Chapter 724: Chapter 385: Three Airs and Two Bitterness, Book of Death Magic_1
Ivita looked perplexed. The underlying message of this letter was that the Lombardy Duchy itself didn’t know who it was, and was now calling out to all those who had the right to inherit the Iron Crown. This could potentially have been done through the Iron Crown law.
Ivita asked Wilson. "What was the situation when you received this letter?"
Wilson pondered for a moment, replying, "A man in a black cloak delivered it... yes, he had no signs of life about him. By the time I tried to call out to him, he had vanished into the forest, leaving behind an indescribable, rotten smell."
"Now that I think about it, he probably wasn’t human."
Ivita turned to the Hearthstone Witch, who pulled out a Magic Book. The book flipped its pages automatically, eventually stopping at a rag-clad man’s image. The man was hunched over, appearing severely deformed as though he had a shell on his back. He was hobbling through the forest with the help of a cane.
The Hearthstone Witch glanced at it and determined, "It’s a Ruster, an undead."
Ivita looked at her quizzically. "What is that?"
The Hearthstone Witch elaborated, "Legend has it that beneath the Iron Crown, many walking corpses have defied their allegiance to the family who owns the Iron Crown. These bodies are neither alive nor dead, but puppets wandering the earth, unable to rest. Among these puppets, some were the most potent mortals during their lifetime, becoming the Iron Crown’s most powerful tool after death."
"Such entities are referred to as the Rusters."
The Hearthstone Witch looked at Ivita. "Probably one of your ancestral aunts was married into the Lombardy family, or one of your forefathers had married their princess. Either way, you might be one of the thousands of inheritors. Your inheritance order is probably not high, at least not within the top few hundred."
"But due to the recent upheaval of the Iron Crown..."
"You now have a claim on that duchy."
Claim?
Ivita said, "There must be severe issues in that country for them to urgently call on all inheritors to return. It might be a lucrative land, but likely to be scrutinized by thousands of people. Entering an unfamiliar land under murky circumstances will put me at a disadvantage..."
After contemplating for a while, Ivita addressed Wilson: "Wilson, you are now a third-generation vampire, the most senior vampire below the second-generation ruler. The Lombardy Duchy is currently struggling with the undead. Take two capable assistants and go to the Lombardy Duchy, then come back and update me on the situation there."
"You have two tasks. Firstly, confirm the situation there to see if it as described in the letter sent by the Ruster."
"Secondly, assess the status of the inheritors there."
Wilson understood that Ivita had entrusted him with this important task because he trusted him.
Wilsons knelt on one knee, placing his right hand on his chest. "I will certainly create the conditions for our master to take over the Duchy!"
The Hearthstone Witch advised Ivita, "But before that, you better use your light soul to shine upon Wilson."
Both Ivita and Wilson stared at the Hearthstone Witch in confusion.
The witch explained, "The control issues with the Iron Crown are probably not that simple. Entering the Lombardy Duchy is equivalent to coming under the rule of the Iron Crown Law. You’d better use your light soul to stabilize Mr. Wilson’s condition. Otherwise, I’m afraid he could be manipulated or trapped as soon as he enters the Duchy. Honestly, I think the country is now the most dangerous place in the world."
Ivita nodded and began to shine his light soul onto Wilson.
Because Wilson wore the Light Elemental Flower, he could walk in the sunlight without fearing its rays.
After all this was done, Ivita dismissed everyone from the administrative hall’s study and started pondering. Truth be told, the situation at Cross Island wasn’t simple either.
He was not just a regular Great Governor, but the ruler of Cross Island, governing eighteen Earl’s territories.
Ever since the feudal system of Cross Island was stripped and destroyed by a group of even more barbaric pirates, the Island had never been wholly under the control of any ruler, until Ivita arrived.
With the [Book of Death] in hand, Ivita contemplated, ’Just one Cross Island already holds many secrets. If I could secure more territory, I would be able to uncover even more secrets.’
He opened the [Book of Death], as he possessed a light soul, and he could automatically understand complex knowledge, as if he always carried thousands of keys with him, so he could use the corresponding key to match the lock at any time.
As a result, he could swiftly comprehend the curse and magic array diagrams in the [Book of Death].
While flipping through the magic book, Ivita used his finger to trace intricate patterns on the table. As he chanted a bizarre spell, the entire table suddenly caught black flames.
The table crackled and popped.
A terrifying sense of foreboding radiated from him, spreading throughout the city and reaching the pirates on the outskirts.
In an instant, everyone in the city felt a sense of unease, but they couldn’t pinpoint its cause. They decided to dismiss it from their minds and forget about it.
