Chapter 508: Chapter 268 Hypnosis?? The Ever-Doubtful Connet
Connet’s rage could no longer be contained. From the ambush to the continuous stream of bad news upon his return, all culminating in the theft of five Dimension Crystals, he was completely incensed.
Each Dimension Crystal was a precious treasure of their organization, extraordinarily valuable and also a weapon.
Now, five had been stolen in one go. How could he possibly calm down?
Pier’s face was as white as a sheet, repeatedly forced back by the aura bursting forth from Connet, equally astonished but for some reason feeling a sense of relief.
Even the Dimension Crystals had been stolen?
Then, the issues with the main cannon seemed relatively minor.
It wasn’t a matter of value, but the security level of the two was vastly different.
Standing aside, Ted was perspiring profusely, his brief shock giving way to unstoppable trepidation.
Within the Torch Organization base, only he frequented the storage facility for the Dimension Crystals most often.
Just like if someone had switched out the main cannons, the ones fallen under suspicion would definitely be Pier and his team.
"The Dimension Crystals have actually been stolen." Fernand’s complexion turned a ghastly shade of green, overlaid with embarrassment.
He was unsure when these items had been stolen. If it was after he had transferred Des to the main base, then his guilt would be colossal.
"Our so-called pride, the main base, is practically a sieve now," Kewis sneered coldly. "Even the power of the Realm of Perpetuity couldn’t stop them. Truly chilling."
Connet seemed to have calmed down as he reined in his aura, but anyone with clear eyes could see that beneath his grim cheeks lay a towering inferno of rage.
His gaze swept over Ted, but he didn’t say much, his voice heavy, "Kewis, you perform the memory search on Zog and Hector."
The faces of both Zog and Hector turned ashen, trembling uncontrollably, having heard of the dire outcomes of memory searches in the past.
Nerve damage, massive necrosis of brain cells, leading to hemiplegia, paralysis of the lower limbs, and other such sequelae...
"Me?" Kewis frowned. "Do you really need me for this? Lea should still be inside the organization, right?"
Conducting a memory search was a delicate task. The brain structure of a life form was extremely complicated; a slight misstep could trigger a chain reaction—before the memories were searched, the person could already be dead.
Kewis, still not recovered from his injuries, was not keen on this draining task.
"Leader..." Zog, pushing through his trepidation, said, "We were directly responsible, we should be the ones accountable."
"But we are just ordinary staff, following established checking procedures. If it turns out the truth has nothing to do with us, then we..."
Sacrificing oneself for the organization is one of Torch’s principles, and Zog clearly lacked such resolve, but Connet didn’t use this party line to pressure him, responding coldly instead:
"Don’t worry, Kewis will be the one to search; he is a Level A life form, his control over the Power of the Mind is beyond imagination. The two of you aren’t even Level C life forms; as long as he is careful, there will be no sequelae."
At these words, Zog shuddered all over, and even Pier looked at Connet with a complex expression.
With such a massive incident, even if the leader had directly executed Zog and the others, it wouldn’t have been unwarranted.
Yet inexplicably, the leader was considering the possibility that Zog and the others could be innocent.
He couldn’t help but feel an urge, an impulse to reveal everything, but reason stopped him in the end.
"Leader..." Zog was also stunned, his gaze vacant and then turning bloodshot as he bit out, "Let’s do it. Only in this way can I prove my innocence."
"Tsck..." Kewis let out an inexplicable snicker but, under the intense gaze of Connet’s dark eyes, he shrugged his shoulders and walked up to Zog.
He placed his palm on Zog’s forehead, and immediately Kewis’s eyes began to spin, reflecting a landscape where scenes were rapidly shifting.
Zog’s eyes rolled back as his body shook, with purple Energy vaguely converging around him, creating ripples like tidal waves.
But under the influence of the purple crystal brought out by Fernand, the energy gradually dissipated; Balzak seemed to detest the power of the mind distinctly.
"Kewis!" Connet shouted.
Although he made no physical movement, the speed of the scene transition clearly slowed, and Zog’s convulsions gradually ceased.
"...After hearing a snap, you would have completed the check on the Sunshine Split Star..."
"...Isn’t it normal for the Sunshine Split Star to have issues like this..."
The scenes continued to shake and shift, the only sounds were those after processing.
Everyone wore bewildered looks with furrowed brows, and Pier’s Adam’s apple bobbed.
Because within the scenes, Zog obeyed the off-camera voice’s orders.
Clearly, he had indeed betrayed them.
"Interesting..." Kewis suddenly spoke, "What method is this, to actually make this guy believe he has completed the check?"
"It’s not the Power of the Mind, seems like..."
Kewis didn’t finish his sentence, but everyone’s looks were slightly bewildered.
Connet was puzzled, "What do you mean? They didn’t betray us?"
"No, or rather, in their own perception, they didn’t," Kewis shook his head, and then the scenes changed, ultimately displaying a silver-white mechanical watch.
Flashing continuously.
"It’s actually... Hypnosis?" Kewis said with a tone of surprise, "Quite the revelation."
Pier watched the silver watches passing continuously on the screen, his expression drifting into abstraction for some reason.
Ted’s mind stirred, focusing on the watch, suddenly saying, "I remember now, when we searched Des’s room, we indeed found such a watch."
He quickly responded, directing someone to fetch it, as Kewis had already released Zog and moved on to Hector.
