Chapter 296: Chapter 274 Laine is Falling Apart
[Diga Ultraman: Friends, I’ve just turned the Laine Empire’s Supreme Decree!]
After Amberser sent this message, the first to respond was not the Dwarf Vampire, but the usually reticent Withered Rose.
[Withered Rose: What are you talking about? You turned that old dog James? I can’t understand what you mean.]
Amberser had no time to explain before the group members decisively expressed their disbelief.
[Headless Knight’s Crown: Brother, I’m usually the one who supports you the most, but this time you’ve overdone it with the boasting, even more unbelievable than the last time when the Paladins knelt before you en masse.]
[Poet: Waking up to find the world getting more interesting by the day, I’ve never had a friend like you who could blow such big smoke.]
[Mute: That’s far fetched, I don’t believe it.]
[Non-Vegetarian: Is this really how you guys chat normally? I’ve slept too long, I can’t keep up with the times.]
[Dislike humans: Above, those are my thoughts exactly. Keep blowing your trumpet, and hopefully blow it until the Supreme Decree of Laine kneels before you in tears, proclaiming they’ve found a true leader.]
[Diga Ultraman uploaded a video.]
The chat group fell into a brief silence, then Hake Stone began to spam "XXXXXX".
After hundreds of lines, he finally wrote: [Bastard, that was my creation, how has it become your achievement? You shameless Lich, that’s plagiarism!]
Amberser laughed and responded to the Dwarf Vampire: [You’ve forgotten, Desert Dwarves don’t recognize copyrights. We’re neighbors living within Dwarves’ territory.]
It was a long time before Hake Stone replied again, no one knew if he had passed out from anger or had torn up his Necromancy Codex.
Members of the Elegy Poetry Society were all shocked after watching the video uploaded by Amberser.
The most excited of them all was naturally Withered Rose.
[Withered Rose: You really managed to provoke thoughts of betrayal against Laine in that old dog, you’re a genius! Once something goes wrong in Laine, his first reaction will no longer be to maintain domestic stability, it’s going to be knocking off the Imperial Family! I’ve struggled for many years and couldn’t achieve the effect of your few words!]
Withered Rose couldn’t help herself, she was originally lounging on a velvet chaise longue reading the Necromancy Codex but now was so excited she stood pacing back and forth, no longer able to maintain her composure.
Years ago, Withered Rose had attempted to attack the Laine Imperial Capital, of course, she failed, but the unity the Laine People showed left a deep impression on her—they are fanatics who would not fear sacrifice for the sake of Holy Light.
If not for their stubborn resistance, the Laine Imperial Capital wouldn’t have awaited the return of the Silvermoon Knights, and it would have fallen to Withered Rose long ago.
Now, Amberser had managed to crack that unity among Laine with such a crucial figure as the Supreme Decree. Even if he had only the slightest unusual thoughts, it would be a significant boost to the future overthrow of Laine.
That was really incredible, how did this Lich accomplish it?
Even after watching the Memory Crystal video, Withered Rose doubted she could replicate it herself.
The elder members of the group were witnessing firsthand for the first time how powerful Amberser’s Deity-blessed mouth was. He could twist right and wrong, making people admit that he, the Lich, was looking out for Laine.
[Poet: I feel like composing a poem for you, it will surely be sung for a thousand years.]
[Diga Ultraman: Really, I appreciate that.]
A good reputation wouldn’t hurt—fame would add brand value to his products.
If everyone knew he was a Lich that the Laine People worshipped, he could double the price of his alchemical goods.
[Poet: I’ve thought of the first line. Oh elder blessed by Holy Light, why kneel before a Lich, is it because the Lord of the Dawn strayed, or has your Holy Light lost its virtue?]
Ah, this... A strange silence fell upon the group.
Even Amberser, who didn’t understand poetry, felt that this line was garbage.
It had no epic feel to it and rather sounded like a dirty joke.
[Diga Ultraman: Elder, take your time with the poem, I’m not in a hurry. Let’s get back to the matter at hand, regarding Laine, should we watch from the sidelines or add fuel to the fire?]
Withered Rose indeed wanted to add more fuel, but she had no agents within Laine itself, and Gloomyland had recently been in disarray, still recovering and unable to intervene.
As for the other Undead, they didn’t have the same deep grudge against Laine, and since Laine couldn’t exert control over these Demigods and Deities, they preferred to just watch the spectacle.
Amberser also leaned toward sitting back and observing. Although he hadn’t sold the Heroic Spirit for a good price this time, he had learned Laine’s biggest secret: the revival of the Magic Dragon bloodline and the decaying state of the Laine Empire.
