Chapter 85: Chapter 81: The Bubble Magic of the Child of Water, Black Friday’s Misfortune Coins, Prophecy Dagger_1
Ivita was originally planning to stop the Old Witch from taking the flame of the Thousand-Year Fire, as they simply had no means or resources to preserve it.
As the Princess stated, preserving the Thousand-Year Fire required an enormous force, the vast wealth brought about by this force, and the substantial resources obtained only by spending this wealth.
This is not something they, in their current state, could achieve.
But it was too late.
An ear-piercing hum resounded as the Sword in Fire vibrated, followed by a ’clunk’, reminiscent of a massive rock shattering the concrete floor. Astoundingly, the Hearthstone Grand Witch had pried the Thousand-Year Fire off the mural with the Sword in Fire.
The bloody-red flame landed on the Sword in Fire. Though it only occupied a tiny point on the tip of the sword, it turned the blade from hilt to tip a blazing red in an instant.
"What the hell! It’s so hot!"
"Even the Sword in Fire can’t withstand this flame’s temperature." The Old Witch, frightened, jolted as her entire right arm caught fire, and the blood-colored fire serpent slithered from her shoulder, burning towards her head and body.
Any other wizard would have perished right there.
Only the quick-reacting Old Witch, who would impulsively abandon anything for self-preservation, managed to survive.
Raising her left hand without hesitation, she chopped down at her right shoulder, severing her entire right arm.
She directly abandoned her hand.
"This was my favorite spare arm!"
The Hearthstone Grand Witch’s head was buzzing.
The arm, flung away by her, flew past Lolita who was sitting on the ground with her head held tightly, eyes shut, thus avoiding the burning limb.
The arm sailed through the air, heading directly towards the pitiful Mummified Witch, bound by Magic Plants by the Old Witch.
The Mummified Witch’s apprentice immediately panicked, wondering just how much unluckier he could be. Was this intentional?!
"Save me..."
"Ahhh... Why can’t I cut this plant!"
He couldn’t hide anymore; he held a delicate bronze dagger in his right hand behind his back, attempting to covertly slice the ancient snake plant.
His plan was probably to cut the snake plant binding him with the bronze dagger while Ivita and the others were preoccupied with the mural on the dome and the Thousand-Year Fire, and then launch a sneak attack on them.
However, he never anticipated that all of the Old Witch’s plant magic required iron to break its spell.
Non-Iron weapons were utterly useless against the Magic Plants cultivated by the Old Witch.
The Hearthstone Grand Witch noticed the inscriptions on the dagger in the hands of the apprentice wizard instantly. Ignoring the flames engulfing the body of the apprentice, she squinted her eyes to study the dagger. "Your Majesty, that seems to be something of the ancient civilization he found in a nearby ruin, because it bears the ancient texts."
"The ancient texts are scattered all over the dagger, front and back. In this era, weapons are rarely designed this way."
"The approximated meaning of the text is..."
"Dedicated to Lord Sunditus who killed the first tyrant, the spirit of the Republic lives on because of you. Even though the successors of the Demon God quickly destroyed our Republican spirit, we believe that, in the infinite stream of time, a new Republican spirit will be reborn somewhere."
The Old Witch twisted her head to see the back of the dagger in the apprentice wizard’s hand. "The Prophet who vowed eternal celibacy in the temple told us that a thousand years later, where wooden city walls surround the sea, the spirit of the Empire’s Republic will be reawakened, and a great Republic will continue our Republican spirit—this is inscribed on the Sunditus Prophecy Bronze Dagger."
The apprentice wizard’s spirit dwindled rapidly in the flames.
Looking at the two old hags before him, he gritted his teeth in rage. They were just studying the dagger while disregarding him who was being burned by the fire!
Amidst the flames, the Magic Plant was not without being burnt and wilted, but the rate at which the plant wilted was far slower than the rate at which the apprentice, who hardly had much spirit left, burnt.
The spirit he had acquired by consuming humans was unbelievably feeble and almost unusable.
If a normal witch consumed such a thing, it would only contaminate his spirit and the structure of his Spirit Knowledge Mist.
It is why witches, in general, would not use Blood Magic to increase their power.
Ivita shot him a glance but disregarded the cries of the apprentice.
Firstly, being the flame of the Thousand-Year Fire, this was not an ordinary flame from Magic. He himself was unable to extinguish it.
Secondly, this guy deserved to be burnt to death, just an evil cannibal witch apprentice.
Additionally, they initially planned to get the knowledge from this wizard’s mind. However, after the Old Witch’s conversation with him, she was clearly greatly disappointed.
There are indeed different grades of Magic.
Ivita could tell that the Old Witch lost interest in this guy, otherwise, she would have subjected him to some brutal torture a long time ago, forcing him to spill everything.
On the contrary, they had discovered the Fire Sacrifice Square of Viscount Ambrose’s Independent Country, the origin of the Thousand-Year Fire, and the unsolved mystery here.
However, they didn’t know how many such Fire Sacrifice Squares were held within the cities and noble parties in the viscount’s nation.
"Your Majesty, look here, this is the special Water Magic of the Children of Water." The Old Witch exclaimed in delight. "I rarely move about in the west, where the Western Witches and Dragon Witches reside, so it’s my first time seeing a member of the Lower Burgundy using special Blood Witchcraft."
