Chapter 321: Chapter 299: This War is Not Normal
Long-distance communication has always been a big problem.
Amberser hid his identity and mailed a letter under a pseudonym to James Watson, which took a full ten days to reach him.
And the letter James Watson sent back was also circuitous, taking eight days to reach Amberser.
By the time he got the letter, he first scoffed at James Watson.
"Such a big deal as Magic Dragon Armament and this is all the information you have? How useless can you be?"
Amberser felt that if he were to become the Supreme Decree of the Laine Empire, he would know everything that the people of the Imperial Capital dreamed about each night. Didn’t this old man have any personal connections at all?
Well, he couldn’t count on this old fellow, so he had to think of other ways to find out information about the Magic Dragon Armament.
"But what’s with this last line? Even if there’s a typo, it shouldn’t be wrong for such a long stretch, right?"
Amberser carefully observed that this line had been meticulously smeared, completely erasing all written content.
Amberser was curious - was this sentence a secret code this old man gave to himself? Was he afraid that others would get this letter and so he hid important information?
But there was no magic seal on the ink, just a simple smudge. How would he decipher it?
Amberser thought for a moment and left with the letter from his laboratory.
He crossed several streets and came to the other side of the city.
There, a large building had been converted into lodgings, where Katherine and the Drow Elves lived. Now there were more than twenty, and later Melina brought another twenty Drow Elves, along with tens of millions of Gold Coins.
This gift was a bit too hefty, Amberser once again confirmed that Withered Rose was the best partner, encountering generosity that made him feel ashamed; if he had known, he would have bargained more with Shael.
Katherine now lives in this building with the forty Drow Elves. The originally rough style of the Giant’s building was somewhat refined by the Elves, and now it looks much more delicate. They also planted many luminescent underground fungi, decorating the building very dreamily.
Whether it’s High Elves or Drow Elves, they all have very good taste, much nicer than Amberser’s utilitarian style.
But Amberser did not enjoy this luxurious and dreamy style; he quickly went upstairs, passing through a group of Drow Elves, ignoring their respectful kneeling, and walked all the way to the top floor.
This is Katherine’s private room, and at this time, Katherine is buried in writing at her desk.
Amberser instructed her to record all the actions of the Drow Elves, for which he had given her plenty of Memory Crystals.
Katherine probably wanted to do this job so well that she even used mind detection methods.
Katherine is a double Legendary, with not only the Ranger profession but also a Legendary Mage, making her mind detection highly successful.
But this also dealt a greater blow to Katherine when she discovered that the minds of these Drow Elves were filled with nothing but deceit and hatred. Whether their bodies were free or not, all they thought about was how to kill her and then escape this place. Beyond that, it was how to frame their companions and then climb over their bodies to gain Katherine’s trust.
Such malicious thoughts made Katherine utterly baffled; being well-fed and watered, where did all this hatred and malice come from?
She began to understand the significance of the task arranged by Amberser. She knew too little about the Drow Elves. Hence her work was even more motivated, and the parchment used to record the behavior of the Drow Elves already filled half a bookshelf.
When Katherine saw Amberser appear, she lifted her head.
This was the first time Amberser saw such a disheveled Katherine, with her hair in a mess, scratched countless times, and ink stains on her hands and face.
Katherine asked curiously, "What brings you here?"
Amberser said to Katherine, "You don’t have to work so hard. The Drow Elves have been split from the Elf Tribe for too long; it’s not something that can be accomplished in a day or two. Don’t push yourself too hard."
But Katherine replied, "I know I’m not good at anything, so I can only do as you tasked. But if I can’t even do things methodically, then it’s not a matter of not being smart enough; it’s an issue of my personal attitude. This is the decree of the gods; I will give it my all."
Well, Amberser, an unbeliever, found it hard to understand the actions of the devout.
Amberser did not press further and turned his gaze to Naomi, who was responsible for organizing the papers next to Katherine.
This Druid Girl used to live in Amberser’s private space, where it was a bit chaotic, but the space was large, and Naomi liked this kind of solitary life without having to interact with outsiders.
Lately, seeing that Katherine was under too much pressure, Amberser had Naomi come to help.
"Naomi, I need your Time Dragon Power," Amberser said as he handed over the letter from James Watson, continuing, "help me remove the stain from the last line, and see what’s written underneath."
Naomi took the letter, a wisp of translucent mist condensing at her fingertips, and gently swiped it across the stain.
Soon, bit by bit, the ink stain faded, revealing the original content.
Naomi was able to control time even before transforming into a Time Dragon; her rate of progress surprised Amberser, but what shocked him even more was the content of the letter.
"The Laine Empire is going to send troops against Tiflin? Have these Laine People gone mad?"
