Chapter 1517: Chapter 1517: Lin Lan Returns

Xie Enhua ultimately didn’t bring this matter up with Luo Ziling again, instead heading inside to talk with Ling Ruonan about it.

The mother and daughter stayed in Ling Ruonan’s room for nearly an hour, and Luo Ziling, Yang Qingyin, and Luo Yuqing didn’t go in to disturb them.

"Last night, I had a dream where I was raped and then murdered. Oh my God, it scared me to death. I woke up so scared I couldn’t fall back asleep for half the night," Luo Yuqing mentioned casually after some idle chat, bringing up her dream from the night before, "Since having this dream, I’ve been feeling a particularly ominous sense of foreboding."

Luo Ziling teased her with a smile, "Regretting having become part of the Luo Family? Back then, you were free and carefree on your own, but now you’ve got someone tagging along and your nerves are constantly on edge."

Luo Yuqing shook her head, "It’s not a matter of regret or not. I just feel a bit stifled. Why should we have to live in constant fear every day? Is it just because others have special identities and influential families that they feel they can do whatever they please?"

Sitting nearby, Yang Qingyin opened her mouth to say something but ultimately held her tongue.

"Alright, enough with the complaints. What’s already there is just the reality we must accept," Luo Ziling patted Luo Yuqing lightly on the shoulder, chuckling, "Anyway, be cautious for now—it’s never wrong to err on the side of care. Let’s hope those people trying to make things difficult for us realize that ’an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.’"

Luo Ziling’s words made Luo Yuqing’s eyes light up, and she nodded vigorously, "We ought to make them understand—’an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.’"

Yang Qingyin also grasped the meaning behind the words, and her heart skipped a beat.

She knew that if Luo Ziling truly intended to make others understand this principle, he would inevitably take some extreme measures to demonstrate the Luo Family’s might. Just like during the Yang Yunzhong incident—something bound to trigger a massive uproar.

Yang Qingyin strongly believed that the Yang Yunzhong incident had been planned and executed by either Luo Ziling or someone under his command.

She hated Yang Yunzhong with a passion for trying to ruin her, but she also understood that the aftermath of that event had incited Yang Yunlin’s and Yang Yuanshan’s fury, making everything so complicated. If Luo Ziling caused another major incident this time, things would only become even messier.

Yet, thinking of the multiple times Ling Ruonan and Luo Ziling had been targeted, she couldn’t bring herself to voice any words of caution.

After finishing lunch, Yang Qingyin took her leave, and Luo Yuqing left with her as well.

Luo Yuqing was planning to visit Ouyang Feifei. The two women intended to discuss matters related to Qingniao Media. If time permitted, she planned to attend her classes in the afternoon as well.

The new semester had just begun, and there were plenty of responsibilities as a student council officer. In the evening, Luo Yuqing still needed to chair a meeting of student council officials.

Ling Ruonan wasn’t idle either—she busied herself handling various matters at home, delegating several tasks to Wuyue.

Luo Ziling, meanwhile, had nothing specific to occupy himself.

In the afternoon, he received a call from Lin Lan, who mentioned she was nearby and planned to stop by shortly to meet both Luo Ziling and Ling Ruonan.

Luo Ziling quickly grasped Lin Lan’s intent—it was clear she wanted to visit discreetly without leaving any trace. He instructed Wuyue to ensure Lin Lan wasn’t obstructed.

When night fell, Lin Lan appeared at Ling Ruonan’s villa, accompanied by Wuyue, who led her in through an unassuming entrance rather than the main door.

After escorting Lin Lan inside, Wuyue resumed her work elsewhere.

"You’ve worked hard," Luo Ziling said to Lin Lan with a smile. "Take a couple of days to rest."

"Was it seamless?" Lin Lan tilted her head as she asked Luo Ziling, "Even I didn’t expect it to turn out so effectively."

"The bus collision must have been a coincidence, right?"

Lin Lan simply nodded and didn’t elaborate.

After a moment’s pause, she softly asked, "Is there anything else you need me to do?"

"For now, there’s nothing you need to do. Just take a couple of days to rest," Luo Ziling said, once again flashing a smile. "How about you stay here tonight? I could check your condition for you."

Lin Lan’s face instantly flushed—she had misunderstood Luo Ziling’s intentions.

"Would your mom have any objections?" She lowered her head, displaying a bashful, girlish demeanor.

Seeing Lin Lan like this, Luo Ziling realized her misunderstanding, which left him feeling a bit embarrassed.

"I meant to examine and treat you, to see how well your recovery is going. In any case, there are guest rooms here. If you want to stay, it’s absolutely fine."

Lin Lan cast a peculiar glance at Luo Ziling but didn’t immediately agree or refuse. Instead, she posed another question: "Should I see your mom again?"

"It wouldn’t hurt—you’ll likely bump into her anyway, so why not?"

"Then take me to her."

Luo Ziling nodded and led Lin Lan to Ling Ruonan’s room.

Ling Ruonan was busy with her work when Luo Ziling and Lin Lan entered. She immediately put down what she had been doing as she saw them come in.

Ling Ruonan glanced at Luo Ziling, then at Lin Lan, and finally spoke softly, "You’ve worked hard."

"Mom, I just want to make things more complicated," Luo Ziling explained.

Ling Ruonan nodded but immediately added, "This incident doesn’t seem to be their doing."

"Who else could it be?" Lin Lan looked at Luo Ziling.

Luo Ziling replied, "The most likely suspect is Chen Jiahai."

Lin Lan didn’t respond.

Ling Ruonan looked at Lin Lan and gently reminded her, "Be careful not to let anyone know what you’re doing."

"If I don’t want anyone to know my whereabouts, then no one will be able to track me," Lin Lan said calmly, then added softly, "I’ll leave soon—I won’t alarm anyone."

When Lin Lan declined his earlier suggestion and decided not to stay overnight, Luo Ziling was somewhat surprised.

Lin Lan glanced at him but didn’t offer any explanation.

Left with no choice, Luo Ziling said further: "Mom, Lin Lan’s body hasn’t completely recovered yet. I’ll examine her later to see if there’s a need for more treatment."

"Alright," Ling Ruonan nodded before asking Lin Lan, "Have you had dinner yet?"

Lin Lan shook her head.

"Then prepare some dinner for her," Ling Ruonan instructed Luo Ziling.

Luo Ziling naturally agreed.

The three didn’t exchange any further words as Luo Ziling and Lin Lan left Ling Ruonan’s room.

"Hungry?" he asked, "I’ll prepare dinner for you."

Lin Lan didn’t refuse. "Can I use your room to take a shower?"

"Of course," Luo Ziling smiled. "Let’s do the examination and treatment in my room later."

Lin Lan nodded, said nothing more, and went to Luo Ziling’s room.

Luo Ziling made a serving of fried noodles with two fried eggs for Lin Lan and brought it upstairs.

As he carried the food up, Lin Lan had just finished her shower.

Since she didn’t bring any spare clothes, she wore Luo Ziling’s clothes after the shower.

Lin Lan’s tall figure fit loosely into Luo Ziling’s outfit, appearing slightly awkward but also enticing.

"I washed the clothes I changed out of. Can you dry them for me later? I’m feeling tired—I want to nap for a bit before I leave," Lin Lan said, moving closer to Luo Ziling. In a small voice, she asked, "Does your mom resent me? I feel like her gaze toward me is somewhat strange."

"She’s probably considering whether to make you a candidate for her future daughter-in-law," Luo Ziling teased lightly.

Lin Lan’s face turned bright red in an instant.
