Chapter 379: Chapter 234: Monastery Law, Exorcism Failure, and an Extra Demon Following_2
Ivita turned her head to see Wilson in low spirits, while Davina struggled with discomfort. She went to the river to get a drink of water, but spit it out immediately.
Clutching her mouth in discomfort, Davina said to the onlookers, "The water here smells so bad."
Everyone looked at her in surprise.
The hunter named Carter had filled his water bag with river water and was surprised by Davina’s behavior. "Not at all," he said to her, "I think the water here is sweet. It’s the best water I’ve ever tasted in my life."
The rest of the warriors and hunters agreed.
The female ranger leaned her upper body out of the boat and sniffed the river’s surface. The next moment, she happily scooped a handful of water from the river to drink and said to the people, "It’s so sweet and refreshing."
Davina looked confused, "Am I the only one who thinks this water smells like a garbage dump?"
Ivita also took a sip of the river water, then looked at Davina in surprise. The river water tasted even better than the purified bottled water from his past life.
The Hearthstone Witch explained the reality. "It’s the rules of the monastery. Ravenna is famous for its wine production. All the water here, from the rivers to the underground rivers, are special."
"Evildoers can’t stand the water here. To them, it smells worse than water from a sewer."
"The Church and the people of this country, Ravenna, are not only unique to the Theocratic Republic but also belong to the Nation of Thousands of Churches, the Nation of Thousands of Monasteries. Look at the monasteries we see on both sides of the river."
"Damn it, when can we get out of this hellhole!!!"
"I am going crazy here! I am not normal anymore!!!"
Everyone on the boat was surprised at the Old Witch’s words. They wanted to stay a little longer on this land, but the Hearthstone Witch was eager to leave.
This was a bit unsociable.
Ivita nodded, observing the scenery on both sides of the river. This trip really was enlightening for him.
Ivita asked, "Is this a kingdom-level or a duchy-level power?"
Tartax lowered his head, "It’s a Duchy."
"[The Church and the People of Ravenna] is under the influence of the Papal Country. Of course, this country maintains a strong independence."
"They never do anything that could potentially harm the interests of the people of Ravenna."
"Overall, this is a wine-focused and peaceful country. The Church in Ravenna is even more withdrawn from the world than the Church in the heart of the papal country, it’s more like a full-fledged, wholly benevolent church should be."
Soon, Ivita saw the monasteries along the river. The architectural styles were not uniform. Some preferred domes, which seemed atmospheric, while others preferred pointed roofs, which seemed taller.
The overall color, however, was all built with cream-white marble.
Ivita guessed that this country must consume a lot of marble.
Ivita asked Tartax, the Old Witch, and Wilson, the three most learned people on his boat, "I’ve seen the embodiment of Iron Crown Law, but what is the embodiment of Monastery Law, and what are its characteristics?"
The three looked at each other.
Tartax spoke first because he was in the best mental state. The Hearthstone Witch and Wilson were on the verge of unbearable discomfort.
"You’ve already seen the characteristics of the Monastery Law, sir."
"This land and water repel the wicked. It’s not about the land and water themselves, but the people who enjoy them. As for its embodiment, I’ve heard stories from the Ravenna Church."
"Legend has it, a thousand years ago, the Saint Heir handed a vial of his own Holy Blood to the church here to suppress the evil spirits once rampant on this land, from which the laws here were formed."
Vampire Wilson replied, "The version I heard is quite different. We heard that the law here originally had the power to purify water. After the church arrived here, they manipulated the minds of the people and the law here, turning it into today’s Monastery Law."
The Hearthstone Witch, forcefully suppressing her nausea, said, "My teacher once told me there are many demons sealed beneath the land of Ravenna. Due to the special effects of the laws here, the Church often seals the demons they capture in the churches and monasteries here."
"So, I believe the legend of the Holy Blood could be true, and the fact that laws existed here before the Church arrived could also be true."
"Anyway, the monasteries here are adept at dealing with demons."
Ivita’s eyes lit up. It so happens that he needs to deal with "Our" demon right now.
Right now, he can utilize the monasteries here to deal with it.
Ivita looked at the quickly darkening sky and said, "Let’s find a place to dock the boat. We can go ashore to buy some Ravenna wine water as supplies."
Everyone on the boat was excited, with warriors and carpenters even jumping up in joy.
Meanwhile, the Hearthstone Witch and the two vampires showed their unhappy faces.
