Chapter 330: Chapter 307: Goodbye Laila

In the skies of the Laine Empire, a massive airship flew by at an inconceivable speed.

Many cities of Laine noticed this airship, initially mistaking it for an enemy attack and hastily activated their city defense magic arrays, with various anti-air weapons arranged on the city walls.

But to their surprise, the airship just flew straight over without any pause.

At first, the Laine people reported upwards, saying that they had seen such a strange flying object.

The cities that followed prepared themselves for battle, intending to intercept the airship, but they were shocked to find that although it looked small, it was actually at an extremely high altitude, beyond the reach of their Magic Conduction Cannons atop the city walls, let alone the Divine Arts of the priests.

Fortunately, the airship merely flew directly over and didn’t drop anything from the sky, which finally allowed the Laine people to breathe a sigh of relief.

However, such an audacious airship that dared to cross the entire Laine from east to west with impunity—how could they tolerate this?

When the news reached the Laine Imperial Capital, the Young Emperor was so angry that he almost donned the Magic Dragon Armament to shoot down the airship, but he was ultimately persuaded against it.

And that mysterious airship, after crossing the Laine borders, headed straight for the Emerald Dream Forest and completely vanished from the sight of Laine people.

The people on the ground in Laine were incredibly angry, but that had no effect on Amberser Xiu flying above in the sky.

He sat on the latest model of airship, which took more than a decade to develop, enjoying this comfortable journey.

"It’s not in vain that I’ve spent over a decade researching in my private space; at last it won’t explode halfway through flight, and the speed has increased to eight hundred kilometers per hour," he said.

After deciding to deliver the Divine Duty Box to the Lady of Mist, Amberser Xiu hid in his private space, adjusting time so that one day outside equaled one year inside.

Then, Amberser Xiu spent thirteen years there, focusing all his efforts on improving the jet-propelled airship.

Fortunately, Amberser Xiu’s greatest strength was innovation; after more than a decade, he finally created this streamlined, triangular airship.

The entire body was a right-angled triangle with added tail wings, and the central cabin could accommodate five people.

It was an airship designed for long-distance travel and not for carrying cargo, but its flying speed was said to be the fastest on the continent, even dragons couldn’t catch up.

There was no choice; he was compelled to do it.

Since he couldn’t teleport while carrying the Divine Duty Box and the desert was separated from the Emerald Dream Forest by the entire Laine, Amberser Xiu couldn’t possibly cross the entire Laine on foot, so he had to choose to fly over from above.

Fortunately, with the airship’s speed of eight hundred kilometers per hour, reaching the Emerald Dream Forest would take less than a day.

Thus, Amberser Xiu flew with great fanfare over the lush forest, then casually chose a place to land.

He was there to meet the Lady of Mist, there was no need to alert the Druids; as long as he lay down at the edge of the Dreamweave Barrier, Amberser Xiu would be able to meet the Lady of Mist in his dreams.

The airship landed near a dark, small cave, Amberser Xiu set up a few warning trap spells, and then disembarked wearing his own Mithril Mecha to walk into the range of the Dreamweave Barrier.

Just one step in, and powerful drowsiness struck him fiercely.

Indeed, even wearing the mecha did not stop the effects of the Dreamweave Barrier.

Amberser Xiu did not resist, allowing his soul to fall into a deep sleep, but the Mana Power Furnace on the mecha did not extinguish, continuing to operate.

This was the very reason Amberser Xiu chose to wear the mecha into sleep—if he encountered an enemy while asleep, the mecha still possessed certain combat capabilities and should be able to hold out until Amberser Xiu awoke.

Just as Amberser fell asleep, he felt himself arriving in a grand palace.

The Lady of Mist, Laila, was sitting on the velvet sofa in the center, and when she saw Amberser’s arrival, the goddess showed a pleased smile.

"You’ve returned so quickly? Don’t tell me you’ve already killed that despicable rogue?"

Amberser was somewhat speechless; this goddess really wasn’t thinking straight. Did she think a lich as insignificant as himself could just kill a being of such powerful divine force?

However, conducting business required a welcoming smile, so Amberser still maintained a humble and appropriate smile as he addressed the goddess, "Respected Lady of Mist, I, a mere lich, truly lack the ability to kill the Prince of Lies. However, I bring you better news today. Wouldn’t you prefer to seek vengeance personally?"

The Lady of Mist looked puzzled, "Me? That shameless scoundrel stole my divine duties; I’m hardly stronger than a mortal now."

"But if I gave you a divine duty, would you be able to regain your original strength?"

"A divine duty? That might be too modest, but, even the weakest of divine duties are a blessing from Aeo to me. As for regaining strength...I was only a lesser deity to begin with, so any divine duty would suffice."

Laila was somewhat embarrassed; she had been outmaneuvered in the past due to her negligence and her relatively weak power.

Amberser had anticipated this but didn’t mind. He told the goddess, "That’s good. I’ve found a minor deity position for you, taken from the Rose Spider Queen, a dark clergy position. Would you accept it?"

Laila was startled by Amberser’s words, "The Rose Spider Queen? How could you possibly wrest a deity position from Her?"

"Heh, it’s a bit strange for you to say that, goddess. After all, you wanted me to kill the Prince of Lies at one point. The Rose Spider Queen isn’t more powerful than that deity."

Laila, feeling a bit embarrassed and apologetic, said, "I’m not questioning you. I just thought it would take a great upheaval of the world before I’d have a chance to cunningly kill that shameless rogue. The war among deities doesn’t seem to have started yet, so how did you manage to take down the Rose Spider Queen? I’m very curious, please tell me."

Amberser didn’t hide anything and simply narrated the story of the Rose Spider Queen being punished by Aeo to the goddess.

Laila’s eyes widened in shock. She had thought that the Rose Spider Queen had only been tricked by Amberser, but she didn’t expect that all four Goddesses had been outwitted by him, and he had even severely wounded the Rose Spider Queen in retaliation.

Laila’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she looked at Amberser, "My judgment wasn’t wrong! If I had been half as clever as you, I would not have been harmed by that shameless scoundrel."

"So, the dark clergy position suits you well?" asked Amberser.

Laila replied with a bitter smile, "There’s no question of suitability. Any divine duty is similar for me; it’s just a change of power."

Amberser then inquired, "But this deity position comes from the Rose Spider Queen. If you merge with this deity position, won’t she come looking for you?"

The God of Alchemy was nearly killed by the Rose Spider Queen, and Laila was even weaker than him. If she were instantly vanquished by the Rose, Amberser would incur a great loss.

Yet Laila confidently said, "Don’t worry, I certainly have ways to conceal myself. With Azus’s help, I left behind a sliver of consciousness that merged with this land, undetectable even by that shameless rogue. Even if I merge with this deity position, no trace of power will be revealed."

That was reassuring; Amberser trusted that Laila would not joke about such matters.

He had completed half of his objective for this visit; the rest was not Laila’s concern.

Amberser asked, "Goddess, since the Master of Spellcasting helped you escape a catastrophe, you must have a good relationship with this deity, right?"

"Quite decent. Why do you ask, do you want to find Azus?"

With a slight smile, Amberser said, "Well, could I have a few words with the Magic Goddess through the Master of Spellcasting?"
