Chapter 245: Chapter 226: Suspected Chosen of God?
Katherine’s face still held confusion and incomprehension when Amberser threw her away.
What was happening? Why had he thrown her out?
Hold on, something’s not right. Why was the Lich still holding onto her limbs with Mage Hand?
Katherine was grabbed by four glowing pale blue palms by her wrists and ankles, her whole body spread-eagled and suspended in the air in a shameful posture.
Before Katherine could struggle, a huge impact came from behind.
The silver-white sword light struck Katherine, but rather than cleave through her as it would a city wall, it merely sliced through the clothes on her back and then, with her in front, soared into the sky.
With Katherine blocking the sword light, Amberser managed to dodge just in time, although Naomi’s wings were grazed by the blade, tearing a huge gash in her right dragon wing and rendering her unable to maintain flight.
Amberser had no choice but to open his private space for Naomi to momentarily take shelter while he hovered in mid-air, supported by a Flight Spell.
At that moment, a terribly disheveled Katherine dove down from the sky on her Giant Eagle, grabbed Amberser, and gave him a fierce punch after catching him.
The fist hit hard on the Mithril armor, causing Katherine to grimace in pain. It was clear that she had not held back at all.
Clutching her fist, Katherine said angrily, "Bastard! What the hell did you just do?!"
This was the first time in her life that Katherine had been thrown out as a shield and the first time she had been abandoned, her eyes reddening with anger, she was nearly ready to fight Amberser to the death!
"You said you wanted to help me. That strike just now would have killed me if you hadn’t blocked it. The Deity’s blessing is truly amazing!" Amberser said.
The Deity’s blessing is indeed powerful. Bathed in moonlight, Katherine would not suffer any harm, not even from the Holy Slash of a Silvermoon Knight.
"You could have told me beforehand! Just now..." Katherine started to say but stopped, clamping her mouth shut and merely glared at Amberser with angry eyes.
Indeed, the Moonlight Sword had not injured her just now, but the powerful Holy Light had torn her clothes to shreds.
After being propelled into the sky, Katherine had no choice but to change her clothes before flying back. The sky was thinly clouded, and she wondered if the Lich had seen anything he shouldn’t have.
But Katherine couldn’t bring herself to voice those concerns, continuing to glare at him furiously instead.
Amberser had no idea what she was thinking; all he knew was that Katherine truly was invincible under the moonlight and had helped him trick a sword strike.
Seeing Katherine’s expression, Amberser realized that this little Elf was genuinely angry. He quickly apologized, saying, "All right, it was my fault, but the situation was too critical just now. How could I have known that old man would go for me instead of the Dwarves? There was no time to discuss it with you, it’s my mistake. I can offer you compensation as a show of sincerity."
"Really?" Katherine’s tone eased a bit.
She had a pure Soul recognized by the Deity, and if Amberser was truly apologetic, Katherine would forgive him.
However, the Lich was a smooth talker when it came to lies, and Katherine was not very trusting of him, thinking that his apology was just to placate her.
"I’ll share half of the Gold Coins I extorted from Dwarf Hoffman with you!" Amberser said, clearly pained by the thought.
Without fail, Amberser, who claimed to be repairing the God of Alchemy’s Temple, had taken one hundred thousand Gold Coins from Hoffman. It wasn’t a lot, but giving fifty thousand to Katherine was a significant concession for Amberser.
Katherine didn’t know how much money Amberser had swindled the Dwarves out of, but the fact that the Lich was willing to spend money to apologize meant she acknowledged his attitude.
"Hmph, I won’t hold it against you for now," Katherine said, although she had already cooled down substantially.
"Thank you, truly worthy of being the Elf Queen, far more generous than an Undead like me." Amberser could go on all day with the free flattery; he couldn’t afford to anger Katherine, his shield, any further.
The recent event was thus tentatively smoothed over, but as Amberser surveyed the battlefield from above, the situation looked dire.
In just tens of seconds, the Dwarves’ battle line was steadily retreating. Even with Legendary warriors joining the fight, they were still unable to withstand the Paladin forces, bright as light bulbs.
In terms of support abilities, Priests truly were second to none, able to multiply the Paladins’ combat power many times over. With their numbers growing, those lesser Legendaries were under tremendous pressure.
It was not that they couldn’t win, but to do so would require a desperate struggle.
If they fought desperately now, what would they do when the Silvermoon Knight made his move?
Amberser could clearly feel the Dwarves’ morale was lacking. These Legendary warriors seemed to have been demoralized by a previous battle, unable to perform even a third of their capabilities, with the majority of their attention on the Silvermoon Knight, fearing that a sudden strike would end them instantly.
The Silvermoon Knight indeed wanted to contribute to the battle, but with the front lines chaotically intertwined, a single swing of his sword would cut his own men in half. Hence, the old man had set his sights on Amberser, high in the sky.
That silver Giant Dragon was simply too conspicuous.
Though it had been agreed upon after discussion that it was a Druid transformed into a dragon, not a true Time Dragon, the combat power of this Dragon Knight still made the Silvermoon Knight quite wary.
