Chapter 383: Chapter 236: Treasure Ship, Gold and Silver Island, and the Strange Skeleton_1
After briefly parting ways with Tartax, Ivita paid some ship owners and set foot on the shore of Lahaina Town.
For 2 pennies, Ivita learned from a local child where the sailors and captains were most likely to frequent the nearest tavern.
The child stared at Ivita and said, "Sir, do you need me to lead the way? It would only cost 2 more pennies."
Ivita shook his head and waved his hand in rejection, saying, "You’ve already given me the general direction."
"So I don’t need you to lead the way."
Having said that, he departed with his five warriors, two knights, two vampires, a carpenter, and a chef, leaving behind the dumbstruck child.
The child probably never imagined that someone would try to save even 2 pennies.
Leading his group down two streets flooded with stalls selling local snacks, beer, and wine, Ivita looked at the harbor filled with ships about thirty meters away and couldn’t help but suspect that these vendors specifically targeted newly-landed sailors.
In addition to the ships, several dried-up corpses were hanging from wooden scaffoldings around the harbor, all donned in pirate hats and garments. Each gallows the pirates were hung on also bore a warning sign reading "No Pirates Allowed.".
Of course, being a coastal town, Lahaina Town probably often dealt with pirates.
What is noteworthy is that among these hanged corpses, Ivita saw a peculiar one with a fish’s tail but human skeletal structure.
It seemed to be some kind of half-human, half-fish creature.
After taking a few extra glances, Ivita caught up with his group.
At the end of the street, he saw a group of furtive people pushing a cart that accidentally collided with a middle-aged man with a big belly. The cart immediately toppled over. Bags fell off the cart, and to everyone’s surprise, they were brimming with gold coins.
Seeing this, the group immediately gave everyone who had noticed a fierce look, quickly picked up the cart, and ran off.
The Hearthstone Witch turned to Ivita, "Shall we stop them and take the gold? Their source seems illegitimate, they may not dare to sue us!"
Upon hearing this, the warriors actually tightened their grips on their weapons, looking at Ivita with an eager expression.
Even the two knights from the Persopolis Family were the same.
Wilson looked at Ivita.
Ivita shook his head."Let’s not complicate things. Such a large bag of gold must have a boss behind it. We are here to recruit captains and sailors."
The Hearthstone Witch showed a look of regret. Every few steps, she would look back at the bag of gold on the cart.
They soon arrived at the door of the tavern, which bore a wooden sign - the Platinum Star Tavern.
The tavern’s door was wide open, and inside were many sailors drinking. It seemed that the tavern also offered some sketchy services, as scantily clad women were always clinging to the sailors, apparently trying to wring all the profits from their sea voyages.
The presence of Ivita with a dozen people, of course, drew the attention of everyone in the tavern.
The landlady of the tavern was a blond woman with fair skin. She looked at Ivita and his companions curiously, trying to figure out who was in charge.
Ivita stepped forward from the crowd and stood in front of her. The landlady immediately put on a professional smile and said, "Welcome to my Platinum Star, do you want some soul-soothing rum, or soul-cleansing beer?"
"Our speciality here is whole roast chicken, which costs 1 shilling and 6 pence."
She purposely held out the plate of roast chicken in front of Ivita and her company as she went to serve a bald-headed captain, allowing them to savor the delicious aroma.
A warrior named Turner, who was sat next to Ivita, let out a hungry grumble from his stomach, immediately covering it in embarrassment.
Ivita glanced at him, then said to the innkeeper, "You have succeeded, my lad is hungry."
"We’ll have a roast chicken and a bottle of rum each."
Ivita knew why beer and rum were popular here—it was first due to their origins, as both were made from cereals, which were easy to obtain—and second, because rum could keep for several months, making it a favorite with sailors and pirates.
The innkeeper smiled indulgingly. "Very well, sir, I appreciate your audacity, which far surpasses these poor sailors over there. Is there anything else you need?"
Ivita casually tossed her a pound of gold and waited for her change.
Ivita said, "I need to set sail. I’m looking for reliable captains and sailors, who must have extensive navigation experience. They don’t need to be professional, but they must have certain courage."
Ivita’s words attracted the attention of the sailors and captains in the tavern.
These people were looking for their next employer.
The tavern owner placed jars of rum on the wooden bar, then asked Ivita, "If you don’t mind me asking, what goods are you transporting, what route are you taking, and what type of ship are you sailing?"
"Different captains are proficient in different routes, and some are good at navigating heavy Garen ships, while others specialty lies in trade ships."
"And some are particularly skilled at sailing treasure ships."
When the tavern owner mentioned the treasure ship, both the sailors and the captains fell silent.
Ivita heard an elderly captain pour himself a shot of rum and say to his mariners, "Ah, the treasure ship, I was a boatswain on one when I was young, but one morning I got drunk and missed the sail time so they left me ashore. The crew never got in touch with me after that."
"Captains from the Republic of Belisarius discovered unexplored islands far away from the Mediterranean on the west side, where they planted sugar cane, and some even found Gold and Silver Island, which was full of gold."
"Countless gold was transported to the Republic of Belisarius by one treasure ship after another."
"Those were the best days of my life, just like a dream."
Ivita glanced at the tavern owner. "We should be sailing a two-masted caravel ship."
Upon hearing this, the captains knew that it was a medium-sized ship capable of carrying a fair amount of cargo.
Several captains were already calling out to Ivita, ’Come find me, I have a whole crew of sailors.’ and ’I have the best reputation in this tavern, pick me!’
Ivita continued speaking to the innkeeper, "We’re not delivering goods - we’re going to a place. But getting there is difficult, so we need experienced captains who are not too faint-hearted, lest they jeopardize my mission."
"We’re going to ... Cross Island."
In a split moment, it seemed as if everyone in the tavern had their throat squeezed, not a sound was made.
There was complete silence.
