Chapter 987: Chapter 987 Mountain Spirit

Feeling the formidable aura emanating from the other party, Ning Fan did not dare to take it lightly; his spiritual power had already begun to circulate within his body.

Should any danger arise, he would be able to react at a moment’s notice.

"Elder, I am not sure what my father... what exactly did he deceive you about?"

After making full preparations, Ning Fan finally spoke in a softened voice.

The White Mist Spirit glanced at him, snorted coldly, and said, "You’re quite vigilant, pretending to be respectful on the surface, but secretly, you have already started mobilizing your power, ready to strike back at any time."

Seeing his actions exposed, Ning Fan chuckled awkwardly, yet did not disperse his power, "Elder, it is precisely because of this vigilance that I have been able to survive until today."

The White Mist Spirit did not make a big deal out of it and simply stated indifferently, "Not bad, you’re indeed cut from the same cloth as your father. The first time he met me, he even thought about poisoning me."

Ning Fan’s mouth twitched, feeling that the relationship between the two did not seem to be very good.

However, the White Mist Spirit sighed deeply, filled with emotion, "Back then, your father told me he would come back to find me after he was done with his affairs. Who would have thought I’d end up waiting for his son but never seeing him return."

"Tell me, isn’t that man a swindler?"

Hearing this, Ning Fan let out a sigh of relief, slowly dispersing the power within his body, but asked curiously, "Elder, what exactly happened to my father back then? To be honest, the reason I came here this time..."

Immediately afterwards, Ning Fan explained his purpose and the circumstances leading up to his entrance into Kunlun to the White Mist Spirit.

As Ning Fan looked at him with hopeful eyes, the White Mist Spirit shook his head.

"I don’t know the whereabouts of your parents. Your father was much like you when he burst in here for some reason. After he left, there was no more contact."

"After he broke in here, I quite admired him, so I didn’t kill him, and unexpectedly, we became friends."

"Unfortunately, I am not able to leave this place."

Ning Fan asked, puzzled, "Elder, you are so powerful, why do you choose to confine yourself here?"

"Ha, powerful... What do you think I am?" The White Mist Spirit responded with an answer that took everyone by surprise, "I am the Mountain Spirit of this place, and I cannot leave for the entirety of my life."

Mountain Spirit?

Upon hearing this response, Ning Fan’s face was filled with astonishment.

He had never imagined that the White Mist Spirit would actually be the Mountain Spirit of this place.

The inherited memories indeed mentioned the existence of such beings, but he had never seen one in the Secular World.

"As you come from the Secular World, of course, you’ve never seen one," the White Mist Spirit noted, as if guessing Ning Fan’s thoughts, "The Secular World has long been depleted of spiritual energy; without nature’s spiritual energy, beings like myself cannot be born."

"I am quite curious, though, how you and your father managed to cultivate to this extent in the Secular World. It’s truly an incredible feat."

At those words, Ning Fan asked subconsciously, "Is that not logical?"

"Of course it’s not logical. You and your father are both oddities. Haven’t you noticed that the elders of the Feiyu Sect have very shallow cultivation levels?"

"They cultivate here in Kunlun and can only reach this level, but you and your father, in a place with scarce spiritual energy, have obtained more solid strength than them. Isn’t that strange?"

The White Mist Spirit looked Ning Fan up and down as if trying to see through his body.

With the White Mist Spirit’s explanation, Ning Fan realized that he and his father indeed seemed to be special existences.

But soon, he pushed that thought to the back of his mind.

"Elder, you know of the existence of deities, right?"

The Mountain Spirit paused, then displayed a disdainful expression, "You mean those creatures who were nurtured by nature and claim to be deities?"

"Creatures?"

"They may possess divinity, but to me, they’re just creatures, inferior even to me," the Mountain Spirit said contemptuously. "Relying on so-called Divine Power, they attained extraordinary abilities, but their paths to advancement are nearly all blocked, with no method of further cultivation."

"To improve themselves, they can only rely on devouring external entities, preying on each other. Do you think such beings are like deities?"

The Mountain Spirit held a clear scorn for such entities, mocking them in his tone.

Ning Fan’s eyes lit up with hope as he quickly pressed, "Elder, do you know how to turn a deity back into a mortal?"

"Turn back into a mortal?" The Mountain Spirit frowned, "I don’t understand what you mean. Deities are not mortals. They are simply beings born of nature’s spiritual energy, through divinity."

"That’s not what I mean. Actually, it’s because I have a friend who has been eroded by the Divine Power Origin of the Ice and Snow Goddess..."

Ning Fan detailed to the Mountain Spirit everything that had happened to Xu Yourong, hoping to get an answer from him.

However, after listening, the Mountain Spirit shook his head and said, "Sorry, I also do not know how to deal with this matter. I have been in Kunlun for too long and do not know the current state of these deities."

Hearing this, Ning Fan let out a sigh of regret, having thought the Mountain Spirit might know something.

"Don’t lose heart, continue your cultivation, and follow your current path; perhaps one day you’ll be able to turn your fiancée back," the Mountain Spirit comforted him. "The height of this path far exceeds your imagination; it is not something that the Secular World or even Kunlun can possess."