Never mind that James Watson said he wouldn’t help Amberser steal the Magic Dragon Armament, human thought is interesting—just like one can’t refuse to imagine a pink elephant, some things aren’t easily dismissed once considered.
James Watson, after returning, would surely investigate the Magic Dragon Armament and then try to destroy or steal this Divine Artifact. He just verbally expressed his unwillingness to cooperate with Amberser.
By patiently waiting, Amberser believed that after some time, one would be able to see the changes in Laine, and perhaps then it would be possible to approach this Supreme Decree and acquire the Magic Dragon Armament for himself.
Without the Silvermoon Knight, and without the Magic Dragon Armament, and with the Elegy Poetry Society, a powerful undead association standing behind him, who would then be able to threaten him?
Withered Rose, seeing that everyone lacked interest in Laine, found herself unable to make much of an impact alone, so she could only ask Amberser, "Where do you think the biggest possibility for an accident in Laine lies?"
Amberser thought for a moment, then replied, "Either a change in the battle situation over at the Orc Mountains, or Tiflin and the others taking the initiative to strike. However, I guess it will be the Orcs who run into trouble first. And it should arrive soon."
While the undead discussed the collapse of Laine, at that very moment, in the Orc Mountains, Allen was on a peak, fighting with a dozen Orc Warriors.
Allen’s swordsmanship had greatly evolved. It used to be rigid and comprehensive in its execution of various moves, but now it had become unpredictable, each strike akin to an inspired masterpiece.
His Holy Light Longsword blocked the Orcs’ attacks at unbelievable angles, and after clashing several times with the Orcish weapons, it would sever them.
Such disparity was not only due to Allen’s improvement but also because these Orcs were not Legendary warriors.
They were a squad of death fighters who had scaled a secret cliff hoping to infiltrate the city and destroy the Defense Magic Array. When Allen found them, he saw two Orc Warriors slip and fall off the cliff, likely smashed to pieces.
They were unlucky to have encountered a Paladin like Allen, who disliked staying in the city and preferred wandering in secluded and desolate areas.
Even after being discovered by Allen, they still climbed to the peak bravely and charged at him.
Then, Allen broke all their weapons and effortlessly knocked them all to the ground.
But no matter how shattered their bones and weapons were, the Orcs, with bloodshot eyes, kept charging at Allen, determined to wound him even if it killed them.
Allen looked at the group of Orcs and remembered the time he had charged at the Lich.
Equally reckless and fearless, but just as powerless.
Bravery could grant Orcs additional combat strength, but in the face of such a significant power gap, it was hardly enough.
They were knocked down again, and this time, they were more severely injured and struggled to get up.
Allen addressed the Orcs, "You don’t need to die here. Your parents are still waiting for you to come home."
Just then, from among those hopeless Orcs, someone roared, "My parents are already dead inside this city! You Laine curs, go ahead and kill me too. I will return to the embrace of the Deity and wait for you invaders to go to Hell!"
Allen’s longsword trembled slightly in his hand, and eventually, it returned to its scabbard.
He no longer looked at the angry Orcs but raised his head to gaze at the sky.
Eternal, undying clouds obscured the sunlight; Allen watched the flickering lightning for a long time until an Orc cautiously leapt towards him.
Allen’s longsword swung out, but this time, it was still sheathed.
The sneaking Orc was flung away but, to his astonishment, found that his injuries hadn’t worsened much. The Paladin’s strike had been masterful, merely causing him to roll away.
Allen withdrew his gaze from the lightning, looked at the scattered Orcs, and urged once again, "You will be discovered soon by others. There is still a chance if you leave now."
As his voice fell, a dozen rays of Holy Light shone upon the Orcs, significantly healing their grievous wounds.
The Orcs looked at Allen in shock, not understanding why he would heal his enemies.
Allen insisted, "Go on, don’t think just because you’re healed that you can defeat me. If we fight again, the outcome will be the same."
The Orcs hesitated, but then the horn of the Laine People sounded, signaling the failure of their ambush.
"You curs, don’t think you can atone like this!"
The Orcs left these words behind and leaped off the cliff; gliding skins unfolded on their bodies mid-fall, allowing them to fly away into the distance.
When the other Paladins arrived, all that remained at the scene were traces of blood.
A particularly tall Paladin said loudly, "Allen, was that an Orc attack just now?"
Allen nodded, "Yes, I repelled them."
"Repelled?" The Paladin said angrily, "You let them go on purpose. This isn’t the first time, Allen. Are you betraying our country?"
Faced with such an accusation, Allen sighed and said, "General, I want to leave."
