Chapter 851: Chapter 446: Entering the Water Capital and the Council of 10 People
Ivita expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the Witch Corps of Epirus, tactfully omitting the presence of the Iron Mountain Knight during the process.
As both parties were enjoying the pleasantries, there was no need to spoil the mood unnecessarily.
After all, the Iron Mountain Knight was already on his side, managing Cross Island, and it seemed that the witches of Epirus didn’t care about a once-prominent knight protector.
Perhaps the southern witches had even forgotten about the Iron Mountain Knight.
Ivita stayed in Epirus for another whole day, where he exchanged magic knowledge with the Witch Corps. He realized he should not underestimate the magic heritage of the Epirus Witch Corps, as they had their unique expertise in Mind Magic.
This was a field not extensively covered in the Ancient Library.
From them, Ivita acquired three spells: "Mind Teleportation," "Mind Bomb," and "Mind Occupation." In return, Ivita generously shared numerous spells documented in the Ancient Library, originated from ancient tribal shamanic ceremonies, benefiting both parties immensely.
This also caused the Witch Corps, especially Old Witch Papal, to remain indignant about why a humble mortal could usurp Alsace’s throne and manage the true essence of magic, while Ivita ’humbly’ deferred to him.
Old Witch Papal took the initiative, when Ivita and the Hearthstone Witch were leaving, she followed them and expressed her intention to support Ivita during his visit to The Three Republics, to prevent such a grand wizard from being underestimated by superficial mortals.
Ivita, along with the crew who had been staying at Morton Mansion, set sail once again.
On the deck, as they moved away from Epirus, the Hearthstone Witch sighed in relief as Old Witch Papal went back down into the cabin. She then secretly said to Ivita, "Who would have thought that in a small country like Epirus, right at The Church’s doorstep, a subspace Demon God was hiding. The four great Demon Gods of subspace have invaded countless medium and large worlds."
"It’s a relief we left, or wouldn’t you have conflicted with that Demon God?"
The Hearthstone Witch’s eyes shifted. "Do you think, if we sold this information to The Church, we could earn a reward from them?"
"..." Ivita said, "The Witch Corps are now our allies."
"The alliances among witches are hardly stable," the Hearthstone Witch reminded Ivita. "They could betray their own alliances at any moment for greater benefits."
"If you ever find yourself opposing the witches and wizards, they might not stand by your side. They are currently aligned with us merely due to their disdain for mortal lords. Even if we betray them, they won’t find out."
Ivita frowned, fearing that the Hearthstone Witch might contact other witches behind his back, attempting to steal the aura of Demon Gods, disrupting his alliance with the Witch Corps, or even affecting the Demon God egg that already belonged to him.
He disclosed to the Hearthstone Witch, "Don’t do such foolish things, Hearthstone. You can consider that the demonic aura seeping out from that subspace rift was deliberately released by me. Just remember, if you dare to share this information with anyone, I cannot guarantee your safety."
The Hearthstone Witch was terrified to see a threat in Ivita’s eyes.
The Hearthstone Witch was instantly alarmed and realised with terror that she had overlooked a possibility—the Demon God might actually be Ivita himself.
The Hearthstone Witch was suddenly unsure of Ivita’s intentions, and quickly changed the subject, "Where are we heading next, Your Highness?"
Ivita said, "To the esteemed Aristocratic Commercial Republic, the largest maritime trading empire in The Mediterranean. That country is key. If they make a choice, the other two republics will also decide."
"The other two republics have recently suffered invasions of their commercial interests by the foolish Imperial Emperor Aoyue III, even their lands have been taken. Only the Aristocratic Commercial Republic, not only the strongest among the republics but also currently has no conflicts with the reigning emperor."
Ivita precisely grasped the crux, "Therefore, that is the key. If they ally with us, the other two republics will not hesitate to join us immediately. If they choose neutrality, or even side with the Empire and Alsace, then the other two republics might not choose to directly join our side."
"If that’s the case, then the envoys from the Empire and the King of Alsace will surely focus on persuading the people of that country," the Hearthstone Witch noted.
"This isn’t something that can be resolved by force."
The Hearthstone Witch began to ponder, "Using a large-scale Bewitching Skill or a Collective Charm Skill to persuade them... No, it would upset the spirit of the republic."
"If it just comes down to debate, it means there’s a possibility we could lose."
"The envoys from the Empire and Alsace are experts in the field of debate; we can’t match them in that arena," she pointed out.
Ivita suddenly revealed a sly smile, "I have already prepared for that."
"We don’t need to engage in debate to win. The world’s best strategy might not necessarily involve intricate schemes; sometimes, it’s enough to simply wait for the right moment."
"First, we will meet with the diplomats sent by Tartax at the Aristocratic Commercial Republic," he concluded.
