The Wrong Hero Has Been Summoned -
Chapter 23: Becca 3
Chapter 23: Becca 3
She roared, the flames around her blazing with renewed intensity. Her armor bulged with power, and her sword grew even larger, its flames crackling wildly. It was a desperate move, pouring everything she had into one final assault.
"Enough disruption!" she shouted, charging with everything she had.
He smirked, "this is it, the rush I want." He charged to meet her head on, his mana condensing further against his body.
They collided in the center of the arena. Her sword swung down with all the force she could muster while he met it with an upward punch, his glowing fist connecting directly with the blade. The impact was cataclysmic. Blue fire exploded outward in a massive shockwave, engulfing both of them in a blinding inferno.
The crowd gasped and shielded their eyes from the intense light and heat. The entire platform beneath them cracked under the pressure, fissures spreading out like spiderwebs.
At first there was only the roar of fire—but then something incredible happened. From within the blaze, streaks of yellow began to spiral outward, weaving through the blue like lightning. Slowly but surely, they started dominating the flames.
Then came a brilliant flash as the energy released itself skyward. Like a firework detonating in reverse, it imploded back toward them before rising high above the arena in a dazzling display.
When the light faded and vision returned to normal, only one figure was left standing.
He stood over her crumpled form as she lay on what remained of the scorched platform, panting heavily but still conscious. The remains of her fire armor flickered before extinguishing completely.
"Still think I’m holding back?" he asked, offering her a hand up.
She looked at him for a moment and then let out a breathless laugh, accepting his help to stand. "Maybe just a little," she admitted hoarsely.
The crowd erupted in cheers at her defiant spirit and his overwhelming display of power.
"You weren’t kidding about that elemental mastery," he said appreciatively as she steadied herself next to him. "That last attack really had me worried."
"You should have been," she replied with a grin despite her exhaustion. "I’ll get you next time."
"I’m looking forward to it."
From above in the stands, Luna breathed a sigh of relief. "He’s okay."
Vess nodded approvingly. "And stronger than ever it seems."
Back in the arena’s center amid echoing applause and roaring spectators, he smiled genuinely for perhaps the first time that day—finally satisfied he found someone who could push him beyond limits he didn’t know existed.
The announcer’s voice boomed across the arena. "The winner is Luther!"
The crowd roared with excitement, many standing and clapping. He helped Becca walk to the edge of the platform where healers were waiting.
"You should get those burns checked," he said, noticing the red marks on her arms where her fire armor had failed.
"I’ll be fine," she said, wincing slightly. "But you... you’re something else. That yellow mana of yours isn’t normal."
He shrugged. "Maybe I’ll tell you about it someday."
She looked at him with curiosity in her eyes. "I’ll hold you to that." She turned to the healers who were approaching. "See you around, Luther."
As she walked away with the healers, Luna, Selene, and Vess pushed through the crowd to reach him.
"That was amazing!" Vess exclaimed, her eyes wide with excitement. "The way you turned her fire attack back on her!"
Luna quickly examined him for injuries. "You’re burned in several places. Let me help."
"It’s nothing serious," he said, though he didn’t stop her from treating the burns on his arms.
Selene watched him with narrowed eyes. "You enjoyed that fight, didn’t you?"
"It’s been a while since I faced someone who could push me," he admitted. "She has real talent."
"The quarterfinals are tomorrow," Luna said as she finished healing him. "You should rest while you can."
"I wonder how the matches have concluded in the other stadiums." He said as they walked towards the exit. "Let’s get something to eat first. Fighting always makes me hungry."
On the way out, many people stopped to stare or point at him. Some even approached asking where he trained, but he ignored most of them.
They reached the small tavern near the tournament grounds, and sat at their usual quiet corner table. After ordering food, he leaned back in his chair with a tired sigh.
"Only three more fights," Vess said, counting on her fingers.
"I wonder who you are facing next?" Selene asked.
"I am sure it’s someone strong if they made it this far." He said, flexing his fingers, ’I am almost there. I can feel it, just a little more.’ Luna stared at him, she could tell that he had changed, maybe she was wrong about him? maybe his arrogance wasn’t all for show?
’He still has a long way before can face the demon king and his army but at least he is changing, slow by slow he is starting to accept us...but once he enters the academy...’ They met eyes and she quickly looked away, confusing him.
They continued eating while talking about small stuff to pass the time. After they finished eating, Luther got up ready to go back to the inn to sleep.
"Huh, you are going already? We have been here for a few days and we have yet to explore, why don’t we enjoy ourselves today?" Luna asked, she really wanted to hang out with him but deep down she knew what he would say, oh so she thought.
"Hmm, well, sure, why not."
"Really!????" They all said at the same time, all confused that he actually agreed.
"Why are you acting like I just said something shocking." He started walking, "let’s go shopping, I think I am going to need armor for my matches from now on." They looked at each other, smiled and followed behind him quickly.

Deep under the city, a meeting was being held.
"So, how is the plan coming along?" A demon asked, looking at the other demons around him.
"Everything is going according to plan, this city will fall under our control. Then maybe the king will take us back." He said until he noticed the female demon spaced out.
"What’s wrong with you, why are you spacing out so much?"
she looked at him and smiled, "I found a very handsome guy, he has the stench of a goddess on him."
"What did you just say?" The leader asked, his voice filled with malice.
