Chapter 338 - 318 Task Completion 150%
Chapter 338: Chapter 318 Task Completion 150%
"Nice, so you were really keen on that kid. Okay, what do you want to bet?"
asked.
"I bet two temporary employment spots."
replied.
"Wow, aren’t you betting a bit too much?"
exclaimed.
Even Key Man, who had been focusing on drinking coffee, looked up.
The admission threshold for the Border Control Agency was still very high, and the selection process was relatively fair.
Aside from a few powerful departments and those major legislators, it was almost impossible for outsiders to intervene.
However, for internal employees, the Border Control Agency still offered some benefits.
Each regular employee, depending on their level, could recommend different numbers of people to take up temporary jobs at the Border Control Agency.
The selection for temporary workers did not use up the spots from the public selections, and the difficulty was relatively lower.
And the number of people 8848 and 4399 at their level could recommend was just two.
"If we’re going to bet, we might as well bet big, or else it’s not worth it."
said calmly.
"Alright, I’ll take that bet. But I want to change it up, I bet he doesn’t complete 100%."
said.
"Agreed."
nodded.
"Man, you shouldn’t have agreed so readily."
suddenly sighed.
"Hmm?"
"The bet is set, but it’ll still be several days before that kid comes back. What are we going to do for fun in the meantime?"
said with a worried tone.
Every time he came to send someone through, he felt like he was coming to prison.
"Let’s play cards."
Key Man suddenly spoke, then pulled out a deck of cards from a drawer.
The cards were kept in an iron box, which had a grinning Demon printed on it.
"Playing cards is fine, but we need to play for stakes."
said.
"I’m not playing. I still need to save my salary for a down payment."
Key Man shook his head in refusal.
"Who would play Demon cards without stakes? I’m not a masochist like 4399."
rolled his eyes.
"Speak for yourself, leave me out of it. Hmm?"
and 8848 simultaneously turned towards the Gate of the Border.
"No way, did that guy come back so quickly? Hope he didn’t freak out and run back."
lamented.
Even though he was about to win the bet, he didn’t look happy.
Because, the procurement tasks from City Hall were actually linked to their job performance.
The higher the completion rate of tasks by people going out, the more their quarterly bonuses increased, along with promotions, housing allocations, training, and other benefits.
That was why the two of them readily agreed on the bet, win or lose, they weren’t going to lose.
But if Liu Zheng’s task completion was too low, then both of them would lose.
Because they had both paid a significant price to get the chance to send him out.
"We’ll know once he comes in."
remained calm.
He signaled to Key Man, who nodded and pressed a button on the office desk.
An inspection belt, like those used in subways, extended from the Gate of the Border, but it didn’t activate.
and 8848 stood on either side of the belt, one holding a baton and the other a pistol.
Should any danger arise, they would not hesitate to annihilate Liu Zheng, from body to soul.
"Begin."
told Key Man.
The latter pressed a switch and the machinery started making noise. The conveyor belt began to roll forward.
Two bare hooves appeared first in their view, followed by two legs bending outward and two furry cat paws.
"I must admit, I’m getting tempted."
slurped his saliva.
"Are you craving goat hooves or cat paws?"
asked.
"Of course, it’s the goat hooves. Cats are too cute, how could I eat a cat?"
said disdainfully.
"Heh. You want to eat, I’ll just have him chop off two for you later; they can grow back anyway."
"Forget it, my fortune can’t support enjoying Black Mountain Goat Cub legs; gonna ask for a loan at a restaurant, you lending me some money then?"
smirked.
"I’ll lend you a coffin to collect your corpse."
said without expression.
"Tch."
As they bantered, Liu Zheng and San Huamao’s entire bodies were also transported through.
"Hold on a second."
motioned to him not to move.
His tone was relatively friendly, but the barrel of the gun was already glowing.
Liu Zheng had no intention of moving recklessly anyway.
This gun could shoot back even unknown Evil Gods in one shot, let alone evaporate him instantly.
"Ding!"
A prompt sounded, and the green indicator light on the conveyor lit up.
"Welcome back to Metropolis."
put away his gun, pulled Liu Zheng up, and patted him on the shoulder.
While 8848 picked up San Huamao, rubbed it a few times, and then placed it on the floor.
"Thanks, how long was I out?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"Exactly 24 hours."
glanced at his watch.
"That was quick..."
He had planned to stay in Yate for a full seven days.
"We thought it was quick too. So, did you complete your procurement tasks?"
asked eagerly.
"I guess it’s completed?"
Liu Zheng said, not very sure.
After all, there were no quantity requirements or weighting factors in the task catalog.
"Let’s weigh it then."
went behind the desk and pushed out a cart with a weighing machine.
"Ah? Oh."
He twitched at the corner of his eye while looking at the weighing cart.
Stuff from Metropolis always managed to give him a scare.
Liu Zheng took out everything required by City Hall from his system space and placed them one by one onto the weighing cart.
"Very good, very good."
watched the needle swing continuously right, nearly bursting with laughter.
As each item was weighed, a flash of white light occurred, causing the items on the weighing cart to vanish on the spot.
