Chapter 200: Chapter 199: Fart Spirit Technology, Unrivaled in the World
Three Spirit projectiles flew toward the Insect Tower at an extremely fast pace.
However, their trajectory was not a straight line.
They neither flew in a straight line nor a curved one, but rather like a set of threads of varying lengths.
These threads had no discernible pattern and sometimes even intersected, nearly causing them to collide with one another.
But in this suicidal style of flying, the three little green creatures actually took delight, even intentionally seeking this thrilling effect.
It was less a battle or a competition and more like they were playing.
Not to mention the strictly disciplined crew found it annoying, even Liu Zheng was somewhat speechless.
Of course, the Major as a driver wouldn’t really hand him something useless.
Soon, the three Spirit projectiles demonstrated their capabilities.
Although they were flying playfully, they continued to get closer and closer to the Insect Tower.
The swarm quickly adjusted its pace, and a portion of the sonic barrier moved to enclose them.
The three Spirit projectiles had no intention of dodging, and even excitedly charged straight into the sonic barrier.
As they collided, a green light emitted from the three green creatures and quickly connected into one.
The sonic barrier, which could block dozens of projectiles without any damage, was trivially penetrated by the Spirit projectiles shrouded in green light.
In fact, this action seemed to spur their competitive spirit.
The three Spirit projectiles stopped playing and charged directly toward the Insect Tower, quickly reaching within a hundred meters of it.
This certainly stirred up a hornet’s nest.
All the bugs in the Fungal Blanket woke up, burst out of their burrows, and flew toward the Spirit projectiles.
The sky was almost completely obscured by the dense mass of bugs, their sheer numbers sufficing to block this airspace.
And their numbers were not their only advantage.
Poison gas, poison thorn, Poison Liquid, poison needle, mouthparts, whirlwinds, ice spikes, fireballs...
Physical, magical, and indescribable attacks rushed toward the Spirit projectiles like a storm.
The three green creatures, thrilled rather than frightened, maneuvered the projectiles with moves that real-world ace pilots couldn’t possibly perform, diving up and down in the air.
Sometimes zigzagging, sometimes in an S-shape, sometimes even flying upside down.
With these extreme maneuvers, most of the attacks were dodged.
The few that did hit were neutralized by the green light emanating from their bodies.
"Captain Maria, you can get ready now,"
Liu Zheng immediately said upon seeing this.
"Understood. Kasichen, Kolobanov, get ready,"
ordered Captain Maria.
The loader placed his hand on the lock of the ammunition box, while the gunner positioned his hand on the firing mechanism.
All crew members were waiting for a real opportunity.
And the opportunity came quickly.
Seeing that their attacks were ineffective, with the Spirit projectiles drawing ever closer, the Insect Tower could no longer hold back.
The upper half of the Insect Tower suddenly disintegrated, and numerous giant bugs flew out toward the Spirit projectiles.
Despite their larger size, these bugs flew much faster and were more agile than those from the Fungal Blanket, even managing to keep up with the trajectory of the Spirit projectiles.
Soon, the three Spirit projectiles were blocked by these giant bugs.
The Fungal Blanket bugs launched another round of attacks, locking onto the figures of the Spirit projectiles.
This time, they had no way to dodge.
But that was okay, as their mission had already been accomplished.
"Fire!"
ordered Captain Maria sharply.
Kasichen, with a speed Liu Zheng couldn’t see, opened the ammunition box and shoved a Spirit projectile into the chamber.
Kolobanov pulled the trigger the moment the loading was complete.
One, two, three, four, five.
Five Spirit projectiles were almost chased out of the cannon, joining the chase.
The swarm was taken aback and immediately split off a portion to pursue this new force.
And the remaining half of the Insect Tower also crumbled, rushing toward these five Spirit projectiles.
When the Insect Tower had completely collapsed, the being at the center of the nest finally revealed itself.
Contrary to Liu Zheng’s expectation, it was neither a huge bug egg, nor an overgrown queen-like bug, nor a breeding chamber crawling with larvae.
It was a woman’s head, the size of a normal woman’s head, even her appearance was as ordinary as any regular woman.
She was looking up, eyes open, and her head was still turning, which made it seem like she was observing the situation in the air.
