed the dream-inducing powder into his mouth.
Mr. Misfortune looked around and found that only the operating table, reeking of disinfectant, was available for lying on. The daily life of this Lich seemed quite pitiable.
With no other choice, he too had to select an operating table and put the dubious powder into his mouth.
Only then did Mr. Misfortune think of a question: Can Liches even sleep?
But soon, he closed his eyes, and the moment the powder touched his tongue, Mr. Misfortune fell asleep.
When he reopened his eyes, Mr. Misfortune found himself in a grand, glorious hall, greeted by Tiflins dressed in luxurious clothes.
"This... is this the day I became a Court Mage?"
Mr. Misfortune was astonished. Was this still a dream? It felt so real, exactly as he remembered. Even he had transformed from an old man with drooping eyes to the look of his younger self.
But a black-haired youth appeared in the crowd and slapped him across the face, and everything around him shattered like glass, dissolving into chaos and darkness.
Only then did Mr. Misfortune clearly see that it was Amberser who had slapped him.
"What are you doing?!"
He wanted to enjoy reliving his memories, so why should this bastard slap him?
"Don’t waste time; we are here to figure out the Devil’s plan."
"You just said we had enough time; you did that on purpose, didn’t you?!"
"What I meant by enough time is... never mind, I can’t make up an excuse. I just wanted to slap you because I can’t stand your smug face. Why should I live in poverty my whole life while you enjoy riches for centuries?"
Mr. Misfortune was so angry he wanted to duel with Amberser, but the environment around them changed once again, turning into a room filled with red hues. Domino Lauri was sitting on the edge of the bed, her face full of shock, as if she had just had a nightmare.
Seeing the main subject appear, the two brothers stopped fighting and concentrated on observing the spy that the Hell Lord had planted.
Mr. Misfortune asked curiously, "What place is this? I remember her boudoir doesn’t look like this."
Amberser asked, "Have you been in her boudoir before?"
"None of your business!"
"Fine, let me take a look."
Amberser, like an invisible ghost, surveyed the room, quickly focusing on the bookshelf.
After just a glance, Amberser said in surprise, "This must be about eight hundred years ago. Look at these books; by our times, they’d be ancient texts, but here they’re like new."
Mr. Misfortune, well-read as he was, knew upon one look at the bookshelf that Amberser was telling the truth.
At that time, Mr. Misfortune had not yet been born, while Domino Lauri appeared like a woman in her twenties, exuding youthfulness and charm beyond her more mature visage.
Mr. Misfortune watched, transfixed, but Domino Lauri was completely unaware of their presence, beginning to writhe in agony on the floor.
Great flames sprouted from her body, reducing her clothes to ashes. Domino Lauri let out an agonized howl. Though her flesh was unharmed, it was as if she was undergoing a slow execution.
She rolled on the ground for a full ten seconds before the flames slowly extinguished.
"Hellfire?"
Amberser recognized this type of flame, with its severe damage to the soul. A few more seconds of burning could have turned someone into an idiot.
Drenched in sweat, Domino Lauri climbed up from the ground and then knelt down, beginning to weep and repent profusely.
"I am a traitor, great angel, please forgive my despicable acts, please spare me for my sins..."
Amberser and Mr. Misfortune watched in shock. This angel could only be the Lord of the First Layer of Hell, the Fallen Angel Zariel. The Hell Knight had once betrayed this angel and had been pursued ever since. The story was widespread, but that Zariel could punish the treacherous Hell Knight with hellfire directly?
That was indeed unheard of.
Amberser felt he was gaining insight. The life of a Hell Knight was that miserable indeed; no wonder the previous Hell Knight had begged Amberser to shred his soul, preferring death to entering Hell.
However, Mr. Misfortune felt something was off, "What’s the deal with this dream? Why am I having a good dream, while Domino Lauri is having a nightmare?"
Amberser laughed, saying proudly, "This is a Divine Realm projection from a certain deity, letting her have nightmares. We need to dig up her deep memories to unearth the entire devil’s plan, naturally starting from the very beginning."
"A Divine Realm’s projection? You just made that up, didn’t you?" Mr. Misfortune was utterly disbelieving.
"Believe it or not, you don’t have to stay and watch, but... she’s not wearing any clothes, are you sure you don’t want to take a longer look?"
"You really are a complete asshole."
"Thanks for the compliment."
...
They bickered, but the beauty... no, the truth still needed to be seen.
Amberser was a Lich, and Mr. Misfortune was already an old man on his last legs. Neither of them entertained any inappropriate thoughts; they were simply too used to arguing with each other after not having met for so long.
After her repentance, Domino Lauri leaned helplessly against the bed.
She had endured such punishment too many times already. Although she repented every time, it seemed to have no effect.
The anger of the Fallen Angel had not subsided in the slightest. He wanted to torture all these traitors to death.
Domino Lauri had thought about suicide more than once, but if she killed herself, her soul would immediately fall into Hell. What difference would there be from living?
Just as Domino Lauri didn’t know when such days would end, a ball of hellfire lit up before her.
An angel with a beautiful countenance and wings like blazing flames appeared before Domino Lauri, speaking in a mocking tone, "What’s the matter? Can’t you endure it? The pain I suffered in Hell is a billion times yours."
"Zariel?!"
Domino Lauri curled up in fear, retreating frantically, but even as she pushed the bed until it creaked and shifted, she couldn’t put much distance between them. She could only close her eyes in terror.
It was Amberser’s first time seeing this renowned Hell Lord, possessing both holy and evil auras. The two conflicting presences mixed together, making one feel a bit dizzy just by looking.
Zariel, who was originally staring at Domino Lauri, suddenly turned to look in the direction of Amberser and Mr. Misfortune.
Amberser made eye contact with the Fallen Angel, whose beautiful face was covered in cracks, as if a delicate porcelain had been shattered and then pieced back together.
Just looking at her face, one could imagine how much pain she had suffered in Hell. It was said that she was tortured for countless years before finally succumbing to become a Fallen Angel.
The devil’s methods were so cruel that mortals could not fathom them; enduring for so long was a testament to Zariel’s strength.
Mr. Misfortune asked, "Why can she see us?"
This was a dream created through Domino Lauri’s memories, so the two of them shouldn’t have been present at the time, should they? How could Zariel look their way?
Amberser reassured him, "It’s normal. Even though it’s based on Domino Lauri’s memories, this simulation of deity possesses a degree of divinity. It’s very normal for it to see us. But that’s all it is; after all, a fictional deity is just that, fictional."
No sooner had he spoken than Zariel, as if influenced by some force, turned her head back and looked at Domino Lauri as if nothing had happened.
Mr. Misfortune exclaimed in surprise, "How do you know so much about deities? This isn’t written in any book, right?"
Amberser casually replied, "I’ve encountered many deities."
Mr. Misfortune: ...
This damned Lich; he would surely have to pay back what he owed today, and the debt would make him cry!
Zariel seemed to relish in Domino Lauri’s fear. She tormented her for a full hour before she finally grabbed the battered Domino Lauri to her side.
"Filthy betrayer, do you want to be free from all this? I can give you a chance..."
Zariel’s voice grew softer and eventually faded to silence.
Just as Amberser and Mr. Misfortune were about to lean in to listen more carefully, they saw Zariel suddenly turn her head, once again staring at them.
Zariel bared a smile and said to them, "Little bugs, I’ve caught you."
