Chapter 760: Chapter 402: The Summoning Ritual of the Sun God and the Knowledge Demon King_1
What Ivita said seemed to fall on deaf ears - at least, of the corpse or the demon within the Iron Maiden. "This is the last layer of the great library," it continued, "You can return anytime."
"If you open this torture device, I can help you."
Ivita ignored the demon’s words and focused on the book in his hands.
The book explained the origins of the Dark Soul.
Legend has it that amongst the earliest human civilizations, the highest level a witch could reach was that of a Superior Witch. These were considered divine beings, supposedly marking the end of magic and standing apart from ordinary wizards and witches...as demigods with Light Souls.
But then, something happened that made people realize that there was more to magic behind the Superior Witch level.
The Light Soul had its limits.
In one ancient civilization, buried by sand over time, a witch attempted to shield her civilization from invasions by other countries. Using her Light Soul, she blessed the king of civilization, creating a unique philosophical worldview within him. It made him unbeatable, immune to failure.
But eventually, the king did fail.
He held that distinguishing between males and females was what separated civilized people from savages. Out of modesty, he refused to bare all before the witch, opting instead to wear a loincloth.
Because of this, the witch’s Light Soul couldn’t permeate his entire body.
Yet, this was not accidental.
This event led the witches and wizards of the time to discover that the witch — who had used her Light Soul to calculate future occurrences — had failed.
It seemed that the Light Soul was...incomplete.
The wizards and witches later discovered the mistake made by the previous witch. The Light Soul’s idealistic nature caused its predictions of the future to become uncertain, so anything was possible, leading to a side effect unique to the Light Soul.
If you used the Light Soul during a divination, and you forcefully enhanced its accuracy, it would lie to you, asserting that there was absolutely no chance of failure.
But this was deception.
The lie was a severe deviation caused by the wizard’s Light Soul which made everything seemingly possible.
And since the Light Soul could not gain experience, knowledge, rationality, or value of existence, it couldn’t create anything unprecedented.
Knowing this, the upcoming witches and wizards began attacking and destroying each other’s Light Souls. This practice, known as "The Triumph of Logic Over Law," dramatically reduced the power and influence of Superior Witches.
They had no choice but to probe further into its magical breakthroughs.
This made the wizards and witches pursue something else separate from the Light Soul — the Dark Soul that could generate rationality, experience, logic, and proof of existence.
In other words, with a Dark Soul, a witch’s divination could make no mistakes.
Upon reading this, Ivita’s left eye twitched. The infinite flames within his left eye concealed the soul of the Lich Lord, a creature of Witch Marquis Level.
If the Witch Marquis’ divination could make no mistakes, then how was she sealed away by him?
Was it because the Witch Marquis was controlled by the Sword of Power, disabling her use of the Dark Soul?
Conversely, though, a wizard possessing both a Light Soul and a Dark Soul wouldlikely attain an exclusive state, almost immune to all harm.
How then does such a wizard differ from a god?
But if one becomes so powerful why does the path to becoming the Witch Queen still exist?
It seemed that the Witch Queens possessed a power far above that of both Light and Dark Souls, but what that power was, he had no idea.
Thinking back on his past experiences, battling the manipulative shadows of the Witch Queen and the residual memories of the Dragon Witch—it was a miracle that he’d survived.
It was a classic case of a novice being ignorant of the dangers ahead.
In light of his current situation, he was struck by the undeniable strength of the Witch Queens - if they were to meet again, he wouldn’t have the courage to challenge them.
Ivita was looking for a way to create a Dark Soul within the book he held.
Unfortunately, the book only told of the origins and concepts of the Dark Soul; nowhere did it explain how to create one.
Next to him, the corpse inside the Iron Maiden was visible. Seeing that Ivita hadn’t paid it any heed, its voice took on a bitter tone.
However, the corpse inside the Iron Maiden changed its target and started a conversation with the female Sect Hierarch of the Sun God Sect.
"You there, witch, you’re a Superior Witch. You possess a Light Soul too. You and that male wizard both entered the core of the library, and I can’t quite tell which of you is the heir."
"Real or fake, who can truly tell? If the real one dies, the fake becomes real."
The female Sect Hierarch of the Sun God Sect had her eyes covered with her hands, and now she used them to cover her ears. But then, she couldn’t shield her eyes, feeling trapped with no way out.
"Don’t talk to me!"
"Don’t talk to me!"
Opening her eyes in surprise, the Sect Hierarch found that the Iron Maiden, which was ten meters away just moments ago, was now right in front of her, only an inch away from her forehead.
Attempting to look for Ivita, she realized that her eyes were locked with those of the demon inside the Iron Maiden.
Its eyes were like a corpse’s - devoid of any color but white.