However, her empty gaze made one wonder if she truly still had any awareness.
No need to capture bugs for interrogation, intuition told Liu Zheng that this woman was the very Chen Xiaoxue he was seeking.
"Captain Maria,"
he called out.
"Full speed ahead."
Captain Maria immediately understood.
"Little Kitten" let out an irritable roar and sped toward the center of the nest.
Despite the fungal blanket being as soft as mud, it still felt almost like a highway in front of the tank’s wide tracks.
The swarm noticed the situation below and got disordered for a moment.
Such few insects, stopping these eight highly agile "fart spirits" shells was hard enough, let alone splitting up to block the tank.
But not blocking was not an option, either.
A dozen insects broke away from the blocking squad and flew toward the tank.
"Let me handle it."
This time, Captain Maria did not let Liu Zheng take control but took on the role of the machine gunner herself.
In Liu Zheng’s hands, the anti-aircraft machine gun could only fish for targets with a barrage of fire, but in the hands of this decorated commander, it was almost like a sniper rifle.
With just one burst of fire, she took down three insects.
And it was not that she only hit three, but the others hit were either especially hardy or had life-saving measures.
The other insects that survived the onslaught immediately increased their altitude; however, the modified anti-aircraft gun had an effective range of up to 4000 meters, and they simply had no time to get away.
"Xa! Xa! Xa!"
Captain Maria let out a hearty laugh while controlling the anti-aircraft gun to chase down the remaining insects.
The rest of the crew exchanged smiles.
In that final battle, Captain Maria had led them toward an enemy force many times their size while laughing just like this.
A soccer field’s distance, neither long nor short.
The tank quickly arrived in front of the woman’s head.
"Are you Chen Xiaoxue?"
Liu Zheng asked through the tank’s loudspeaker.
However, the woman’s head had no response.
"I need to step outside for a moment."
He frowned and said to Captain Maria.
"Karsen, you go out with Commander Comrade."
Captain Maria, without even looking, commanded.
Karsen nodded, leading the way out of the tank cabin.
After confirming there were no anomalies outside, he motioned Liu Zheng to follow.
Liu Zheng then climbed out of the tank cabin, and under Karsen’s protection, approached the woman’s head.
"Are you Chen Xiaoxue?"
He asked again.
However, the woman’s head still did not respond.
"I know the security guard in your office building; he asked me to deliver this takeout to you and also asked me to kill you. He used to be an editor."
Liu Zheng thought for a moment and then said.
Hearing the word "editor," the gaze of the woman flickered slightly.
This brief fluctuation was very short and very subtle.
If it weren’t for Liu Zheng’s highly enhanced perception, it would have been impossible to notice.
However, he caught it.
So he confirmed that this woman was indeed Chen Xiaoxue.
"This is what he ordered for you, eat it while it’s hot."
Liu Zheng took the takeout from the box and crouched down, handing it to Chen Xiaoxue’s lips.
Fish head milkshake, not a milkshake served in a fish head, but a milkshake made by blending fish brains and cream.
The milkshake had a creepy gray-green color, and its consistency was neither solid nor liquid but gelatinous with a glassy texture, looking unappetizing.
"Name: Fish Head Milkshake"
"Type: Item"
"Quality: Excellent"
"Effect: Restores physical strength, Spirit +1."
"Note: A milkshake not delivered eight years ago, when delivered now, comes to a completely different life."
Chen Xiaoxue looked at the milkshake indifferently, her face expressionless.
But her mouth kept opening and closing, yet unable to drink the milkshake in the cup.
Liu Zheng slightly tilted the cup, allowing the milkshake to flow into Chen Xiaoxue’s mouth down the inclined cup edge.
She bit hard on the cup, with such force that Liu Zheng wondered if she might break the steel edge.
And her throat kept making swallowing motions, like someone about to die of thirst reaching for the spring of life.
The already scarce milkshake quickly ran out under such fierce gulping.
Liu Zheng poured the last bit into Chen Xiaoxue’s mouth, then threw away the cup and stood up.
"Chen Xiaoxue, your takeout has been delivered."
He slowly drew the boning knife, then swiftly and cleanly decapitated Chen Xiaoxue.
