Chapter 931: Chapter 481 Raven Rules and the Heretic

Ivita had never realized how inconvenient the Law could be. As he traveled from the western border of Alsace to the Raven Kingdom, he didn’t know how many Laws he would encounter along the way.

Originally, this short distance could have been covered in an instant with Spatial Magic in the Star Realm.

Now, however, he could only traverse the wilderness that lay in the interstices of the various Law-ruled regions.

But the Laws he primarily avoided were those at the kingdom level and duchy level. Other regional independent Laws had limited power and couldn’t restrain Ivita.

For example, when he passed through Gradenburg within the Holy Empire, he discovered a niche Law called the Mycelium Law. It seemed to be because a large portion of the local human population had some fungal heritage in their bloodlines.

The fungal people digested the bottom layer of the local ecological chain, facilitating the area’s ecological cycle. Every person entering had to allow some mycelium to attach to their bodies, enabling the Law to monitor outsiders.

However, when Ivita passed through, he simply ignored this Law, suppressed the mycelium of the Law, and then used Spatial Magic to leave the area directly, causing the local Law to become quite angry—as did Gradenburg’s ruler, the Earl.

There were many such independent Laws within the Empire. This was because some Imperial Emperors tore the universal Law and bolstered the independent Laws of local vassal countries. Conflicts between these Laws and the universal Law meant that the Empire’s vassal countries became in effect many independent nations.

When Ivita bypassed the Imperial Emperor’s direct crown territories and entered the territory of the Raven Kingdom from the border of the Sylimia Kingdom, he was still slightly shocked. By then, the landscape of the Raven Kingdom was shattered, and the Raven Law of the Raven Kingdom seemed to be devoured by the Law of the heretics, which was nearing the universality of Law.

But it was still struggling.

The conflict between Laws caused there to be several inconsistently sized suns in the sky above the Raven Kingdom, a physical distortion created by the clashing Laws. These suns, from different phase planes, were now all appearing over the lands of the Raven Kingdom.

The kingdom’s land was struck by severe drought.

Grasses, flowers, and trees on the surface of the land sustained the most damage; almost all the topsoil was compacted due to the drought. The surface organisms were all dead.

This apocalyptic scene was only slightly better than the old days of the Lombardy Duchy.

One after another, the strange corpses of ravens died on their land, where many small raven stone sculptures also lay broken or dull, as though everything had lost its vitality.

"According to the information I saw in the Alsace Palace," Ivita stowed away the Titan Flying Boat and the Copper Boat Magic and transformed into a Dragon Hawk, hiding in the world, observing this land. "The envoy of Raven Law is a special kind of raven called the Raven..."

"The Raven Law has its own Raven Knights—the Black Feet Army—long standing on the frontline of war against heretics, the shield of the Church against the heretics. No wonder Pope Innocent II repeatedly sought monarchs to join the crusade. Could the war of faith have become so severe?"

In the hills of the Raven Kingdom, Ivita saw a small village hiding deep in the mountains, home to a little over two hundred people who were now suffering from both hunger and thirst. Moreover, the weather was intensely hot, and everyone was like a walking corpse, living each day as if it could be their last.

Ivita felt a tinge of sympathy and, with a thought, summoned a downpour above the village. The expressions on the faces of everyone in the village gradually broke away from numbness, followed by doubt and fear, and then all turned to wild joy.

The crops in the fields grew wildly, as if they had experienced seasons of growth overnight.

Ivita glanced at the village’s raven statues that shimmered with some light, then left the area. "According to the information I’ve obtained, the so-called Raven Law was a Law established at the beginning of the Raven Kingdom to create channels of heart-to-heart communication among people. Before the establishment of the Raven Kingdom, the Raven people, due to inheritance law issues and uneven distribution of benefits, often acted on their own and lost many interests."

"After that, the Raven Law was established. Ravens helped convey people’s inner thoughts, building an orderly and harmonious society. Normally, as soon as one entered the kingdom, the ravens and their statues would have noticed me, but now the Raven Law only detected me when I revealed myself. It seems to have declined to the extreme,"

"About to be consumed by the Law of the heretics."

Ivita thought, allowing the heretics to obtain the Raven Law’s network of raven hearts would be troublesome. Yet ultimately, his primary goal was still to search for the Dragon King’s Fire within the Doomsday Volcano and leave other matters for later.

Because the Law of the heretics was unevenly dispersed over this suffering landscape, Ivita dared not act rashly and could only disguise himself as an ordinary person, blending among the people, and began moving gradually toward the Doomsday Volcano.

’The Frankish people placed the Dragon King’s Fire there, probably also intending to use the Pagan Empire to ensure both Jalen and I cannot retrieve the Dragon King’s Fire.’ Ivita realized, significant, but he guessed the Frankish people hadn’t anticipated that in the face of a nearly complete universal Law, he would still brave solitude and stealth to approach the Doomsday Volcano.