The spike that had pierced his comrade’s body had been removed, and the Laine People had come to understand the potency of Magic-Breaking Weapons—almost no magic defense could stand against them; it was possible only to physically resist them with thick metal.
And that Time Dragon’s single breath could corrode the Paladins’ armor to rust, and coupled with Magic-Breaking Weapons, it was simply an insoluble problem.
When the opponent’s attack was utterly unavoidable and all one could do was dodge, it was just like the Silvermoon Knight’s Holy Slash.
Dwarves also had their Silvermoon Knight, which obviously couldn’t be ignored by the Laine people.
The Silvermoon Knight understood that if he truly let this Dragon Knight unleash his full power, no one aside from himself could withstand it on the Laine’s side.
Therefore, his first sword strike was aimed at this Dragon Knight.
However, the sword light was actually blocked?
Too far away to sense the details, the Silvermoon Knight knew clearly what had stopped his Holy Slash, unable to cut through.
While he had managed to injure the wing of the Time Dragon, it was clear that he hadn’t achieved what he intended.
Nevertheless, he needed to rest; he would be unable to swing his sword again within five minutes.
"I’ve indeed gotten old! If only I could be ten years younger."
The Silvermoon Knight knew he was drawing closer to death by the day, supposed to be enjoying his twilight years within the empire. But he was aware that the world didn’t have much time left for Laine, and he only wanted to secure more advantages for Laine before his death, to cope with the imminent upheaval.
A godly war involving deities would soon unfold among the Nine Great Kingdoms. It was not only Amberser who had this premonition, but the Laine people also knew this, which is why they were in such a hurry.
Before that chaotic future arrived, the Silvermoon Knight wanted to eliminate more enemies for Laine, to repay the empire that had birthed and raised him.
Just five more minutes, and he would be able to unleash another strike!
Even if this Dragon Knight had a Divine Artifact capable of withstanding the Holy Slash, the Silvermoon Knight didn’t believe it could be used without any consequences—the next strike would surely finish him.
However, Amberser’s counterattack wouldn’t wait for five minutes.
An initially clear night sky with sparse stars suddenly filled with dark clouds, followed by huge hailstones descending from the sky.
Ice chunks larger than a human head plummeted down, crashing onto the Laine forces’ position; even Paladins in heavy armor were knocked to the ground by these massive hailstones. The unlucky ones without enough defensive spells cast on them would lose their lives with a single hit.
Allen, standing next to the Silvermoon Knight, swung his long sword to shield the Silvermoon Knight from these immense hailstones.
No matter how vast the ice, the Holy Slash could still shatter it to pieces.
This was Allen’s duty; he couldn’t let the Silvermoon Knight waste a bit of energy on these spell attacks.
The terrifying hail lasted a full thirty seconds; the Laine Army could be said to have suffered heavy losses, with at least a hundred men killed by the hail on the spot, and numerous more injured. Laine had no choice but to order a temporary retreat.
This retreat only spanned a few hundred meters before they moved out of the hail’s reach and began treating the wounded, reorganizing the troops.
Allen, wiping ice fragments from his face, couldn’t help but exclaim, "An eighth-ring spell to control the weather! Does the Dwarf Kingdom have such a powerful Mage?"
After surpassing the seventh ring, the difficulty of casting spells increased exponentially; it wasn’t something any Legendary Mage could perform—it required a Legendary specialized in Transmutation Spells.
Yet the Silvermoon Knight shook his head and said, "It’s not weather control, it’s Ice Storm."
"Ice Storm?" Allen asked in surprise, "How is that possible with such a wide coverage?"
The Silvermoon Knight, gazing into the sky, frowned deeply.
Having spent his life on the battlefield, he had seen countless Mages, and his judgement on spells was more accurate than Allen’s. This was indeed the fourth-ring Ice Storm, which should have a maximum coverage of just over ten meters. But the power and coverage of this Ice Storm had increased dozens of times over, which was outrageous.
Could this Dragon Knight also be an extremely formidable Legendary Mage?
He might not only be Legendary, but he also had a method to significantly enhance all his spell effects, surely due to a special type of Divine Artifact.
Combining the fact that this Dragon Knight could block his strike and greatly enhance his spell effects, how many Divine Artifacts did this person possess?
What kingdom did this emerging Dragon Knight belong to, or which deity’s Chosen of God was he, and why was he opposing Laine?
Many questions lacked answers, and the Silvermoon Knight had no time to ponder—he could only tell Allen, "Pass my command, all Legends follow me into battle, prioritize killing that Dragon Knight!"
Allowing a powerful Mage to freely cast spells would be useless, no matter if the Laine people had an additional hundred thousand troops; they would simply be sacrificed to those terrifying spells.
Even if aerial combat was not the Paladin’s forte, the Silvermoon Knight was willing to risk everything to prioritize killing the opponent’s Spellcaster.
But before the Laine Legends could ascend into the air, a second round of magical bombardment arrived.
This time, it was four blazing meteors!
A ninth-ring spell, Starburst!
