Chapter 805: Chapter 805: The Conspiracy on Mount Everest
It wasn’t until the guide came to remind him that it was time to leave that Ning Fan withdrew his gaze.
"Yu Rong, wait for me, I will definitely turn you back!"
The path to climb the mountain was not easy, and with the guide leading the way, their pace was much slower than when Ning Fan and Su Qingcheng climbed alone.
"We have now entered the death zone," the guide cautioned everyone through the walkie-talkie, "please be very careful, or you may lose your life."
The guide led the group while reminding them constantly through the walkie-talkie.
In such high-altitude areas, speaking loudly was undoubtedly courting death; excessive oxygen consumption would rapidly drain their stamina.
Although they were trying to conserve energy, several people were already exhausted. They had to stop and rest after each segment of the ascent.
In the entire team, the only ones at ease were Su Qingcheng and Ning Fan, even the guide was struggling to keep up at this point.
After all, the death zone was too dangerous. He had to pay attention to the conditions along the path while taking care of the people behind him, which was far more mentally exhausting than physically.
During another rest break, the person in front of Ning Fan suddenly turned around.
"Do you need something?" Ning Fan asked casually.
The man smiled, turned off his walkie-talkie, and said, "Buddy, let’s make a deal."
"Hmm?"
"Whatever happens next, don’t you interfere," the man said, a glint of coldness flashing in his eyes.
During rests, they would all take off their masks, which was exhausting to wear for long periods.
Ning Fan remembered this guy; he was Hong Qingyan’s cousin, named Hong Li.
"We are currently in the most dangerous area of Mount Everest," Ning Fan said expressionlessly. "If you’re planning something reckless, be careful not to sacrifice yourself in the process."
"One cannot capture tiger cubs without entering the tiger’s den, and as you said yourself, it’s normal for a few people to die in a dangerous zone," Hong Li said with a brutal smile.
Ning Fan raised an eyebrow, "I’m actually quite curious, if it were Liu He coming after me, I could understand, but you’re Hong Qingyan’s cousin, and I seem to have saved your sister before."
"It’s precisely because you saved my sister," Hong Li seemed to want Ning Fan to understand as he died, "Your fighting skills are too good, not like an ordinary person at all. You’re a Martial Artist, aren’t you?"
Ning Fan neither confirmed nor denied it; the Hong Family appeared to be a wealthy household, so knowing about Martial Artists wasn’t unusual.
"I can tell you are a man with a strong sense of justice, but our plan doesn’t welcome interference from someone like you," Hong Li stated bluntly. "If you agree, I can give you half a million after we descend the mountain, as a fee."
"Stay on the sidelines and you can get half a million. I am already very sincere," he added.
Hong Li thought of Ning Fan as an ordinary Martial Artist and believed half a million would be enough to sway him.
However, Ning Fan just smiled, his eyes narrowing as he said, "Let me guess, your aunt, Hong Qingyan’s father, is the Family Head who is now seriously ill. Yesterday, you kept urging her to climb higher to find Snow Lotus, all to reach this part of the journey, right?"
Hong Li’s eyelids twitched, "What else do you know?"
"I also know that Hong Qingyan is probably the only heir in the family, right? If she died here, the line of succession would move to the others behind her, like you cousins, who would rather see her dead," Ning Fan continued.
Hearing this, Hong Li’s expression turned completely somber.
"Are these all your guesses?"
Ning Fan shrugged, "Maybe, you haven’t really been that discreet."
Hong Li’s face darkened, and after a long while, he gritted his teeth and said coldly, "Since it’s like this, I can’t leave you alive!"
As he spoke, he first untied the rope that bound the two of them together, then grabbed the climbing axe from his back and swung it viciously at Ning Fan!
This was the position Hong Li had carefully chosen, with himself at the higher ground and Ning Fan just passing an area difficult to secure a foothold.
With constant pressure, Ning Fan would have no chance to fight back!
Clang!
The next moment, the sound of metal clashing echoed.
Hong Li stared, dumbfounded, at Ning Fan, who had caught the axe between just two fingers.
He knew Ning Fan was skilled, but not to this extent!
"I’ll give you a chance," Ning Fan said coolly. "Explain your conspiracy to Miss Hong, and I might let you off."
"Go to hell!" Hong Li screamed, his face contorting, his voice almost deformed as if someone were choking him.
Hearing this, Ning Fan shook his head regretfully, "What a pity."
Before Hong Li could react, a sudden force from the axe pulled him off balance, and he tumbled forward.
Damn it!
Hong Li’s eyes widened as the endless abyss below drew closer.
"No! No! No!"
His shrill screams exploded, echoing continuously through the vast snow mountains.
Just as Ning Fan was about to go and explain to Hong Qingyan, an incredulous voice suddenly echoed from behind him.
"What are you doing?"
The woman he had previously saved was looking at him with a venomous stare, then turned and yelled towards the others.
"Murder! There’s been a murder! Everyone come quick!"
Soon, everyone gathered around, looking confusedly at the woman.
