Chapter 1558: Chapter 1558: Change of Attitude
Unexpectedly, Luo Ziling found that early the next morning, Luo Liansheng had returned to the villa.
He was just getting ready for his morning exercises when Luo Liansheng appeared outside the villa.
"Grandpa, why did you come back so early?" Luo Ziling was surprised.
"I suddenly remembered last night that I hadn’t prepared the gift for Old Sir Yang properly, so I came back first thing in the morning."
Luo Ziling replied with a smile, "You could have called me, I’d have brought the gift over, saving you all the hassle."
"I’ve prepared a special gift for Old Sir Yang, and you don’t know where it’s kept."
"Alright then," Luo Ziling didn’t say much more.
When Luo Liansheng returned, he hadn’t had breakfast yet.
Ling Ruonan was already up and, seeing Luo Liansheng back, hurriedly went to prepare breakfast for them.
Before breakfast, the grandfather and grandson went for their morning exercises together again.
Since Ling Ruonan had seen the way they practiced the day before, she wasn’t surprised to see Luo Ziling and Luo Liansheng engrossed in their practice today.
After breakfast, Wuyue prepared the car for Luo Ziling and Luo Liansheng, and the grandfather and grandson took their gift and, amidst Ling Ruonan’s reminders, left the villa.
Their departure was not as grandiose as Ling Ruonan’s.
They rode in Ling Ruonan’s old Audi A8 with only one escort car, driven by Yang Xiaodong.
All the commotion of the past two days unsettled Luo Liansheng a bit; he preferred traveling light and simply.
Ling Ruonan couldn’t persuade Luo Liansheng otherwise, and since she also had to go out today, she let them go.
But she repeatedly instructed Luo Ziling to ensure his grandfather’s safety.
Of course, Luo Ziling pounded his chest in assurance: "Mom, don’t worry, if Old Sir Yang dares to lay hands on Grandpa, I’ll risk my life to rescue him."
"You brat, do you think Old Sir Yang is my match?" Luo Liansheng laughed and cursed at Luo Ziling before getting in the car.
As the car drove toward the Yang Family Old House, Luo Liansheng didn’t talk about the meeting but chatted about other idle topics, mostly about his life in Yuezhou lately.
"Haha, when I was in the Northwest, it was a secluded life, but living in the Yuezhou Old Mansion, that’s true civilian life. Drinking tea and bragging with those old fellows, practicing calligraphy and painting daily, quite a leisurely life," said Luo Liansheng, his face full of longing.
Curious, Luo Ziling asked, "Grandpa, once things calm down, do you plan to return to the old home in Yuezhou?"
"Of course," Luo Liansheng answered without hesitation, "That’s Grandpa’s real home, when people get old, they want to return to their roots."
"But," Luo Ziling expressed some confusion, "in my memory, it’s mostly Qingfeng Village embraced by Tianshan. I really want to go back there, are you not planning to return?"
Seeing Luo Ziling ask this question, Luo Liansheng was silent for a while, then answered, "Unless there’s a reason, I probably won’t return there. After all, that was where we grandfather and grandson were exiled."
"But there is where all my childhood and teenage memories lie," Luo Ziling seemed a bit saddened.
"We can always go back, we can go together, or you can invite some friends for a trip. You could even stay there for a while. But that’s not our home, just a temporary stop. Your home is in Yanjing and Yuezhou, not the Northwest’s Qingfeng Village."
"Okay, I understand," Luo Ziling said no more.
The car soon arrived outside the Yang Family Old House.
The escort car drove ahead. After stopping at the outer sentinel, Wang Zhenjun got out from the passenger seat to communicate with the guards.
The guards let them pass without much said.
The following checkpoints only conducted routine checks without other obstructions, allowing them entry.
The car soon drove to the gate of the Yang Family Old House.
Luo Ziling was surprised to see Yang Qingyin and Chen Qiaoyu waiting at the door to greet them.
"Grandpa asked us to greet you," Yang Qingyin whispered as Luo Ziling rolled down the window, indicating for the driver to pull the car into the courtyard.
Treatment today was exceptional, and Luo Ziling breathed a sigh of relief.
What surprised him even more was seeing Yang Yunlin, who considered causing trouble yesterday, also waiting in the courtyard.
As the car drove in, he even approached them.
When Luo Liansheng got out, Yang Yunlin hurriedly came forward to greet him, "Old Mr. Luo, it’s an honor to have you here, very welcome."
"Hope it’s truly welcome," Luo Liansheng replied with a grin.
Yang Yunlin pretended not to hear, giving no response.
After Luo Ziling got out, he greeted Yang Yunlin and Chen Qiaoyu.
Yang Yunlin snorted in acknowledgment.
Chen Qiaoyu remained enthusiastic, her warm attitude contrasted sharply with Yang Yunlin’s icy demeanor.
Luo Ziling noticed that Yang Yunlin and Chen Qiaoyu both seemed to have minor injuries on their faces, indicating they might have really fought last night.
Thinking of the couple fighting over his matters, Luo Ziling felt a mix of amusement and helplessness.
"My father-in-law is ill, the doctor advised him to have good rest," Chen Qiaoyu quietly explained to Luo Ziling and Luo Liansheng as she led them inside. "He has been doing tests at the hospital these days, only returned yesterday afternoon."
Taking advantage of Yang Yunlin’s inattention, Yang Qingyin murmured, "My grandfather’s illness has been confirmed, thus my dad is in a bad mood. When he came back from the hospital and heard we were dining together, he lost his temper, almost doing something reckless."
After hearing Yang Qingyin’s words, Luo Ziling realized that Yang Yuanshan’s illness had been confirmed.
But Yang Qingyin didn’t reveal the diagnosis, and Luo Ziling refrained from asking.
Yang Yuanshan was sitting in the living room, and upon seeing Luo Liansheng and Luo Ziling enter, he stood up.
"Sir Luo, it’s been years since we last met, yet you’re still in good spirits," Yang Yuanshan cheerfully reached out to Luo Liansheng, "I truly envy you, looking like you’re in your forties at seventy-plus, anyone unaware would think we’re a generation apart."
He has been diagnosed by the hospital with lung cancer, and it’s the poorly differentiated kind.
Knowing the final diagnosis, he was troubled, and thus barely slept the previous night.
He understands well the dire consequences of low-differentiation cancer; despite a seventy-year lifespan with high power for many years, the fear of death lingers deeply.
Seeing Yang Yuanshan’s poor complexion and noticing the Yang family’s courteous welcome, Luo Ziling realized what was happening.
The Yang family hoped that their grandfather and grandson duo could lend a hand to treat Yang Yuanshan.
