Chapter 822: Chapter 432: Ancient God’s Big Gift Pack

After the Ancient God Toad destroyed the outer city wall, the intensity of the war immediately escalated by several levels, filled with screams, wails, and the clashing of weapons, while the booming of trebuchets assaulting the city and cannons defending the walls thundered in everyone’s ears.

But soon, Ivita realized something was amiss.

The city’s mayor had actually achieved his plan; a sacrificial army composed of prisoners and civilians carrying simple weapons and wearing rudimentary cotton armor was formed. Under the threat of the fully-armed elite troops’ long spears from behind, they had no choice but to charge toward the Ancient God Toad.

Even those who were terrified and attempted to escape were killed by the long spears and archers waiting behind them.

Seeing so many people marching to their deaths, the Ancient God Toad burst into a cruel laugh, its gaze on the iron whips lashing the noble army while it began slaughtering these doomed sacrifices.

The souls of the deceased soared into the air en masse, then transformed into orbs of light and entered the body of the toad.

Ivita narrowed his eyes, glancing at the purple-smoking pot on the city wall.

Such a nuisance.

Having just driven away the Death Wizards from the Ditmarschen Peasant Republic, now there emerged an Ancient God Toad that fed on human souls.

After the Ancient God Toad had consumed a vast number of human souls, it roared furiously at the sky, "Pan God, remember this. Once I break free of the constraints of these foolish lesser beings, I will come for vengeance."

"You dare to provoke me."

Using The Eye of the Demon, Ivita observed that the Ancient God Toad’s body was highly connected to natural energy, its entire form seeming born from this natural force.

’The Ancient Gods are not true gods,’ Ivita thought. "When our ancestors fought against them, they gradually discovered their true nature, losing their worship for them and realizing that instead of being Ancient Gods, they were ancient spirits."

"These spirits must have come into being from nature during the Ambrosian era in the Redwood Sea. They are not deities, hence, they are beings of the material world."

"Yet, it’s not just that; these spirits seem to be entities beyond mere phenomena."

Ivita, with The Eye of the Demon, observed the true essence of the Ancient God Toad.

This being was the antithesis of the King of the Ancient Tomb, and it differed greatly from humans as well.

Phenomenon is the material world, existence is the world of ideals.

Though the spirits aren’t purely conceptual beings, their true form is not what is currently before the eyes of the people. Presumably, the ancestors were able to seal it because they discovered this fact.

Ivita subconsciously swept the Ancient God Toad with his Light Soul, to see if he could further strengthen the seal within it, limiting its power and making it easier for the city factions’ armies to kill it.

But his Super Light Soul had no effect on it whatsoever.

"I see," Ivita realized. "The Light Soul cannot trouble it. The creature itself is an entity beyond phenomena; it can cover itself with its own idealistic power to counter my Light Soul."

"It is an ancient spirit that has existed for thousands of years; even I cannot predict the outcome of a direct confrontation."

If he had a Soul of Darkness, he could bypass its existence and directly target its phenomena.

After all, Ancient Gods are not like the True God, which lacks phenomena and exists solely in reality.

Once the phenomena are altered, the Ancient God would be resealed, and this time the seal would be far more secure, virtually impossible to escape, and it would suffer the greatest injury it had ever experienced.

...

Meanwhile, the Ancient God Toad suddenly felt a chill down its spine—it was the fear and icy dread that comes with the proximity of death.

Although enslaved by the humans and Druids together, it had never considered its own death.

It could gather natural energy incessantly from the natural world, that vast power sufficient to protect the spirit of an ancient being from destruction, thus granting it immortality.

Yet, it still felt as if there were thorns at its back.

’I’m not a True God after all; I can indeed die,’ the Ancient God Toad thought frantically. ’There are quite a few witches and wizards on this battlefield who have tested me, but they amounted to nothing. However, the one who tested me just now, he made me sense the possibility of death. I must find him.’

The Ancient God Toad wanted to turn around and find Ivita, to strike first and eliminate all those on the battlefield who could potentially cause its death.

But the noble soldiers on the wooden platforms on its back brandished their iron whips and lashed it fiercely on its back. The Druids disguised as Lower Burgundians continually chanted strange spells, affecting its mind, forcing it to keep moving forward.

The Ancient God Toad was consumed with fury. "Damn it. How infuriating."

As it passed by the giant Ivita, it instinctively tried to stomp down, "Die, die."

But the giant Ivita exerted his full power with Gravity Magic, pushing the mountain-like Ancient God Toad back a step. He then simply told everyone, ’My magic has run out,’ before leaping off the city wall and returning to the city.

Leaving a host of onlookers dumbstruck.

The Ancient God Toad grew even more irate. ’Another one who can threaten my life now; how come there are so many powerful wizards on this battlefield? Too dangerous. Am I really going to be played to death by these humans this time?’

It steeled itself and charged headfirst into the central wall, immediately creating yet another breach.
