Chapter 742: Chapter 393 Guided in the Well_1

The Hearthstone Witch collected a portion of the underground river water of the oasis within a glass bottle.

Guided by the hint from the Black Knight’s leader, Ivita, the Hearthstone Witch, Knight Robinson, and Cap along with others, moved northward. They might have walked about a thousand meters when they encountered a huge knight statue. A knight sword was clutched in its hand, pointing in the direction of the west.

Ivita beckoned and the knight sword in the statue’s hand fell into Ivita’s grasp. Touching the blade, Ivita said, "Inside this sword is a hint of magical power. The desert’s dryness preserved the sword’s integrity for several hundreds of years."

Ivita let go of the sword and it astonishingly flew back into the hand of the knight’s statue.

"A return spell?" Ivita said, "Quite interesting."

Knight Robinson examined their surroundings and addressed Ivita, "My lord, I have heard that in certain isolated places where great constructions have been erected, the builders intentionally create buildings nearby to guide people. These statues are likely the same. Look, another similar statue lies at a distance of 500 meters in the northwest. It could easily be missed because of the distance."

"The direction to which these knight swords in the statue’s hands point, should be the direction of the so-called grand library."

Ivita nodded in affirmation. "It should be so."

"Come along, keep up."

Miss Cap was somewhat frightened. The dauntless cultists from before had left a deep impression on her, and their villainous images still haunted her.

Miss Cap asked the others anxiously, "Are we going to encounter those lunatics again?"

According to Ivita, "We probably will. It appears that they regard the heir to the Iron Crown as a sort of deity. If given the chance, they’ll try to capture you."

Miss Cap turned pale with fright, seeking comfort from the Hearthstone Witch whom she regarded as a good person. "Doctor, it’s really dangerous here."

Her words were a cry for consolation.

Yet, the Hearthstone Witch only smirked and glanced at her indifferently.

She had only feigned amicability before to trick Cap into drinking the cursed water. Now, the Hearthstone Witch saw no worth or reason to pay her any attention.

The group continued to walk for another 500 meters and, sure enough, in the northwest direction they saw another statue. Following the direction that the star in the statue’s hand pointed towards, they saw the third statue at a distance of 500 meters.

"Our previous guess was right, everyone follow along. We go in the direction that the statue points," said Ivita.

After walking the entire afternoon, when they reached the eighth knight statue, there was only a highland ahead and no more knight statues in the desert.

By this time, Cap was almost too tired to walk.

Walking under the punctuating desert sun for an entire afternoon would dehydrate any ordinary person. Only high-level professionals like Ivita and the others would dare to travel in such a manner.

However, among the group, Cap, who was merely an apprentice knight, was the first to falter.

Breathless, Cap implored the others, "How much farther do we have to go? Couldn’t we sit down and rest for a while?"

Knight Robinson suggested to Ivita, "Sir, this seems to be one of the rare windless areas in the desert, and would be suitable to camp for the night."

Ivita shook his head at him and pointed ahead, "It seems there’s a well on the highland ahead."

The Hearthstone Witch took a closer look. "Indeed there’s a well. It’s located on the barren highland with nothing around."

Knight Robinson spoke up, "A well in a place like this? It’s worth exploring. Could it be possible that a massive underground river runs beneath this desert and someone discovered it and dug the well here?"

The group plodded on while a despairing Cap was nearly in tears.

A downcast Miss Cap lamented, "Are you people made of stone? Don’t you feel tired? Can we at least sit down and rest?"

Ivita and the others climbed the desert highland and reached the well to examine it.

Surprisingly, the well was dry.

There wasn’t even moss on the bricks inside the well, which suggested that the well had been dried up for a very long time.

Knight Robinson shared his theory with Ivita, "This could be an old well which dried up because the underground river changed its course."

Ivita stomped his foot, finding a very hard rock-like surface beneath him. This was an odd occurrence in the desert.

That’s because the layer of sand in the desert is usually quite thick; how could one just casually step on a rock surface?

Sensing that something was amiss, Ivita waved his hand and the sand on the ground rolled forward, as if obeying Ivita’s command. This revealed a large statue underneath the moving sand.

It turned out that Ivita had been standing on the head of this statue all along.

Ivita amplified his magic, causing the engulfing sand to automatically move away and expose the entire statue. It was a statue of a goddess cradling the dry well.

The well was an accessory to this goddess statue.

What surprised Ivita even more was that the emblem of the Sun on the goddess statue’s forehead matched the one he had previously encountered from the Sun God Sect.
