Chapter 972 - 499
Chapter 972: Chapter 499
Ivita chuckled as he had waited in the sky for half the day, biding his time. The Emperor’s army, teeming with numerous races and languages, was held together only by faith.
It seemed massive, yet it had its significant issues.
Ivita had observed from above and identified the army’s blind spots.
’Going head-to-head with the Emperor’s army is foolish. Emperor Oyo III is more stable than both Henry VII and Jalen; he is bold and astute. Although he had to relinquish many imperial rights to gain the nobles’ support when he ascended the throne, as time passed, he has been reclaiming what he lost.’
’A direct confrontation with Oyo III poses great risks, and I may not be able to win.’
’Even with my personal combat prowess, the odds of defeating him are not very high. The universal Law, although damaged and incomplete, is still troublesome.’
Moved by a thought, Ivita saw a path outside the camp of Oyo III’s army, where a group of Tauren hauling carts filled with military supplies was entering his encampment.
The Tauren were strong but dressed in tattered clothes, and their shoes were mere straw sandals, many of which were falling apart. They bore many scars yet pulled the cargo like animals for the Emperor’s army.
Around the necks of the Tauren hung wooden digits that represented the sacred number 4, signifying their faith in the God of All Things. Ironically, when whipped and hurried by the Emperor’s soldiers, their prayers to the God of All Things had to include the name of Emperor Oyo III.
Because in the Holy Empire, the Emperor and the Pope are seen as guides to the path of earthly redemption. Without such guidance, how could anyone find the way to salvation?
Ivita transformed into a crow and landed on the cart behind them.
The Tauren were about to enter the encampment, but it was shielded by the damaged universal Law: the Holy Protection, which Ivita could not penetrate.
Just as the Tauren were about to bring the goods through the camp gates, an officer of the Emperor’s army stopped them. He contemptuously looked over the Tauren and, upon seeing the banner of the Emperor’s family, a flash of rage crossed his eyes.
Lowly Tauren, how dare they serve the Emperor like them?
Even though they had converted to the Church, they were still not of their race.
The officer rudely stopped the Tauren. "You can stop here and leave the supply carts. I’ll have someone bring them in."
"You Tauren shouldn’t enter our encampment. You can roll out and camp outside. Don’t stay with us. Roll out."
The Chieftain of the Tauren, disheartened, recalled how their homeland in the Potzstan Duchy had been invaded and their territories occupied, eventually seeking refuge in a foreign land by converting to the Church.
They believed in the sacred descriptions of the Emperor embedded within the Church’s prayers, thinking it was truly a world that disregarded racial and linguistic differences, a world where everyone protected each other and all beings were siblings in an ideal society.
But the reality was vastly different from the ideal.
It was only after arriving here that they realized their suffering had just begun.
Once the freest warriors along the narrow northern coasts, the Tauren were now viewed with disdain and treated like oxen.
The Tauren Chieftain glanced at the camp’s interior, at the weapons brandished by the soldiers, and immediately suppressed his defiant heart.
The Tauren Chieftain tried to argue his case. "Sir, we too are followers of the God of All Things and loyal soldiers of His Majesty the Emperor. Please let us enter the camp to rest."
"We will all be powerful subjects of His Majesty."
However, the chieftain’s boastful words not only failed to impress the human officer but instead ignited his fury. "Enough! You are only our oxen. What else do you want? The Empire is for humans, not for you. The Church belongs to humans, not to you Tauren. You think converting to the Church makes you the same as us? Ridiculous."
"Who gave you this illusion..."
The next moment, the steel-like arm of the Tauren Chieftain grabbed his throat. The Chieftain, with the strength of a Knight Marquis, automatically unleashed the Evil Qi Domain, transforming it into the Blood Ox Domain, with boiling Blood Ox hoofprints marking the discontent in the surrounding ground.
The Tauren Chieftain glared at him. "Scoundrel..."
The human officer was panicked, but many mid-level human officers in the camp heard the commotion and quickly came out. Seeing what had happened, they immediately reacted.
"Are you trying to rebel, Tauren? I knew you people never truly believed in the God of All Things. Does your current behavior befit a believer?"
"Their race lacks decency; how could they possibly truly believe in our god, our belief is ultimately only for humans."
Seeing the accusations from the crowd and the confusion and horror of his fellow Tauren warriors, along with their barely controlled urge to attack, the Tauren Chieftain immediately dropped the human officer and spoke after a few seconds of silence, "I understand. This was just a minor conflict between us."
"We will leave the camp."
