Chapter 421: Chapter 257: The Opportunity to Control the Laws and the Three City-States of the Ancient World_1

Ivita asked curiously, "What have you found?"

The Hearthstone Witch replied, "Actually, this matter isn’t complicated at all. If you understand a bit of the mystic books, you would find that the myths told by the natives here are completely wrong."

"Leo is a common name of people from an Ancient World city-state called ’Laxi Dreamer’. This name, with the passage of time, has come to possess magical power and is included in many spells."

"Besides, we previously discovered a magic book from the Ancient World in that inverted pyramid building. Hence, it can be speculated that these tribal natives met their so-called God Leo, a visitor like us, who journeyed on a ship to this island from a distant place in a very far-off period."

"So, that Leo should probably be from the Ancient World."

Vampire Wilson’s eyes lit up. "The Ancient World was comprised of city-states. The most famous ones were the Laxi Dreamer City, Attica City, and Tebai City."

"So that Leo was a sea traveler from Laxi Dreamer City, who likely saw the natives’ plight on the island and helped them drive away the evil spirit."

"Believing him to be a god, the natives worshipped him, feared him, and created a substitute for Leo based on his appearance and strength."

Ivita keenly perceived some problems with this and the myth told by the natives.

"Since we could obtain the magic book from the Ancient world in this inverted pyramid building, it suggests that—what was sealed in there wasn’t the evil spirit but probably the substitute created by the natives imitating the sea traveler from the Ancient World, Laxi Dreamer City. It was sealed inside."

"But based on the seal on the natives’ imitation, it suggests that the present Black Granny worshipped by the tribes must be the evil spirit."

Everyone shivered.

Everything was clear now.

Ivita looked at the natives who were continuously worshipping and bowing to them, much like their ancestors worshiped and bowed to the sea traveler from the Ancient World over a thousand years ago.

Ivita said, "So, more than a thousand years ago, a professional named Leo from the Ancient World passed by this island and helped the indigenous people of the island to drive away the evil spirit, Black Granny."

"Then, out of gratitude, the natives copied and created a similar entity to Leo."

"However, later on, for some unknown reason, this entity similar to Leo was sealed by the ancestors of these natives. Hence, the previously mentioned guardian stones, and earth spirit stone dolls were all set up by the ancestors of these natives. It’s quite clear that their ancestors had some magic abilities."

The Hearthstone Witch added, "Those magic abilities were possibly taught to their ancestors by Leo, but with the passage of time, the present natives have lost these abilities."

Ivita said, "Then, later on, the driven off evil spirit, Black Granny, seeing the change in the situation, returned and started dominating this island. Ah, the tribe member who died earlier, was most probably killed by it."

"Since the tribal inhabitants still possessed the guardian stones created by their ancestors, it could not directly kill those inhabitants."

"Hence, Black Granny could only initially pretend to be the natives’ god."

Ivita said to the others, "It is all clear now."

The Hearthstone Witch said, "There is another way to test our hypothesis. The natives’ myths mentioned that the evil spirit would make people unable to survive. According to my experience, it probably means..."

The Old Witch told Wilson, "Ask them how old they can live up to."

Wilson translated this question to the natives. The elderly tribal leader immediately answered.

Wilson said in astonishment, "He told me that they only live up to twenty years at most. He himself is nineteen."

Wilson’s words startled everyone.

The Hearthstone Witch said to Ivita, "I knew it. I was suspicious earlier."

"It’s that so-called ’Black Granny’ evil spirit. It has been absorbing the life of these natives, accelerating their aging. Due to the long-term oppression, the natives believe that the lifespan of humans can only be twenty years at most and they misinterpret their accelerated aging as normal."

"I have seen something in the library of Hearthstone Castle before. They are neither dead nor alive, but negative spirit energy beings like the Hair Monster you saw in the temple cemetery before."

"These beings are spawned due to the long-term offering and blood sacrifice of inanimate items by people, gaining intelligence. But due to the blood sacrifices and filthy desires of humans, they become extremely evil, enjoying the hunt of human life. Before the Church appeared, such an evil god was ubiquitous, but is rare now."

"I suspect Black Granny is such an evil god."

The Hearthstone Witch explained to Ivita, "The faith of more primitive human civilizations is often quite destructive, because their envy often led them to wish ill luck on their rich friends today, and poverty on their affluent neighbors tomorrow. These malicious desires gave ordinary objects a sinister intelligence."

Ivita nodded. "So the Black Granny on this island is not really our concern. On the contrary, if we destroy this building, we could achieve our goal for this trip."

Ivita looked at a group of primitive inhabitants who were worshipping him on the ground.

The cultural gap between them was too vast, making it hard for him to muster any sympathy for them. This caused Ivita to ponder whether he should disregard their safety and simply take the treasure from the pyramid-shaped building by force.

The native inhabitants kept speaking in a language that Ivita did not understand.

Ivita asked Wilson, "What are they saying?"

Vampire Wilson hesitated for a moment, then told Ivita, "They are saying some unrealistic stuff."

"They are asking if you would consent to ruling their tribal alliance and this island, to rule over all the humans here."

Hearing these words, the warriors and hunters all broke into hearty laughter.

The idea of the primitive inhabitants asking Lord Ivita to rule them was simply laughable.

Who would want to rule them?

Wilson spread his hands and added, "They also request that you take over their laws."

Ivita and the Hearthstone Witch’s expressions changed.

Unlike the still clueless crowd and Wilson, Ivita and the Hearthstone Witch immediately recognized another issue.

Ivita said to the Hearthstone Witch, "Perhaps Leo didn’t pass by this island coincidentally, but because he needed something that’s on this island."

The Hearthstone Witch expressed her incredulity, "But it’s the Seven Seas Law Code that rules this ocean!"

"There can’t possibly be a second law here."

Ivita started pondering, "The Seven Seas Law Code rules over this vast sea, and there’s also a legend saying that Marco Anson’s law is grafted onto another law."

"But if that’s the case, we can’t simply take the treasure and leave. Since we have the chance to acquire a law, even if this law only applies to a small island, we should seize this opportunity."

Ivita told Wilson, "Ask them if they are willing to follow me and destroy their Blackwood God."

Wilson hesitated for a moment before translating Ivita’s statement to the inhabitants.

Immediately, the kneeling red-skinned inhabitants became agitated.

This was their Blackwood God that they had worshipped for thousands of years.

How could they commit such blasphemy?

Vampire Wilson elegantly saluted Ivita. "My Lord, I don’t think they would betray that evil spirit. The evil spirit’s brainwashing of them is too severe."

Facing the enraged inhabitants, Ivita continued calmly, "Tell them, I...am more powerful than the Blackwood God. If they believe in me, I can make sure each one of them lives until they’re forty or fifty years old, and possibly even up to a hundred years old in the future."

The expression on Vampire Wilson’s face crumbled.

Isn’t that the normal human lifespan?

Wilson translated Ivita’s words to the inhabitants, and all of a sudden, the still angry inhabitants halted their overtly aggressive actions. Afterward, they knelt motionlessly on the ground one by one, hesitation evident on their faces.

Two minutes later, Wilson translated the words of an old inhabitant to Ivita. "My Lord, they said they want to change their beliefs."

"They’re ready to side with you and kill the Blackwood evil spirit. Um, they did use the term ’evil spirit’."
